2:27 "You want to not only mix it up to confuse your component, but you want to adapt to how your opponent is reacting and follow up with the most appropriate attack." Love this, huge knowledge bomb right there for me as a beginner in Muay Thai/kickboxing.

🦶 0:00 Outside Foot Sweep: Targets the opponent's lower calf with an ankle hook, aiming to sweep them off their feet by pulling the leg towards you.
🤺 0:59 Failed Foot Sweep to Darting Cross: Even if the foot sweep doesn't land, it sets up an off-balancing darting cross, usually followed by a double step low kick for distance management.
🔄 2:46 Mixing Up Combinations: After a foot sweep or thigh kick, transitioning into cross or hook punches, followed by high kicks, showcasing the importance of adaptability and variety in striking combinations.
🥋 3:56 Rear Kick to Superman Cross: Uses a body or low kick as a feint for a Superman cross, with a follow-up double step low kick to maintain distance or close in.
5:31 Hand Trap to Cross: Involves using a lead hand to trap and pull down the opponent's lead hand, creating an opening for a cross punch.
👊 6:22 Cross to Rear High Kick: The cross punch sets up a rear high kick, taking advantage of the opponent's lowered guard.
👟 7:16 Jab to High Kick: Uses a jab (or body jab) to distract and lower the opponent's guard, followed by a high kick for a powerful finish.

I was bone bruised just from watching this video. Excellent Muay Thai demonstration from Mr. Chan as always. This is encouraging me to restart Muay Thai myself. I once studied Muay Thai at Linxx Academy of Martial Arts and Hybrid Academy of Martial Arts. Actually, I had the honor of meeting Mr. Brandon Vera of One Championship at one of them.

The first one has similarities to the sapu family of sweeps from Silat. When the opponent throws a cross it works well to intercept with the sapu luar as the opponent's body is already rotated slightly in the opposite direction to the sweep.

  • @rainbowskyrunner

1:37 I think you could do an overhand or a hook right before or after the low kick as well if you cut your angle step in instead of out like you do. Also just faking the cross or doubling up could be good, if faked in to another power punch hook, uppercut or overhand from the back hand it could be a great feint, and if you just double up it could put them even further off balance or open up the guard for one to land or another opening to the body might be there just after the kick depending on how they respond to the repetition. I figured you might like the ideas of you have not already tried them out.

I can see why they used, the only flaws/weak sides i see at least during this video is on 2. After outside low kick/sweep the time that it takes to hit and the way it's thrown leaves opening for huge counter with hook or if first kick isn't effective enough for things like superman punch thrown slightly off balance yet still delivering good amount of power. second point of this is when you move to the side, and also when throw third kick you can be swept by opponent, he can catch the kick and bring you down. 3. Same weakness/opening, after hits when going to side and when throwing delayed kick, leaves open for counter, 2:59 jab takes off vision from your opponent but second hand is lowered meaning your entire face is open for counter. 7. This bring me back the image of D'amato doing coaching video with Ali, where Ali showed his shuffle and D'amato did exactly the same thing, step&jab. Great video overall, nice content.

This shows that your timing, sensitivity, and range management can switch from striking to trapping seamlessly. Not only are you kickboxing well but your controlling a new game play by adding your trapping technique. Your JKD instructors deserves praise as well. Good job! 👍
