This is one of those videos I could've listened to another 5 minutes of you going over the specs and the process of selecting/building your cab options with Mojo. Nice cab!
I was given an early (first run)1964 Tremolux amp but not the cabinet. I contacted MojoTone and commissioned them to make a faithful matching 1964 cabinet with the appropriate 2 10" speakers, the closest to the now totally un-affordable Oxfords . It's excellent in every way and a true reproduction down to the tilt back legs. Super well made with great woods and sounds great. I'd recommend MojoTone any day.
Just wanted to say, you have a fantastic channel. Not sure if you have a media/broadcasting background or anything, but your delivery and range of topics are superb. Simple and to the point, but entertaining and informative. Just wanted to drop a lil kudos and positivity your way.
Wow ! Superb cabinet and demo !..I own a rare 1990 Marshall model 4101 JCM900 1x12 combo amp, switchable 50/100watt I got off a CSU student for $300 about 5 years ago, yeah got it for a mere 300 bucks Phil,... I had and have been looking around for a castered 1936B Marshall cab for it, but after seeing this, I would like, actually I would love to have one of those Mojo Tone 2x12 cabs to run it thru...I was wanting, hoping Mojo Tone would do a Denver or Fort Collins Colorado amp build seminar at one of the Music Go Round franchises or a Flipside Music store, etc..either would be great hosts for that, and even wrote about it...try to catch your show every Friday "Live" if possible..67 and still hitting treading the boards for the love of playing and some decent $bucks$ too delivering Bluz Rockin'...Life is good... have an awesome Holiday and New Years !
I almost got one of their cabinets back when they were the featured builder for JCA amps/cabs a few years ago (not sure if they still are); I wasn't sure until you mentioned that you got the Mojotone v30s and that light bulb turned on. Sounds killer! Now I wish I'd gone that route....
I have a LOPO line 2X12 vertical slant that I bought a number of years ago on a black friday super sale. It's a great cabinet (for a steal) and that company was purchased by MOJO. Some of the current MOJO styles were, I believe, adopted from the LOPO line. I also have a MOJO 2X12 horizontal slant that is great as well. Both LOPO and MOJO are high quality in sound and workmanship! I totally agree with your 'endorsement'.
Hi Phillip, I watch your channel for a long time now and you always made think outside of the box. I'm brazilian and we don't actually have any acquisitive power here at all! The market down here is kinda reverse, you get all you boutique gear for less than big brands! Be it pedals, amps, guitars or whatever. Throughout the years we've gotten great craftmanship in everything, some of it still has a salty price but it is the best value for the price. I'm buying a speaker from a local brand called "voghan speakers" that are really pocket friendly and great sounding to try it out with my Marshall combo amp, if I like it I'm ordering a 2x12 cab made by aura amps with their speakers on! Thank you to make me know my gear!
I spent 12 months looking at Valve Amps and Speaker Cabinets before I bought them. I really wanted the Bogner 212C which is an oversize 2 x 12 with both closed and open back configurations but no stocks were available for 3 months and had to jump to save $1200 on my purchase on a special offer for Hughes and Kettner Grandmeister 40 Deluxe and matching 2 x 12 with Vintage 30's. What I learnt after much research on cabinet design was a speaker is basically an air pump. Smaller cabinets need a ported vent to allow the speaker diaphragm to oscillate and pump air as it should. Finger jointed Birch has better sound qualities although the denser the cabinet material the better but a 4 x 12 chipboard cabinet requires a new back for me to lift. Open backs are louder, closed backs are better at bedroom sound levels. Larger cabinet volumes for given speaker combinations have better bottom end response and sound fuller. The sound quality of 1 x 12, 2 x 12 or 4 x 12 is subjective. Hope this helps making a choice in cabinets.
Mojotone offers excellent quality custom cabs that they can load up with your choice of speakers or that you can load with your own speakers. A few months ago I purchased one of their 2x12 “Lite” cabs with British styling (black tolex, gold corners and hardware) on sale via Reverb and they loaded it up for me with 2 x Celestion Neo Creamback 60w speakers-cab plus speakers weigh less than 35 lbs (cab is pine) and it is paired with my Marshall Origin 50w head-looks and sounds great and is easy to move without further wrecking my already bad back. I am very pleased-it wont be my last Mojotone cab purchase that is for sure. Yes they cost more than. a Harley Benton cab-but I assure you they are better made and especially if you are considering investing in a 2x12 or a 4x12 and you want high quality/durability and great sound and pick your own speakers but dont want to pay Marshall, Fender, Mesa, or boutique prices-check out Mojotone for sure!!!
You just made my decision on the British Slant 2x12" easier. I have been back and forth on that or the Imperial Slant for a month. I hope they still have your logo plate when I order. That will be a nice little freebie. White Elephant Tolex with.....it's the cloth that is making me go nuts. Maybe the Mojotone Light Oxblood variant? I want something out of the ordinary but classy. I hate ordering nice things for myself because I always have an issue pulling the trigger on things over a couple hundred bucks. I deserve nice things right?
That turned out fantastic! You need to talk CGS into getting one of these for his studio. That is also a very fair price for a high quality custom made cab. God bless and rock on 👍🎸😎
Making your own is some surprise & not so surprising when using the wrong parts but experiencing it comes to a taste of choice NICE AWESOME TONES FALLING OUT 👍😎🎸👌✌
I looked into Avatar cabinets after seeing them in the backline at Claptons Crossroads festival. I bought a used 2by12 open back cabinet for 250 bucks. Warehouse guitar speakers were blowing out the new Chinese Celestions and I bought 2 for 100 bucks. I'm older and the lightness of the Avatar is a real plus. Mine is made from either pine or spruce. It sounds great. It weighs about 20 pounds. BTW after the Chinese celestions break in they sound great . My reference tone was my old 70s Marshall combo with original greenbacks that I had for years. The 70s Marshall combo was by the curb waiting for the garbage truck. The lady figured it was worthless since the speaker paper was gone, power cord eaten by rats, and the grillcloth.had a huge hole in it from the rats. A friend lived nearby so we cleaned it up with bleach and a vacuum so I could get it home. It still reaked of piss badly . I had the speakers rebuilt, new power cord, vacuumed out a ton of roaches inside the chassis, lastly a new grill cloth. I had it converted to el34 tubes from the kt88. The combo weighed 90 pounds! It had the full cleans of the Jtm 45 with 50 watts of power and way more headroom. It originally had the black and gold basket weave grill cloth, non master volume, and kt88. If anyone has an idea what model this old Marshall is let me know. All that info on the combo cabinet was eaten by the rats lol. You should keep your eyes open for gear at Goodwill, curbs lol, pawn shops etc.
Great to give some love to Mojotone! I fancy their amps and kits (haven't tried yet) Never considered their cabs and speakers,So Thanks Brother! You built a Mojotone Kit didn't You? Be Well Phil!
There's really no getting around a cabinet's interior cubic footage and dimensions of width, height & depth. Even with smaller partial open back practice amps. I have a basic 1x8 Pyle PVamp60. I've even experimented with breathable foam for tone. The foam acts more like a breathable filter rather than closing the open back. Subtle differences, it's not muffled at all and sounds as a warmer darker open back tone. The foam that I'm using are those kitchen table foam pads anyone can get at Wal-Mart or their favorite lower priced department store. The foam allows the sound waves to marinate. Others advised me to try corrugated cardboard box material. That works well too, bit doesn't breathe like the foam filter. I experimented with a 60 egg cardboard box you can get at a grocery store for bulk egg purchases. The filter is an added bonus as dust & pet hairs won't build up inside the open back cabinet. Fewer pests as well if you live in Florida and spiders or palmetto bugs like to nest inside a cabinet.
