Really? It sounds sloppy here. Lots of effects. I think it would be hard for it not to sound good on some levels. The album version is very good. Crisp. NIN is my favorite band. I just feel like their guitars are more tone then technique. Whereas Jimi Hendrix....
Agree with Matt. It's horrible. This might be the least impressive band lineup in NIN history. I'd pay a lot to see them play it today with Robin on lead actually playing the 16ths the recording has.
@@micawbersmu I think that's a purely subjective stance It depends on how your ear is trained and your individual strengths. Some people have a penchant for tone, others technique.
I remember Trent saying he didnt play it on the fragility tour because they just couldnt get the sound right. I was surprised to find this. Sounds good to me.
I think something a lot of people don’t take into account is the strain a full 2 hour set takes on a singer. (Especially without any real intermission) It’s one thing when you’re doing 30/45 minute sets, but once you hit a level of success like NIN is at the audience expectation of longer shows goes up so much. I don’t doubt for an instant that Trent can still hit all of these songs in their original keys, but when you have to sing/scream/yell/perform 30+ songs in a row and hit every note, it becomes close to impossible to do in their original keys without a complete loss of voice for the remainder of a set, let alone the fact that the next day he has do it all again, and the next day, and the next day, and so on..another thing to think about is that this is a rock based performance. It’s not a singer just singing, it’s a singer giving himself completely, running around like an animal, screaming, etc..NIN shows are obviously a lot of work. Anywho, something to think about! Trent is in his 50’s and still putting most 20-30 year old musicians to shame with his unbelievable performances...if him lowering the key of a few songs a night means we get better, longer NIN shows/tours/career, I say who cares? Still fucking kills it every time! 🤘🏻
He actually blew his voice out recording this song so even back then he had trouble hitting those notes. This is the only song where he has trouble performing live. Still awesome.
i love this...these lyrics are a soundtrack to our incredible lives...can’t wait to do it again. we live, we die, we live again. c u on the next train in to town!

Sounds like they've lowered the key down a half step (from C# to C) which isn't uncommon for performers to do - singing repeatedly night after night on tour is very taxing on your voice and you can end up doing damage to your voice if you're straining it to hit your highest notes every night
***** if the most we can say is that he has lost the high end then so be it. Otherwise, I think he has actually gotten better as a live vocalist over the years. Way more disciplined than he used to be, just from watching some of the old vids.
Funny... everybody thinks Trent sings better in this vid than he does in the actual record. He does, but only bc theyre playing the song like a note lower. Still, fantastic song great performance
I suggest that NIN plays it early in their set and then utilise their technological nous to enhance the inherent emotional and sonic qualities and impurities of a broken voice that's inevitable after so much effort. Samplers and delay worked for Uncle Al for so many years but the technique could be used to result in an unique soundscape of Trent's imperfections. I'd rather hear spent, dissonant, gravelly tones, gradually clashing and merging into an hypnotic, dystopian loop that brings the beat back after a few minutes of various rhythmical, looping drones than no live version at all. I'd dearly love to see NIN play this live and I wish capture an official live version.
@@scheezy I was feeling self indulgent after a few too many ales. It happens sometimes. It's one of their most epic choruses and I was hoping to experience it live at the Eden Project. No one asked for it but I'm really glad that you took the time to be so eloquent and concise. It was thoroughly insightful and interesting to read.
Man haha so funny trent cant sing his own song live in the original key. Makes me feel better about my singing as my range is quite close to trents except maybe 1 or two semitones lower XD
This is like the only nin song that he can't seem to sing the same as the album. I'm sure he could if he tried but it would be hard on the voice. Plus he's not in the same mindset as he was in tge fragile so its probably harder to get into it when he's not so depressed now.
to convey the emotion they had to change the key signature, or else trent would have had to sing one octave lower, and it would not have the same impact since i would not hit the limit of his vocal range... that's why i think they transpose two semitones lower usually...
Any of these artists who push themselves in the studio is going to have to perform live in a lower register. Where the streets have no name is probably played nearly an octave lower by now 😂
This song has incredibly high notes to reach even for a young Trent. Nicely done.
This one is actually like one note drop down... but it's stills a really difficult one to sing
In the original you have to hit that gnarly A4, but I'm pretty sure they pitched it down so it's a G4 instead, making it become... POSSIBLE
Indeed
All of a sudden everyone is a vocal coach. Nobody cares......

Every time I listen to this ... it's like the 1st time hearing it ....
that's so true for this song, somehow. ever since I first saw the music video on MTV when I was 10
This has to be one of the hardest NIN vocal tracks by far

Yes definitely and I've been trying to sing along for years and still can't hit those notes 😂
This was his peak. Everything since has been irredeemable shit.
This song is so dear to me
When Those drums kick it gives me chills every time, and then Trent'S sailing voice gives me eargasms.

LYRICS!!
I've become impossible holding on to when
When everything seemed to matter more
The two of us
All used and beaten up
Watching fate as it flow down the path we
Have chose
You and me
We're in this together now
None of them can stop us now
We will make it through somehow
You and me
If the world should break in two
Until the very end of me
Until the very end of you
Awake to the sound as they peel apart the skin
They pick and they pull
Trying to get their fingers in
Well they've got to kill what we've found
Well they've got to hate what we fear
Well they've got to make it go away
Well they've got to make it disappear
The farther I fall I'm beside you
As lost as I get I will find you
The deeper the wound I'm inside you
For ever and ever I'm a part of
You and me
We're in this together now
None of them can stop us now
We will make it through somehow
You and me
If the world should break in two
Until the very end of me
Until the very end of you
All that we were is gone we have to hold on
All that we were is gone we have to hold on
When all our hope is gone we have to hold on
All that we were is gone but we can hold on
You and me
We're in this together now
None of them can stop us now
We will make it through somehow
You and me
Even after everything
You're the queen and I'm the king
Nothing else means anything

Fuck yeah
Nesta eles estão sem o Robin Finck pelo que parece.
They dropped the key a whole step haha
And?
Wow.
Why don’t they perform this song live anymore?
It's either too vocally straining or he can't hit those high notes anymore.
Apparently even in the studio version Trent had a hard time hitting the notes without damaging his throat.
In this performance they played in a different key so that Trent could hit those notes without hurting his throat
So hard for Trent to sing it...

It's not the same when he's singing it in a much lower key than on the album.
