  • In this video I show you how to roast coffee beans in a popcorn maker. Roasting coffee at home is pretty simple, and it can yield some really great tasting coffee. If you have a few minutes, try roasting your own!

Good old trial and error! I will start with the just under half a cup and see how it goes, thanks for showing the fails, much more important to us newbies than anything else.

Buy a electronic timer for 7 bucks and program it to on/off with a cooling down interval.

I've heard that air fryers also work as a coffee roasters. Never had the pleasure to try this out.
Looking forward to seeing you dive more into coffee roasting

Highly recommend Sweet Maria’s for coffee roasting materials. They ethically source green coffee beans with loads of information and variety. They also have a new product called the Popper. They’ve designed their own popcorn popper for the purposes of roasting coffee. It looks great and functional and I think would be perfect for a beginner coffee roaster. I personally roast with a flour sifter and heat gun setup. I can roast 1lb evenly with temperature and agitation control. Love the new channel and love to see my two worlds collide. Beer and coffee. Maybe you’ll add whiskey next :)

    1) You can’t roast batches back to back. Home popcorn poppers aren’t made to handle that much heat.
    2) You can eliminate the problem of the beans popping out by making a chimney, either a glass one from an oil lamp or cutting the ends off a can.

There are better popcorn makers to use (still very cheap) there are ones that actually rotate the beans while they roast so it makes the roasting of beans a lot more even.

Have you ever tried putting some beans in a metal bowl and hitting them with a heat gun stirring continuously with a rugged spoon? And maybe some oven mitts would be a good idea. Hahaha!!!

Fam, this was 100% your fault. Use your ears. You heard the motor couldn't even start at first. This is the quickest, cheapest and (usually) most fool proof way to roast beans - coming from a household that roasts at home on a daily basis since coffee was first discovered.
