  • A nice little nymph made from one wood duck flank feather. The speckled wood duck feather gives a very realistic nymph appearance to this quick and easy generic pattern.

    Beautiful, as always. I've never thought of putting a wrap between the legs when you first split them. That is going to help me a lot. I learn something from all your videos. Thank you Barry!

    Mallard flank works just as well, and a change of dubbing colour offers many subtle alternatives. I think this will become a classic, like the excellent Sawyer Pheasant Tail. I tied up a couple of rows in no time, down to a Tiemco 19, and they look great. After hours of testing one'self with degree level confections, a few of these beginner flies calms the soul like two fingers of Glenlivet.

    Genuinely heartening to see those whoops moments. I think it's great you don't edit them all out. Nice to know that master tyers suffer the same, if less often, problems as the rest of us.

    Impressed with the simplicity of the materials as well as the accuracy of the performance. Very nice pattern, I will surely tie it myself. Thanks, Barry! Btw, is Sheer your favourite thread, you use various colours of it rather often. What do you think of Veevus? I find it ganske bra.

      Hi SB, thanks. I use a lot of Sheer & Dyneema for my deer hair work, I haven't really used Veevus except for their GSP, og death er ganske bra må jeg si!

    I tend to use a lot of wood duck plumage because they are both common and tasty. Nice adaptation.

    Hi, I am going to Croatia in 1 week which dry-fly would u use for trout in a river?

    • @Thefeatherbender
      @Thefeatherbender  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Max, I'm not sure what is hatching at that time in Croatia, but I would guess some medium sized caddis.

    Nice one Barry! I like minimal materials patterns and efficient use of them - no waste on that flank feather! When wrapping a multi-fiber body (like herl, pheasant tail or as in this case, woodduck flank) I leave the thread at the tie-in point and use the body fibers to push the thread forward as I wrap - find that the thread helps keep the fibers together. Cheers!

    Oh Barry.. that was a nice one.. I have been so busy with the summer remodel I have not had time to sit.. it is cool and wet this morning so I got to come and sit in front of this infernal machine for a bit.. I had forgotten how relaxing it is to watch your videos.. I miss it.. But winter will be here soon enough and my love/hate relationship with the infernal machine will begin again.. I hope all is going well with you over there..my little nephew is coming for a few days tonight and hope to get some fishing in and other exciting 13 year old stuff.. Hope this finds you happy and well.. me and my Norwegian better half are doing great here.. take care my brother.. carry on!
