Hi Barry, That’s a great dressing for a PTN using magic glass. I have a pack in my Tying Kit and your video has given me inspiration to tie a few, plus some variations for my Fly Box. regards, Wayne 😊
Very nice iteration, Barry. I've been tying a very similar pattern using Larva Lace for the abdomen and ice dub peacock for the thorax. Cheers and best regards from the bucolic Pocono Mountains!
So simple but so deadly. My late dad tied practically the same pattern though he didn't have the plastic material so he used a rubber band. Problem with this was the rubber would perish though by the standards of the day it made an effective pattern . He dreamt up the rubber band nymph along with another engineer when they were supposed to be working on something else. This nymph really looks the part with its clear plastic body.
@@Thefeatherbender . Hi Barry. Put a little super glue under the rubber band. Not to much just a light coting and wind the band over when the glue is still wet
Nice tie! Barry, what brand of whip finisher are you using here? It appears extremely well made. All I've been able to find seem to use thinner wire to form the business end.
Johnny Brewer buy yourself a standard size Tiemco whip finisher I have had the same problem with cheap whips can’t believe how easygoing the Tiemco makes the job they are the ducks nuts, they are a little pricey but well worth the money
After 25 years, I am just getting back into tying flies for personal use. There are no fly tying supply stores around me. Where is the best online place to get supplies?
Hi Paul, thats good to hear! Well thats depending on where you live? But I would recommend that ALL natural materials should be purchased in shop, you need to handle these personally before you buy. A common mistake with even experienced fly tyers is that when buying natural materials, they purchase on line or take the first packet hanging on the peg in the shop. I guarantee that if there is 10 dry fly capes in brown hanging on the same peg, there will be a best one and a worst one with eight in-between! You need to remove them all and choose the best one for you! If you buy online you have no idea what you will get!!! I would take a trip to your nearest fly tying dealer if possible, you will not only save money but also tie better flies. That being said you can purchase all hooks and synthetics on line. Good luck Paul if you need any further help please don't hesitate...
Hey Barry, nice pattern! I always like that type of wrap or lace for abdominal work. Remember when Swannundaze came out? It really changed patterns. Sadly it is no longer made but other products are available, like the product you use. Sometimes I wish my fingers were slimmer for pulling fibers from the eye, but sadly there are many men out there glad I am not a Proctologist! Hope all is well with you. Oh hey! Barry is there a fly pattern that represents Norway? They did this on Canadian stamps, some provinces produced a fishing fly that represented fly fishing in that particular province. Is there one that comes to mind for Norway?
Hi Kerry, thanks. Yes I do believe that many years ago, Norway's most famous fly tyer who was a friend of mine 'Erling Sand' who passed away about 20 years ago, had some of his flies on stamps, one of his most famous patterns was called 'Verre en minken' which translated means ' worse than a mink'
Hi Paul, Wow that was a cracking striper!!! Well I have a lot of patterns that work really well for these big stripers. Heres just one: th-cam.com/video/Y_kPxPFQ7LE/w-d-xo.html

Hi Johnny, thanks. It's a Frank Matarelli rotary whip finisher that I got from the man himself in 1994, never used anything else since!
