      Same engine but different gearing. Plus the 5t has 6 wheel traction as opposed to the 4 wheels with massively wide tread

    That is a 5 ton M931A2 tractor, major difference in size power and weight between a 5 Ton and 2-1/2 ton. Though a Deuce would still likely own that other truck.

      @thebutcherofbenghazi.libya3348 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not in DIRT, with the Deuce's mil-spec NDT tires. this is a pavement contest with deeply-grooved tires (less surface-area contacting the pavement than the tires that the M923 is wearing). thus:
      APPLES TO ORANGES. *Get an offroad-modified M35 or M923, and re-do it* to see if that 3rd axle's 50% more tire surface-contact area helps -- *then do it with each truck on a 40* cross-slope whilst trying to move 30* uphill* to see our top-heavy cargo trucks aren't built FOR THE SAME PURPOSE/JOB as the lightweight-but-high-horsepower-with-bigger-tires-but-only-4-tires Baja styled trucks, slope crawlers & monstertrucks.

    Torque flowing through all 6 wheels, and it being so much lower to the ground will normally give you the win. Not to mention, having that big ass block of added weight over the rear wheels helps a lot too.

    • @NVMDSTEvil
      @NVMDSTEvil 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lower to the ground doesnt mean anything as long as the pull point is equal height on each vehicle. Fact of the matter is that this is 10,000LB on v-treads vs 15,000-20,000LB on block-treads with a paved surface... Also a 425hp N14 makes ~2200ft-lb of torque, if thats what this M939 truck really has in it that is.

  • @garronah
    @garronah 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Got nothing to do with power. And everything to do with the tread on the Cummins, which is VERY poorly suited to a flat, solid surface. The amount of rubber that actually meets the road is very little. Look at the marking of the tread when his wheels stop spinning. That tread is designed to work on a very specific surface. The 5-ton was ALWAYS going to win this. Soft, marshy ground.... Different story.

      laplante149 That 5 ton would probably still drag that dodge in 4x4, it's like Diesel Ramcharger said, it's all about weight. A empty 5 ton weighs 22,000lbs, that dodge probably weighs half that. xD

      @Slim_Slid 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Evan Burdick The M900-M939 Trucks were Built by AM General,AMG/AMC,and BMY Harsco from 1970-1999.AM General is also the Same Company that Builds the Military HMMWV's such as the M997/M998's.I think you Meant that they have GM Products as The Older and Original 5 Tons as a M900-M922 Could have a Detroit Diesel as a Option other than Cummins,and All of Them also had Air Lockers from Detroit.
      The M900-M922's from 1970-1985 were AM General,The M923-M939's from 1981-1987 were AM General also and AMG/AMC from 1981-1985.From 1987-1999,The Same Trucks were either AM General or BMY Harsco with the 1200×20 CTIS Tires,and then the M915/M916 Trucks as a A1 from 1985-1987,And then 1987-1999 as A2 CTIS were Produced by Freightliner.The M915/M916 Semi Trucks were Extended after 1985 away from AM General while the Other M900-M922 5 Tons Except the Ones I mentioned,Were Discontinued.

    These young kids and there diesel trucks make me laugh. Just because it says cummins on it does not mean in any fact that it is A semi truck. A diesel pickup may be more powerful than A gas pickup but at the end of the day thats all it is is a light weight pickup. Hooking up A Ford, Chevey, or Ram to A big rig is A no brainer the rig will win, it was built to haul stuff. And A lot of these diesel pickup builders are claiming you can pull 20 thousand pounds plus, And thats fine but try to stop or not jackknife on A wet road. The weight is not there, And military trucks are bad ass machines.

    It's not about horsepower, it's about how could you put that torque and horsepower to the ground. Old guys says you don't need a powerful tractor to work with, you need a heavy AND powerful tractor. Old rule say you need 7kgs for each horsepower otherwise you are getting nothing more than spinning wheels and your rig is going to dig itself into the ground...

      The 1952-1988 M35 Trucks all had Multifuels,They had either a LDS-465-1A or LDT-465-1A from 1952-1960/1965-1988.The M35's from 1961-1964 had a LDS-427-1A or LDT-427-1A.The Engines were Built by Continental,Hercules,and White.The Other Dueces like a M109 or M185 also had those Engines. The M35A3 Trucks and M44A1/A4 Trucks were a Little Different,Built from 1993-1999 with a 3116 CAT only.

  • @MidShipCivic
    @MidShipCivic 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Cummins couldn't pull it ever main reasons.
    1. The Cummins has a wider foot print because of those tires.
    2. It doesn't weight as much.
    3. Yes the Cummins engine is more powerful then what's in the Deuce but strength is nothing when you have NO TRACTION.

    • @LawrenceGerman
      @LawrenceGerman 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      MidShipCivic Nothing personal, do you actually believe that the engine that is in that Dodge is more powerful, or has more torque, that what's in that M939? Even if they were on a level playing field, & the Dodge had a better set of tires, and it was lower to the ground, the Dodge would still lose to the M939.

    • @MidShipCivic
      @MidShipCivic 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lawrence German You're talking over 2 decades of technology a common rail diesel they are more powerful and efficient. IF you disagree then god you're an idiot.... No. I don't believe it's a god damn fact.

    • @LawrenceGerman
      @LawrenceGerman 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      MidShipCivic Just to be clear both trucks are running Cummins engines in them. The M939 has about 645 lb feet of torque that's produced at around 1200 to 1285 RPM. The Cummins that's in the Dodge only has about 395 to 455 lb feet to the wheels. Even a brand new 2014 Dodge isn't going to out pull the M939. Simply put, the M939 is a 21,000 pound 280Hp truck that's meant to pull everything. So, for you to say that the Cummins engine is more powerful than what's in the Duece would be correct if you were talking about customized & add on power parts. Yes, that Dodge may have a 455HP engine, but power is nothing without torque.

    • @MidShipCivic
      @MidShipCivic 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lawrence German
      Do you realize that the M939 has a 14 liter engine an since when does the Cummin 6.7L make 455lb ft ? to the wheels? AT peak a 6.7L makes nearly 600lb ft. Unless you have some dyno sheets for an old M939 there is no way it will outperform a 6.7L especially with mods. P.S Do you really think the 6.7L Cummins in that truck is stock? lol

    i always get a kick out of these guys who get a LOADED dually pickup vs an UNLOADED semi tractor and really think that the pickup is mechanically stronger. Simply put a little bit of weight over the fifth wheel of the semi tractor and it will easlily outpull the pickup truck.Pickup trucks are NOT the strongest vehicles in the world. In the world of machines(locomotives, ships, earthmovers, -pickups are small tiny toys.
