Long story short, this show was a surprise "event" put on by NIN to support Year Zero. Certain fans received tickets which instructed them to a specific location where they would find "resistance kits" which contained a cell phone. They would later get a call instructing them of a location and time to be at - that was a surprise underground show by NIN. At the end of the show, a staged raid was conducted which is tied into the theme of the "Year Zero" album.
Right? I'm watching this a decade after it was published & was thinking the same thing. Now it seems scary to watch after what happened just last year at Pulse nightclub, and at the concert in Manchester, England, back in May for example. I doubt very much that NIN would even consider staging a SWAT team to act out something like this now.
It was played in the second show of their first tour in Portugal. I went to the first one and loved it so much that I almost bought a ticket to the second show, the day after, but because my friend couldn't afford it and I didn't feel like going alone, I didn't. Next day they fucking play this fucking song. REGRET. REGRET FOREVER.
Imagine going to that concert and thinking ur gonna get killed by a swat team and then learning that it is just a prank made by an old goth dude and his band so they could advance their puzzle game
Aaron North fucking slayed on this song...A lot of people hated his guitar playing. It was too raw and chaotic or sloppy for some folk...But this shows when he just slows down and stands still that he could play just as well as Robin Fink...
All you people commenting on Trent's voice being sub-par should also realize that this song is rarely ever played live since it puts an immense amount of strain on his vocals...so just be thankful like me that he actually plays this song live when he does...
@cheesemaker3000 Aha.That makes sense. Thanks for the info.Even though some NIN fans may not share the same views as Trent or each other.I and some can appreciate his sentiments and beliefs by looking into his mind's eye through his music.
Hard song to sing hes 50 something Years old. It is a few steps down than how he used to sing it but over all amazing performance for a difficult song. He sounds good. Very professional.
Nins highest point in music I remember & loved this time, I remember seeing nin in manchester and I got home and someone found that usb stick in the toilets there with in this twilight and uploaded it that night , it was just so good!!!! but....I have to splice that when the power goes off with Aliens 2 ....how could the cut the power...there animals! its gonna happen. it has to be done and it will be done.....
@Fernandoandretn before it came out, Reznor would hide USB drives of Year Zero all around the venues of his concerts which would also contain random information on them.It was then discovered that he had a "Secret meeting" for fans, which was a fictional resistance to the oppressive government that he sings about in the album Year Zero Then at that meeting he performed a surprise concert, that he then set up a fake SWAT team to raide forcing everyone to leave the concert at the end by "gunpoint"
They did the same thing in Atlanta (Deluth) when I saw them, I believe that it was "In This Twilight" that they finished with and stopped playing their instrumentds....it was pretty awesome huh?!
wtf? why r people giving you thumbs down?! This crowd is aweful...it is a fact. I would be going nuts if I was that close to them. And why are people dissing Aaron North? And whoever the hell "slowfuse" is obiosly doesn't know that Aaron toured w NIN for only several years. They (He) have been making music since '89. To say that he ruins every song ever is an ignorant statement, he's just going on what all these other fools are saying about him sucking. A sheep obviously, Aaron is on point here.
Man I sooooo wish here was a studio version of this track , this may sound blasphemic but I like this version better then album version. I also think Trents slightly deeper voice sounds good in this track.
he is doing a fucking great job with such a studio song ! It is the first time i saw this song live .. and i thought he would do it worse than that .. but he did not :) god loves nine inch nails!
@Sean19a7x2 it's very difficult for him to sing live. he's constantly in his upper register and after singing it for a while he would lose his voice. this performance was actually transposed down a minor third (3 notes lower) from the original version on the fragile.
This is just someone in the audience with a video camera. Listen to how amazing NIN sounds. Most great bands today sound like shit even with professionals doing the audio. They are a masterpiece!!!
this was for the year zero promotion. It was a free concert. Year Zero is a concept album that criticizes contemporary policies of the United States government by presenting a dystopian vision of the year 2022.
You're saying that you don't like the bass player? Jordie White!? He, also is an incredible musician, I saw this lineup back in '06 and it was one of the best NIN shows I have ever been to, And I have been to quite a few, but just liek you said, "To each his own."
They need to make a DVD of this video. I've skimmed though the whole thing on the OSR site, and it's freaking amazing. The end reminds me of Cloverfield a bit. Does anyone know where I can download the entire video? I would love to have the whole thing...
Yeah, Good point. I totally agree and stand corrected. If it were a more intimate setting and I was 2 feet away from the man himself then I think the ONLY thing that I woukd be able to do is stand in complete AWE, And by the way, I'm totally jealous that u saw them at Lollapalooza. Did they open w/ 999,999 and go into 1,000,000?
@cambruoso in interviews he says that he believes in none of the and that there is no higher power, i think he references it to the term god of being completion or absolution
I'm sure it's some kind of bad horsey style high a mod overdriving whatever Badass thing is next in the chain. Likely the LP and the amp are key in the sound as well... Probably some hand wound class A boutique amp.
Aaron North? Are you kidding me? He's incredible...Trent picked him for a reason. And not to disagree w you twice but i thought this was a great performance. It's NIN live for God's sake!
I agree about Aaron North, I think he does a great version of The Big Come Down - I much prefer Aaron's take on that to Robin Fincks (not that I don't like Finck)
I thought I would never see them performing this song, this is the very first time I saw them performing it. I needs more energy on stage but the quality of video is great compared to all video concerts I'd seen.
At the end of the show, a staged raid was conducted which is tied into the theme of the "Year Zero" album.
themike inwonderd wtf Was going on
Right? I'm watching this a decade after it was published & was thinking the same thing. Now it seems scary to watch after what happened just last year at Pulse nightclub, and at the concert in Manchester, England, back in May for example. I doubt very much that NIN would even consider staging a SWAT team to act out something like this now.
That is dope as fk
Maaan this is so cool
I remember
I swear this is the only live version of 'We're In This Together' on the fucking internet. This is the only one I can find.,
Its only been played live 5 times
It was played in the second show of their first tour in Portugal. I went to the first one and loved it so much that I almost bought a ticket to the second show, the day after, but because my friend couldn't afford it and I didn't feel like going alone, I didn't. Next day they fucking play this fucking song. REGRET. REGRET FOREVER.
@@cstz sucks dude but at least you got to see them play!!
I have never been so lost in my life but this song is a life raft in a ocean of nothing. Thanks Reznor
So true for many of us
yes... and if u look over here im right there with you. At least we got to witness all of this world... what a ride Atticus and Azazel!
What de heEEEEE...?
How are u now?
This is one of the few songs that helps me pushing myself through difficult periods. It gives me hope and strength.. to make it through somehow...
It sounds even darker in C... I loved it... I can't stop thinking what it must be there... like a punch of sound in the face.
Imagine going to that concert and thinking ur gonna get killed by a swat team and then learning that it is just a prank made by an old goth dude and his band so they could advance their puzzle game
I love how quiet everyone is during the piano parts...There's kind of ethereal beauty to the silence...
Aaron North fucking slayed on this song...A lot of people hated his guitar playing. It was too raw and chaotic or sloppy for some folk...But this shows when he just slows down and stands still that he could play just as well as Robin Fink...
I don't know if u can compare... but north sounds great here and brings a more belew-esque vibe to it -
He definitely had his own unique style. I seen Aaron twice in Detroit.
The more time goes by, the more I appreciate North. Turns out he's a huge Greg Ginn fan, which makes sense when you listen to him.
I miss his playing. Saw this lineup in HK back in 07 and it was so raw and good
They might be the best live band of our generation.
I was so into this song for the entirety of my time spent in high school. I've always wanted to see it live.
I love this song in the key of C. So much more to work with.
*Only 18* 👇👇👇

this shit would be legitimately terrifying if it happened today. i wonder if they could even get away with something like that in 2018
love this song, love aaron north's performance in this one.
i could die to these songs , so fucking awesome !
This amazing song would not be complete without the beautifully perfect outro. Add The Frail for a win.
this performance is in a much deeper key because trent's voice can't reach the high notes of this song as he used to so it feels much more dark.
Aaron North needs to get back into NIN.. Saw him live and he is a monster... Not compared to TRENT REZNOR.
But a great NIN soldier.
If only I could hear this live for once.... Then I could die a happy woman!
I love this version
We're in this together....My fav NIN song and they have some great music.
the sound of this video iis excellent!! i feel like if i'm really there, awesome!!! this is one of my fav songs \m/ thanks for sharing :D
All you people commenting on Trent's voice being sub-par should also realize that this song is rarely ever played live since it puts an immense amount of strain on his vocals...so just be thankful like me that he actually plays this song live when he does...
I adore this song, but it's just not the same in a lower key. Still it's awesome to hear live. Wish I had been there.
The ending's really cool. They pulled it off well.
@cheesemaker3000 Aha.That makes sense. Thanks for the info.Even though some NIN fans may not share the same views as Trent or each other.I and some can appreciate his sentiments and beliefs by looking into his mind's eye through his music.
Insanely good audio! And I laughed my ass of at the ending. Trent must have smiled when he planned that one.
Really good video! One of my favorite songs. I wish I was there. Trent's voice cracked a little I can see why he feels its tough to play
Lol, that number is a now a friend of mine's. I wish I could've went to one of these shows, I can't wait til NIN start touring again!!
What a powerfull song, it is, the fragile is really good album
If they play this song at their last shows in NYC I will be so happy. Every time I've seen them I've been hoping for this and Ruiner.
We re in this Together my dear trent!
Hard song to sing hes 50 something Years old. It is a few steps down than how he used to sing it but over all amazing performance for a difficult song. He sounds good. Very professional.
this sounds perfect.
This song is like 3x as good live... I like the solo here much more.
Josh Freese... Man or Machine?
God I love this song. It sounds so good live too ❤
simply amazing
I wish they would have done a live version on AATCHB :(
th-cam.com/video/irY4SryDTvU/w-d-xo.html
i want this in portugal on friday!!!!!!!!!
Great performance.
tempo seems a bit faster than the studio recording; I like it.
Nins highest point in music I remember & loved this time, I remember seeing nin in manchester and I got home and someone found that usb stick in the toilets there with in this twilight and uploaded it that night , it was just so good!!!! but....I have to splice that when the power goes off with Aliens 2 ....how could the cut the power...there animals! its gonna happen. it has to be done and it will be done.....
man, they rarelly play this song.. and its my favoite nin song .. the first one i ever heard from them..
Wish i couldn't seen em =(
i wish i was there!!!!!!!!!
@Fernandoandretn
before it came out, Reznor would hide USB drives of Year Zero all around the venues of his concerts which would also contain random information on them.It was then discovered that he had a "Secret meeting" for fans, which was a fictional resistance to the oppressive government that he sings about in the album Year Zero Then at that meeting he performed a surprise concert, that he then set up a fake SWAT team to raide forcing everyone to leave the concert at the end by "gunpoint"
OMG! Great Song
They did the same thing in Atlanta (Deluth) when I saw them, I believe that it was "In This Twilight" that they finished with and stopped playing their instrumentds....it was pretty awesome huh?!
Loooove.
o gosh that performance was so intense i actually felt i was there or something... this really makes me wish i could have gotten to see them live :(
man! you were so close to the stage!!!!!! what luck!!!
Great! Just Great!
@SuperiorSwagon1 totally agree, totally. No one is illuminated
damn goosebumps
Epic share. Thanks
perfect!
good point of view
(y)
Wow... People know when to be silent. I really like that audience.
Oh. yes.
wtf? why r people giving you thumbs down?! This crowd is aweful...it is a fact. I would be going nuts if I was that close to them. And why are people dissing Aaron North? And whoever the hell "slowfuse" is obiosly doesn't know that Aaron toured w NIN for only several years. They (He) have been making music since '89. piano at the end of the song, just wow
I can't fucking wait until the Year Zero concept TV series is aired by HBO in the coming years!
Sadly, looks like it will never happen. Bummer
True NIN rules!
glad ur back
Let's see Finck usually plays his songs live the same way it's heard on the audio.
Brutal !
Man I sooooo wish here was a studio version of this track , this may sound blasphemic but I like this version better then album version. I also think Trents slightly deeper voice sounds good in this track.
I mean...just utterly incredible
Trents voice has changed so much of the past few years...
They both have their own attributes... I enjoy Aaron & his energy but After seeing Finck so many time with NIN... Y'know...
he is doing a fucking great job with such a studio song ! It is the first time i saw this song live .. and i thought he would do it worse than that .. but he did not :) god loves nine inch nails!
@NvikIngsN I can't give you enough upvotes for this, my excitement for the YZ tv series is right next to my excitement for Half Life 3
robin finck never played this, in the cd it was reznor who played and it was never played live until now
;)coollll i love it
@Sean19a7x2
it's very difficult for him to sing live. he's constantly in his upper register and after singing it for a while he would lose his voice. this performance was actually transposed down a minor third (3 notes lower) from the original version on the fragile.
TWIGGY ON BASS!!
This is just someone in the audience with a video camera. Listen to how amazing NIN sounds. Most great bands today sound like shit even with professionals doing the audio. They are a masterpiece!!!
fuck...
simply amazing
this was for the year zero promotion. It was a free concert. Year Zero is a concept album that criticizes contemporary policies of the United States government by presenting a dystopian vision of the year 2022.
...fucking awesome...
@pierrevalois00 its a smaller venue that's why it sounds different.
You're saying that you don't like the bass player? Jordie White!? He, also is an incredible musician, I saw this lineup back in '06 and it was one of the best NIN shows I have ever been to, And I have been to quite a few, but just liek you said, "To each his own."
NIN fuckin rules. Love this song. Trent is GOD
It's really cool how everyone got REALLY silent while the frail was playing.
@vicprobey I don't think so.Every NIN song sounds awesome, listening with a high quality pair of headphones.Especially this song.
They need to make a DVD of this video. I've skimmed though the whole thing on the OSR site, and it's freaking amazing. The end reminds me of Cloverfield a bit.
Does anyone know where I can download the entire video? I would love to have the whole thing...
Wayback Machine. Thank me never.
So good...
I guess no one else noticed that he's playing this song in the key of C. It was recorded in D. Was probably easier on his voice im guessing.
@cambruoso in interviews he says that he believes in none of the and that there is no higher power, i think he references it to the term god of being completion or absolution
its a part of the year zero campaign/alternate reality game
what kind of Wah Pedal is that?
it sounds badass!!!
I'm sure it's some kind of bad horsey style high a mod overdriving whatever Badass thing is next in the chain. Likely the LP and the amp are key in the sound as well... Probably some hand wound class A boutique amp.
@Sean19a7x2 is that still happening? I havn't heard anything about it for a while.
my bad. the keys are E and D. not C and D. drop C and drop D are the guitar tunings...
@Civix666 very true
Aaron North? Are you kidding me? He's incredible...Trent picked him for a reason. And not to disagree w you twice but i thought this was a great performance. It's NIN live for God's sake!
dude, is there a fire in the building
Try 'And All That Could Have Been' off Still
It helps me when I'm down
I agree about Aaron North, I think he does a great version of The Big Come Down - I much prefer Aaron's take on that to Robin Fincks (not that I don't like Finck)
does anyone know why NIN never played this song live during the tours?
I thought I would never see them performing this song, this is the very first time I saw them performing it. I needs more energy on stage but the quality of video is great compared to all video concerts I'd seen.
anyone else going to the wolverhampton gig on august 30th?
