    I noticed something really saddening about Romani and Cremia. In universe, Chateau Romani is essentially the Zelda equivalent of alcohol, since it's referenced as only being for adults. Cremia lets Romani have some on the final night. She's getting Romani drunk so she won't notice the moon; so she can at least be happy for one last night. Cremia also wanted Romani to sleep with her in her bed so they could be close, since she knows the world is ending.
    I can just imagine a crying Cremia tightly clutching Romani as the moon comes crashing down.

      i didn't realize the milk was alcohol at the time when i played but i vividly remember reading the "sleep in my bed tonight, ok?" line and it hit me. i just stood there in shock for a minute. that was what really made me realize just how depressing the whole situation was. and then realizing way later the milk is supposed to be alcohol... it just made that scene so much worse

    Okay, I'm sorry, but I'm going to start removing any comments that mention the ridiculous "Link is dead" theory. Hyrule Historia confirmed it isn't true, and as far as I'm concerned, that automatically means it isn't worth talking about or discussing further. There was once a time where you couldn't talk about this game without someone bringing up Ben Drowned, but now the theory has managed to replace it, and I'm fed up with it.

    Around this part of the video, is a part of the game i will never forget. Cremia hears about Clock Town's evacuation but she knows the moon crashing means all of Termina will be destroyed and there's nowhere anyone can go to survive. She knows she and Romani are going to die.
    The we go here: 30:42
    Cremia is letting Romani drink Chateau Romani despite being under aged. Romani is as happy as ever while Cremia is...Not so much. Romani naturally asks why she's letting her drink the Chateau, to which Cremia claims that she's letting Romani drink the Chateau because she "acknowledges Romani's maturity". Then she asks Romani to sleep in her bed with her.
    Before, i didn't think much of this part. Just another scene with people trying to cope with the moon crashing into Termina. But one day, i realized Chateau Romani was the Zelda equivalent of alcohol. Then...It hit me. Cremia knows they're going to die, so she lets Romani drink the Chateau to null her senses. She lets her little sister get drunk so that she'll be blissfully unaware of the end of the world. I can only imagine Cremia holding her little sister while she gurgles in a drunken daze until the final moment.

    Majora's mask scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. The whole "Impending Doom" theme scared me already but literally EVERYTHING about the game is terrifying. It's depressing, dark, pretty much a living nightmare. The child in Ikana valley (idk her name) well, her story really got to me cause I lost my dad when I was a little kid. This game is downright terrifying.

    I suppose the dark and dramatic tone with the two N64 Zeldas is evident from the start, almost- for how much Nintendo and the N64 are often derided as "kiddy", it's interesting to see how even with technology progressing, both of them still work very well even today.
    I mean on the one hand, you have _Ocarina of Time_, which begins with Link having vivid nightmares of future events, and the death of what is essentially his father figure at the end of the first dungeon. Then on the other hand, you have _Majora's Mask_- which begins with Link getting mugged, cursed into the form of a Deku Scrub, and being told the World will end in three days.

    Man, I have to say I love how susceptible and aware you are of ominous feelings. They fuel your videos with a very special take on these games. Love it.
    I finished Majora's Mask when I was 12 years old (when it released) and I while not as agravating as the fear effect this game had on you, I just felt the disgust of this bizarre town and theme. The feeling that nothing will be normal and healthy until I got out of that world, even if I had succeeded in stopping the moon. The game showed me too many sad people with realistic problems, and I just wanted to have some normal fun.
    Anyway, enough of this ranting. Keep it up, your take on games got my attention.

    Isn't it kinda cool that Ocarina of Time Hyrule is medieval, most likely 1400's, since they still have a monarchy and are pretty limited technologically, while Termina is similar to the late 1800's, since there are working clocks, motorboats, and a democratically elected mayor? I always thought that was cool detailing on Nintendo's part. Even Great Bay Temple seems like a water treatment plant, with working pipes and water pumps.

    The worst part about OOT link is that only a few people genuinely care for him. Wind waker Link actually had a family who helped him, OOT Link for the most part had no one who cared for him (no Navi doesn't count).
    In the 3DS version of OOT, the death animation for Link was changed where it no longer has a subtle look of him trying to stay strong but failing, which honestly is more depressing.

    • @whoisthisgit

      That's partially what makes me feel so sad for him, and the fact his mother died when he was just a baby. God, I can feel tears welling up in my eyes just thinking about it, no joke. But he's not alone, he's got me.

      I love the Hero of Time.
      He does have friends, had to be friends with Malon and possibly Talon to get his hands on Epona. He's friends with Zelda who gave him the ocarina of time, his childhood friend Saria, most of the rest of the Kokiri. (Except Mido, but he's a jerk to everyone in the village...except Saria.) The Owl everyone find’s practically annoying. And more people he's met and possibly helped out on his travels. So he's not completely alone.

    • @DarkMirria1
      @DarkMirria1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Ah, the death animations... I'm quite familiar with them. Out of curiosity though.
      I don't know, I was a weird kid, still sorta. I used to make Link die purposely in many different ways and in different situations just to see what happens. I still sorta do it. I wanted to see how many death animations they made.
      A couple of my favourites are the drowning one and when your struck by electricity.
      ...I'm strange. I just like little details like that. Even the animations Link does when just standing still in different locations or when riding Epona. His sneezing is cute.
      Which particular death animation were you referring to?? I've played both versions of OoT and they are practically the same.

      Redeads I find to be quite silly. Yes, the thought of them being reanimated Hylian corpses is unsettling, but I find them to be funny. The one Zelda enemy that scares me are Wallmasters. Their attack in the 3D games where they fall from the ceiling is flat-out horrifying. I also think their concept is creepy alongside with Floormasters, who don't bother me in terms of attack. I find them to be disembodied Goron hands, which is why you can't break loose from their grip. Heck, you can even see their inner parts in the hole on the top! That proves they're disembodied.

    About the four giants being Skull Kid's friends as well as the legend behind Majora's Mask, the manga for the game expands on both plot points and gives more details about them (I think Hyrule Historia also talks about them as well). Plus, Majora's Mask happens several months after Ocarina of Time, giving Zelda and Link enough time to get to know each other which soon leads to Zelda entrusting the Ocarina to Link before he leaves to search for Navi.

      It really isn't. I keep wondering how old "Adult" link is, cause every character treats him like a child even in adult form, despite not otherwise recognizing him as the same child as years ago (except for the sages later on). He looks to be around 20, but that would imply young link is just a teenager...though 13 is about right for how he looks in Majoras Mask.

      That would make sense. I think calling him "Teen" link wouldn't have the same connotation even if he was 18 (after all, some cultures, you're an adult at 15, and it seems like Link's culture is kind of like that, hence Wind Waker).

    When you think about even the good future timeline where Link does defeat Ganon which is the normal adult timeline is kind of screwed in a way because Ganon breaks free from the seal which causes Hyrule to be flooded and become the Great Sea wiping all traces of the old kingdom away. The Hyrule you see in Spirit Tracks is not even the true Hyrule. It's a new kingdom that was established and founded by Wind Waker's incarnation of Zelda and it was named after the fallen kingdom being known as New Hyrule. The real Hyrule is dead and gone. Washed away and in ruin forever beneath the waves. Kind of sad really.

      Destroying Old Hyrule was a necessary evil. Kind Daphnes refused to let go of the past, and what remained of the Great Sea?
      To quote Ganondorf:
      *"So many pathetic creatures, scattered across a handful of islands, drifting on this sea like fallen leaves on a forgotten pool... What they can possibly hope to achieve? Don't you see? All of you... Your gods destroyed you!"*
      Even Ganondorf agrees that flooding Hyrule was a mistake.
      Even though Old Hyrule was destroyed, the past was finally left behind and it allowed a new generation to take over by the time that Spirit Tracks took place.

    • @whoisthisgit
      @whoisthisgit  10 ปีที่แล้ว +77

      She isn't as bad, though I find her a bit overrated. The main thing that annoys me about Tatl is that almost all her enemy descriptions begin with, "What do you mean you don't know about ____?" I know about them, I just want to find out what you say about them, you pointlessly rude little bitch.

    • @MarioMastar
      @MarioMastar 10 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      It makes perfect sense that people would hate Tatl way more than Midna. Tatl is condescending to you because she simply is a bully who doesn't like you from the start. For Midna, it's not really YOU that she's being condescending towards, but it's just her nature to be dark and overconfidenct, as she's the princess of the Twilight realm, a realm where darkness reigns and light is rare. She's never actually mean to Link though, nor does she abuse him like Tatl does.
      I compare the two to a trainer, versus a critic.
      Midna's like a trainer, stating, "Come on. I know you're stronger than this. Keep trying."
      Tatl's more like an critic: "Come on! You can't even do this? Gosh you're so weak!"
      One of them encourages Link to keep going even if he doesn't think he can, while the other insults Link and demeans him when he's otehrwise forced to do it anyway. Even if both are harsh, Midna wants you to succeed, while Tatl insults you preemptively for not succeeding, and what do you have to prove to Tatl? Link didn't even want her, but she scold him for leaving her behind, but Midna is the only one other than Zelda who knows what's going on, and she knows that you're one of few who has the power to stop it. Hence Midna's an all around more likeable character. Link NEEDS Midna, Link DOESN'T need Tatl. So why is Tatl so rude?

      I wish Tael was Link's fairy in this game. From the little you see of him, he seems a bit more reasonable than Tatl and his dark purple color is awesome.
      My favourite partner in the series is either the King of Red Lions/King Hyrule from Wind Waker, (He's badass) or Zelda herself in Spirit Tracks. Tatl is my least favourite personality-wise, but Fi is definitely the most irritating when it comes to giving Link/the player advice. (I do like her voice, though)

And afterwards, the whole world probably doesn't know it was him who saved them, just the ones he shared the adventure with.

    A note 'bout MM ending: The happy ending montage is not explicit enough for the merged reality theory involving your last cycle. These endings could perfectly be just for us as witnesses of all those problems solved in parallel realities and not for Link. In other words of all the different cut scenes shown the only valid are the ones which you solved as part of the last cycle being them Anju/Kafei quest or if you jumped straight into the Final Hours via Song of the Double Time.
    A proof of this theory is both of Milk Bar's ending scenes. In the first one we see Zora Link playing with the band. In the second one THERE IS NO LINK. So in ONE of the possible endings Link left Termina right before defeating Majora's Mask. And in the other he stayed just for the performance.

    The most depressing thing about Majora's Mask is that, based on what happens in Ocarina of Time, all of the bad endings in this game happened. Remember, Link is the only thing in Major's Mask that is actively trying to save Termina, and in the time line where link didn't stop Ganondorf's rise to power, regardless if Link died in the final fight with him or not, at that point Termina is gone!
    So yeah there are two time lines where Termina is gone. One where Link is killed by Ganondorf and Ganondorf is sealed by the sages (somehow) and no one knows (let alone cares) that Termina is destroyed, and one where Link stops Ganondorf and then Ganondorf is sealed by the sages and still no one knows (or cares) that Termina is destroyed! I don't expect them to know of Termina's existence, after all Termina was found by Skullkid by either luck/accident, or maybe fate led him to Termina in the time line where Ganondorf's rise to power didn't happen, thus with no immediate threat to Hyrule, fate (or whatever great will) led Skullkid to Termina just to make someone from outside of Termina aware of it's existance and possibly used Skullkid as an unaware tool to bring someone (or just Link) to fix the problem and Link followed Skullkid to Termina not knowing it existed in the first place.
    I mean, heck, that is why someone (don't remember who but I think it was the Mask salesmen) in the Majora's Mask says Termina is fated to be destroyed.
    Oh man! I didn't mean to make this long, but after I wrote the previous sentence, I looked over what I wrote and I started to think I might want to clarify some things or write down an idea that just came to me. I am just going to wrap this up and stop typing before I write another long paragraph over explaining about my thought process.
    Jesus Christ! I almost made another long paragraph just trying to apologies for a long paragraph!

    i think part of what makes majora's mask feel so dark compared to a lot of other games is how direct and honest it is about the concept of death. it's a constant threat for the people of termina with the moon looming overhead, and the people we meet who have died over the course of the game haven't passed away peacefully or fairly. the monkey in woodfall was going to be executed after he was falsely accused of kidnapping the deku princess. darmani died while he was trying to find a way to stop the eternal winter plaguing snowhead and save his people from starvation. mikau was mortally injured while trying to recover lulu's stolen eggs, and dies right in front of link after being pulled to shore. most of the citizens of ikana died in a bloody war, and many remain as vengeful spirits who can't let go of the past.
    death is a major theme, and the fact that we face it so often while playing the game makes the threat of losing (of the moon falling) feel that much more impactful. death is real, and it's terrifying.

      I wonder if going deep underground would save you from it. Fleeing to any region of Termina wouldn't work but if they found a way underground they might be able to survive.

    oh man this has brought back some memories, the whole 'save the town and those you love before __ amount of days'
    idk if you're fond of Persona series but ive stumbled upon so much creepy stuff on those games(P3 & P4 to be precise) just for being stupid and not spending my time correctly throughout the game, as you only have a specific amount of days before everything goes to shit. i do recall P3 having various different endings but unfortunately i didn't get to see all of them, supposedly P3FES has the legit final ending which makes the regular P3's 'good' ending a bad one, and P3FES's ending isn't all that happy whatsoever(not for all the characters surely). as for P4.. ok this one was actually VERY unfair, for those like me that like to explore all options before doing the right thing
    so at some specific day in the game after you've done a wonderful job at saving everyone, you eventually need to figure out by yourself who's the responsible of all the murders that had been going on. you get to pick any person you know(as irrelevant it may be to pick one of your friends they're still in the list), but what the game didn't explain was that you actually have a limited amount of attempts to pick who you believe could be the culprit, should you not pick the right one before three attempts or so and you're already doomed to get the bad ending even though you still get to play the game for a few more days just to view how gloomy and depressing it has become, naturally you'd never expect that you could screw yourself over if you saved your game during those days like i did since one usually expects bad endings to be instant, this one instead lets you view the fruits of your failure which i consider awfully cruel. it really was like one of the most terrible bad endings a game- that is designed for you to form very special bonds with all the people around you- can make a player go through. not only do you have to endure the guilt for failing everyone and yourself, but your also instantly thrown back to the game's main menu which can only lead one to one single conclusion 'oh my god.. I HAVE TO PLAY SUCH A LENGHTY GAME ALL OVER?!'. was definetly not cool. however the atmosphere was VERY similar to those three days before the moon crashes; the weather would change drastically to a nasty fog, there was no people in town at freaking all, all the music in the background was completely gone and there was literally nothing you could do but to let the days pass until you meet your fate which i shall not spoil here. the only difference is that your character doesnt know how to play the song of time OTL
    SO EXCUSE THE LONG ASS POST, i just thought id share that since im pretty sure i cant be the only one who had to go through such a unhappy path. im not saying you have to but i believe these series would make a great creepy bad endings video

    There is also another quote in the 3Ds when the moon falls and it says:
    And so the angry moon fell from the sky
    Annihilating this world and it’s many inhabitants
    All items collected in those 3 days are lost
    If you want to continue from the last
    Time you save press 🏠 to return to the HOME menu
    And the one and only quote
    *You’ve met with a terrible fate haven’t you?*

    I think I love Majora’s Mask more than Ocarina of Time. You are fighting for more than just a prophecy to fulfill, MM gives you an entire world to save full of memorable characters and great moments to behold if you do everything and see everything. The ending is just so satisfying when you get every mask.
    I never failed to stop the aliens so I never saw what happens when you let one get to the barn. I almost cried when that played out. I need to Let’s Play this game now

    It isn't just the wedding scene in the credits sequence that doesn't show if you don't get a certain mask. The shot in the Milk Bar that ends in a focus on Gorman only shows if you have the Circus/Troupe Leader's Mask. The shot in that same place that ends with a focus on Guru-Guru only shows if you have the Bremen Mask. The shot of Grog with all his Cuccos only shows if you have the Bunny Hood. The shot of the Postman returning to town only shows if you have the Postman's Hat. The shot of the Great Fairies all in a line only shows if you have the Great Fairy's Mask. The shot in the Bomb Shop only shows if you have the Blast Mask. The last one I can think of is actually one you erroneously said is always in the credits. The shot of Cremia overseeing Romani practice archery only shows if you have Romani's Mask.
    In other words, the ending you get depends on whether or not certain masks were collected. Depending on which of those certain masks were collected, all the ones you have have the best possible outcome of the associated events merged into the New Day timeline, while the others remain unclear. I suppose the assumption is that if you don't have them, the way things turn out is as if you never interfered at any stage at all. Even if you got the bottle from Romani, if you didn't escort Cremia or failed to save any milk bottles, at least as long as you went back in time between that failure and the defeat of Majora, you can assume that Romani in your ending was mind-screwed. As a little hypothetical, if it wasn't for the fact that it's fixed by defeating Twinmold anyway, and that you need the Gibdo Mask to beat the game without exploits or cheats, the bit with Pamela running up to and being embraced by her father in the credits sequence would have been dependent on whether you had the mask or not. In fact, that scene's placement amidst the credits montage gives me the impression that at one time during development; late enough for the credits reel to be complete, the Gibdo Mask _was_ optional. Now imagine beating the game without it; the fate you'd have left that unfortunate family to.

    i know right! They say Navi is annoying, but I find Tatl way more annoying. Tatl is just rude all the time, I mean she wants something from YOU, you wouldn't even need her. Even though Navi might be annoying too, i think there grows a bigger bond between the player and her. I don't know why it is, but to me it just is. I like Navi, as annoying as she might be. i think my list goes:
    Midna
    Navi
    Phai
    the red lion king
    ghost Zelda
    and then Tatl
    (there are probably even more sidekicks from other Zelda games but I haven't played every game yet)

    5:36 You know, I thought about this, and thought "Unless the heroes actions ended the world or something"
    And then I got an idea.
    What if there was a game with a super easy final boss, but actually defeating it gave you the bad ending, and you had to lose to the boss to go to the true final boss for the good ending? Like theres a hidden timer, and if that runs out, you get the bad ending, and you also get the bad ending if you kill the boss, but if you somehow manage to fail before time runs out, then you see some cutscenes, and then are transported to the true final boss which is actually challenging.

    You can see Navi leaving Link at the ending of Ocarina of Time when they are in the Temple of Time. Why she leaves? I guess Link is looking for the same answer in those woods in Majora's Mask.

      On a serious note, Navi supposedly left because only Kokiri are supposed to receive fairies and link is actually a Hylian so she left once the journey was over.

    • @Aladato
      @Aladato 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And how would that apply to the fairy siblings and the skullkid? There was no clear reason for her to leave.

    • @MarioMastar
      @MarioMastar 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ***** Kokiri who get lost in the woods become Skull Kids. I think. They may still have a fairy, but if you recall in the one cutscene, Tatl and Tael found Skull Kid, he didn't just "receive" them.
      Nick's answer really seems most plausable, that she just left him cause he really didn't need her anymore...OR the whole time warp thing messed things up? (After all, Navi went to the present and future with Link, is she seen going back to the past in the end when Zelda sends him back to live his childhood? They might've gotten separated then.
