Great tutorial Sara. After reading the manual today, I felt a little overwhelmed with all the settings. Thanks for going over the basics, and presenting in a simple to understand concept. And of the three tutorials I've watched, you have the best presentation. Thanks..

Thanks for the video, Sara. I just received my DR-40 a few minutes ago and didn't really want to read the manual on how to use it so I resorted to TH-cam. Your video was the first one that came up. It really helped me to get started with my new purchase. Cheers!!!

Man... I just got the portacapture X6 yesterday and have been real close to taking my 12 gauge to it, all 8 shots, too. That's stupid that you have to hit record 2 times to get it to actually record. I'll admit, I kinda half-ass skimmed through the directions. But that had yet to fail me until yesterday and today. I guess I will givve it a go now that I watched this video you made. I'll let you know how it goes LOL

Wow this is a Radio 4 quality in your pocket. Really good easy to follow review. My question is i have the Dr-07 mk II so i wondering if one is better than the other? Am not as familiar with the different kinds of mics so am very curious ? I love sound and i love the fact i can plug in Binaural mics meaning the mics are in my ears not a dummy head. But thanks for your video very enjoyable…

I don't get why some reviewers say this doesn't have any way to overdub, and then others say there is an overdub mode that is easy to use. It's like some people don't have it, or don't know it exists or something. This review did not mention it.

Great video! What settings are you using and how do you have yours attached to your 70D? I have a 70D and this exact mic but cannot seem to get noise free audio. Do you have it attached directly to the camera or as a stand alone recorder and then laying down the audio using plural eyes or something like that?
    Thank you!

So once you hit stop it creates another new track automatically? I have a Tascam that you have to go in and manually create a new track every time. It is too time consuming so I am looking for something a little more on the go.

Thanks for the tutorial; you did a good job of introduction for newbies like me. Another newbie thing how do you make the dr-40 set levels automatically? I can't find it in the menus. Perhaps others here may know this answer as it's driving me crazy--autolevels helps a lot when recording yourself :).

I am using it as an External mic to my android phone camera
So I go guitar effects with headphones into the Left mic then usb menu "connect" to igo phone adapter
the thing is you can't monitor it as an External mic on the Dr headphone out it is just a link for the phone to recognize the audio signal .
I am going to run into a yamaha mixer with mp3
get a headphone cue mix there then into the dr40x to phone cam
    that is the holy grail

I'll be filming a musical and considering purchasing the Tascam DR-40 to replace the audio of my Canon 5D Mark III and Canon HF G20 for better audio sound.

    • @saradietschy

You have to sync the audio in post so maybe a rode video mic pro would be a better option since the audio records straight to the camera.
