Chrysler Voyager Electric Window Repair

  • The drivers side electric window on this 2005 chrysler grand voyager was not working, there was a clicking noise when moving the switch. In order to look at the mechanism the door panel has to be removed. I found that there was no problem with the motor itself but the glass was sticking against the rubber window run channels, i gave the motor a tap and the window came down, then i sprayed some silicone lubricant in the run channels, and wd40 around the metal parts of the window mechanism, the window now works very smoothly without any problem.

Changed the brushes in the motor last year but it was your video that has got everything good as new - thank you.

This procedure is the same for all Caravan, Voyager and T&C models. as are the parts.
Note; I live in the desert where temps in the summer run 100 f +. When I went to open up my 2003 Caravan all of the plastic door snaps and the door latch clip fell apart. And the black vapor barrier came off in strips. This is from baking in the sun for 10 years. So be prepared to replace them if you live in the same environment.

I had the same problem. I lubricated the two tracks that the nylon runners on the window glide up and down on, worked perfect.

Howdy, Greetings from Lake Elsinore, Ca. We are considered the "High Desert " because we live at 1250 ft. although we are only 60 miles from LA. As for the caravan and Town and Country models, yes all the differance is in the trim. Chrysler T&C comes fully loaded, I have a Dodge Grand Caravan, which simply means more bells and whistles than a Caravan. Plymouth was the original mini van Voyager. The name was phased out on 2000. it's all smoke and mirrors, same car with a big wardrobe! marc

The usual problem is caused by sticking or worn carbon brushes in the motor. Sometimes if you bang the door panel while operating the switch the motor will work again for a short while. You can replace the carbon brushes, fairly easily, with similar sized brushes from a model shop or there is a company in the UK that will make them to order for just a few pounds.

Yup the panel will just pop out, at the time i made the video i took the door panel off because i wasnt sure how it was put together (some cars have the switches screwed in from the back) but on the chrysler it will pull out.
It turns out that this car needed a switch as it started playing up not long after this video, it would randomly go down but the new switch solved that.

It was not possible at the time to get the camcorder into the door panel to show the inner metal tracks as it was too bulky, and although now i use my phone to record videos, the voyager has been sold.
The window run channels are the part that the glass slides through, this video may not show them getting lubricated very well however "Nissan Primera Door Panel" shows this process a bit better.

My window was stuck in the up position when i got the car, but then after this video the window randomly went down (the switch was jammed in the down position for some reason) it was very difficult to make the window go back up, one night i got caught out in the rain with the window down. I managed to get it up and then i removed the switch, until the new one arrived.
Is the window on the passenger side making any noise at all when you move the switch?

Yay - worked on my American 2002 Chrysler Voyager - NOTE - I had 3 screws - one on the very bottom - didnt see it so broke it - no big deal. I knew this was a loose connection b/c it would work then not then stopped working altogether. I hated the thought of spending big bucks for what I knew would be a simple fix if I only knew how. Plus I am a woman and they see us coming a mile away... probably would try to charge me for a new door! Youd be surprised what they try to pull over on us!

Thats good to know, i wasn't too sure about the other models, here they only offer the chrysler as voyager or grand voyager, but wikipedia did mention Caravan and Town and Country, is there any difference in the chrysler and dodge variants in terms of equipment or trim?
Here in N ireland the highest temperature is about 20°C/68°F although normally its less than 10°C and raining :(.
The plastic parts dont degrade too badly here, but the rain can cause rust, this voyager is quite rusty underneath.

Its a fair assumption because when i had the drivers switch removed none of the other windows would operate, there are separate motors of course but the way its wired up it needs a functioning switch block at the drivers door for the other windows to work. But also the fuses are worth checking before you buy a replacement switch block

Thank you I appreiate the tips. Not only our passenger left side window on the Chrysler Voyage will not open, but also the passenger left side mirrow closes when we close the door. But when we open the door the mirrow opens.

If both windows are not operating is it a correct assumption that the actual switch with the buttons on the door panel is the problem or does that window motor operate both windows?

California, very nice, no rust problems on the cars then?
Are the engine choices the Same in the US as they are here,
my uncle drove a 97 voyager 3.3 v6 running on LPG/propane for a number of years and it was a very nice car lots of power and a great sound, this diesel one belongs to a neighbour and its just not the same as the v6; too slow and rumbly and it isnt very economical either

Do you have any instruction on how to replace a motor & regulator for the passenger side of a 1993 Plymouth Grand Voyager ?

      +paul fleming
Unfortunatley no, not sure if we had a chrysler voyager sold here in the uk or irish market back in 1993 certainly havent seen one. Although i would say one of the chrysler or plymoth forums should have that sort of info. Sorry i cant be of any more assistance.

My window will not move, stuck open. I hear something turning inside the door. .. maybe a different problem than yours. Any ideas?

Had a problem like this the other day on a citroen dispatch the splines on the end of the motor where it engages with the regulator (mechanism) snapped. Other causes include broken cables in the regulator or broken plastic clips where the glass attaches to the regulator.

How about a window that has stopped working altogether? Do I need to buy a new motor from Chrylser or would I be able to get equivalent from a hobby shop or the like, or maybe a generic motor from a supplier? Are they special 'window' motors or just a run of the mill motor?

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  10 ปีที่แล้ว

Normally car window motors are of a certain shape that you can't use anything else.
You might be able to get replacement carbon brushes for the motor but changing them can be difficult, the motors are usually not made to be opened up easily.
The cheapest place would be a scrap yard or ebay and get a second hand window motor in good condition.
