Starbound: Big Ape. It is literally just a giant holographic face. The only way to defeat it is take out all the projectors. Also it's best to have the blink dash and distortion sphere techs for this. Its a bullet hell. Best get a grappling hook just to make sure.

There was one boss in an indie game called "Comic Jumper" where it was set in a manga and you fought a giant kids face with a bowl cut that sneezed all over you. I mean the whole level was pretty weird to be honest what with the talking unicorn and the countless innuendos, but the boss fight was still pretty bizarre.

I'm so excited to see NARC on here! That's such a throwback to my childhood! They had the game cabinet of that at one of the more popular local after school/youth camp centers in my neighborhood and I used to be so happy bc hardly anyone played it since they'd all rather be in the gym or one of the art rooms so I could usually get on right away and play as long as I liked AND it was unlimited play so you never needed coins! That final boss fight was so gross with all those tongues writhing around licking at you and that second form as the skull was actually really hard. The whole game was so fun and hilarious but "educational" since it was about NOT using drugs but the boss fights were definitely the most memorable. Hooray!

DUDE THAT'S WHAT I WAS THINKING! Though to be fair, considering the floating face form is at the end of the game and you have to have fought the infamously difficult spider form twice already to see it, I could forgive people for not knowing that. That makes me want a new ZAMN Game more. We need more boss fights with Dr Tongue. Like the first boss could just be a basic mirror match where he pulls out a science gun and starts running and gunning like Zeke/Julie, the second boss could be a malformed half-spider transformation like the first boss fight with Dr Birkin in RE2, the third fight could be more of a full on spider form, and the fourth one could be the giant head with a second form melting into an Andross-style brain fight.
If you didn't include Star Fox, I would've been a tad upset. In Doom you didn't fight a giant face, you fought John Romero's head. On a stick! That still technically counts for this list still, doesn't it?

You missed Olmec from Spelunky ! To be honnest Spelunky is so difficult that most player never played long enough to find out that the final boss is a giant invincible golden face that tries to squach you on the ground.
Olmec isn't even the final boss, the game does a Binding of Isaac once you're good enough there's more to do past the 'last boss' which includes MORE bosses. I think the actual final boss of Spelunky is called Yama or something

Dynamite Headdy and Ecco the Dolphin... two of my favourite games of all time in one Outside Xtra video? Hell yes! The Twin Freaks boss in the former was also two big faces in one, known as "Funny Angry" in the Japanese port. And that was easily the most difficult boss in the game.

Testing it on co-workers would normally be a huge OSHA violation, but it's okay, because "Luke" is also actually a virtual biological weapon testbed created by Jane for studying the effects of "Ellen." In fact, the only other character who's "real" in this video is Mike*.

Apart from the Dears/Decorations and Iustitia which are heads (or a mess of heads with tentacles) nothing else is 'basically just a head'. Maybe Fortitudo, it's a dragon with a huge upside head body with legs, wings and two dragon heads for arms so I dunno if it counts.
Honorable mention to the bosses at the end of the first stage of Smash TV1- granted they're just a torso on tank treads but hey- close enough?

Man, I remember playing Dynamite Headdy as a kid and reaching that boss and getting destroyed. Genuinely demoralising.

Dynamite Headdy and Ecco the Dolphin... two of my favourite games of all time in one Outside Xtra video? Hell yes! The Twin Freaks boss in the former was also two big faces in one, known as "Funny Angry" in the Japanese port. And that was easily the most difficult boss in the game.
