*During the victory theme portion, I should've been clearer on what I meant. A lot of the victory themes were performed by the orchestra, so it give it a different feel compared to the ones used in future titles.

2:15 - Europe got the game on May 24, *2002,* not 2001. Thanks for the corrections, didn’t realize that dumb mistake until now.
Doc was added in Melee specifically cause Sakurai wanted Dr. Mario Music, Honestly I find that hilarious
Not only can ReDeads pop out of Party Balls, Crates and Barreld randomly in Vs matches but also the other Adventure Mode enemies such as Goombas, Octorocks, and Topis from the Ice Climber stage, can even pick up these enemies with Z and toss them at your opponents for heavy damage and knockback, honestly that random chance of enemies showing up should’ve been a mainstay in future titles.
51 views. Ouch. We need to boost this video.
Small thing, you said that Japan and US released in November/december 2001, and Europe was may 2001. May 2002 was the correct release date:) keep up the videos! Yours are extremely well made and you deserve a much larger channel!
Wow, I somehow didn't catch that mistake while writing the script, or recording the lines... or editing the video. 😅 Thanks for catching that, and I appreciate the kind words!
This has fantastic production quality! Keep it up and your channel will surely grow over time🎉
This is my chilldhood... Beating my brother's friends even before I could read properly.
hidden gem!
Wavedashing, teching, l-cancelling are _not_ bugs lol.
Wavedashing even has its own name in the coding if I recall correctly, and it was originally intended as a fancy way of landing on the stage. It got removed in Brawl and Smash 4 because it wasn't intended to be a central movemet mechanic (as well as creating an artificial skill barrier to a degree), and wavedashing/landing have since returned in nerfed forms in Smash Ultimate along with directional airdodges.
Teching/l-cancelling are carry overs from smash 64.
L-cancelling was called "Smooth Landing" on the Japanese Smash page for 64 and was actually nerfed in Melee, reducing recovery frames on landing using an air move by half in Melee whereas it removes them _completely_ in 64. Which is why 64's competitive scene is completely bonkers with touch of death combos and shield breaks.
Teching is not a bug in any way, shape, or form, and exists in literally every single Smash game. In Melee, like so many other things carried over from 64, teching was expanded so that you could tech on more than just the floor. Ceilings, walls and even the sides of stages. All 100% intentional.
Tech chasing isn't even an "advanced technique", and it's something that my friends and I did from the beginning with 64; all tech chasing entails is trying to predict where someone is going to roll to and punishing it. Literally a fighting game tactic.
Chainthrowing is not a bug either, but it's definitely an oversight, as the worst offender for chainthrowing, Sheik, had her chainthrow patched out in the PAL version of the game. Other things were changed too in Melee's only balance patch, which the competitive scene ignores due to the nature of NTSC and PAL. Brawl somehow had way worse chainthrows, outside of Wobbling (because holy crap that one is outright unfair)
Jump cancelling is not a bug, but it does make Fox and Falco... ridiculous 😅
Melee in fact has plenty of bugs, but none of these things qualify. Thankfully most of the bugs aren't gamebreaking, but they are funny. I think my favorite is Bowser's giant hand 😂
This is true, but still a good video regardless. Great summary of where the mechanics come from!
Excellent video. I'm a sucker for smash and retrospectives. You carry a really great voice as well.
"Europe unfortunately didn't get the game until *mentions date that is earlier than the others*"
Lol yeah I didn’t realize I said 2001, idk how I missed that
Melee still beats current Smash in almost every category
>Best gameplay even just from a casual perspective
>Best single player modes (same as Brawl)
>Best overall soundtrack with many unique choices for stages that would become staples thanks to Melee
>Pretty much every stage is fun to play on with the exception of maybe Icicle Mountain
>Most of the trophies were made specifically for the game and there's tons of weird picks you probably didn't know of before
>Items and Pokémon are hectic and fun without being overpowered and still requiring some skill to use well
>Being developed when it was, means no character had their "standardized" modern looks, so everyone is basically higher fidelity versions of their 90's designs
Every Smash after is basically quantity over quality, and it kind of ruins the charm when so many Trophies, Stages, Songs, etc. are literally just lifted from other games. Sometimes for better or worse.
good shit dude
13:55 The Cloaking Device also doesn't make you take damage. You still take the knockback if you're hit, but your percent doesn't go up. It's also something that the AI players will drop everything to go pick up.
@@crocworks I didn’t even notice that! Thanks for pointing that out!
Enjoyed the video awesome 🎉🎉🎉
Glad you enjoyed!
Respect for the Toonami music
I was wondering how long it’d take before someone recognized it
Great vid 👍 🇨🇦
Thanks!!
Nah that intro was lit as hell
@@moosesues8887 thanks, I spent a while trying to get that intro just right
Yessur
video about to blow up in 3...2...1... mark my words and well deserved!
Nowadays, Smash Melee is overrated. and I Prefer Brawl over Melee since I'm a Yoshi Main. I already did 120 Videos of Stock Battles in Melee and that was enough for now
Yoshi's better in Melee
Melee is like the one game where Yoshi is cool
