**** We know to shut the fans off now in deep water*** lol.. both fans are ok on the truck. To be honest the trucks never saw above 165*-170* so they were never actually engaged. I have only heard the fan engage around 200*
FYI the MTV and FMTV have axle lockers. If I remember correctly it is in the top right area of control switches close to the steering wheel. I noticed when the bobtail had to back up not all the tires were spinning. I had some fun with these at Hood and in Iraq. Definitely under powered with a 5K water or fuel tanker attached going up any grade. Never had one stop or give out though!

Yo some how my comment disappeared. Well the that noise is letting you know something. The switch with the X’ed out fan is what you need to toggle to disengage the engine fan. On a side note I’ve have water coming in the door windows. When Ft. Campbell had that big flooding back in 1998 or 1999 when the back 40 flooded out. So they can go through some deep water.

Parker does the same with his teeth and turbo channels, it would be so easy to make it just based on being cleetus brother but he's trying to do it on his own

I see folks have already talked about the fan switch and the mode button. But haven’t seen a comment about moving the fording plug on the bell housing so you don’t fill up your bell housing with water and have your flywheel dump mud into your starter.

Put the CTIS system on sand and put the trans in manual mode by hitting mode on gear selector. Then you’ll be in 6x6… yeah the fan switch too for the deep stuff. Depends on model you can against the suspension too. I use the 1088s (bobtail) daily
Nope, LMTV's don't have on demand lockers. In fact, LMTV's have a limited slip transfer case. In "Mode" the transfer case locks to 50% front / 50% rear, whereas, the default is 30% front / 70% rear. But, the only lockers you can get for these Meritor axles is a Detroit style "lunchbox" locker.
6x6 MTv has an air locker in mode. but it does not lock axle shafts across an axle so both tires turn.... in normal operation there is a differential "BETWEEN" the two REAR axles that allows for one "whole" axle to slip. In 4wd mode the air locker locks that extra differential so the two axles in rear always spin..... though each left and right wheel on each axle still have their differential working like normal.
sorta yep about limited slip T-Case.... example if you pull either driveshaft from trans in normal AWD mode.... ... you will go no where... cause it will send all the out put to the one with massive slip (which of course will be the one where there is no driveshaft attached.) That said.. in 4x4 mode that is no longer the case.... it locks all the clutches in the trans together so their is no trans differential action any more.
So pretty much your not gonna get stuck. I’ve high centered the fmtv and I was able to get it unstuck with the on board fun flat system. These trucks are amazing and we put them thru there paces in Katrina. Amazing vehicles love all the memories I get from watching these videos

I live about 30 miles from the base in PA that has the auctions for them about 4 times a year, The wrecker versions go cheap! Sounds like a good addition to your fleet!

I used to drive these at Stewart & Stevenson in Sealy, Tx. I worked in final prep. We got them ready for the government to buy them. I would burn the brakes in and find things wrong with them. I helped r & d the hydraulic tire lower and the cab lower. I would install the gun ring on the roof too.

Im surprised neither have a winch. Most of the MC 7 tons have a rear facing winch. Im pretty sure its PTO powered and hydraulic. Maybe you could find one for these
91b here it is hydraulic powered and it's called the self recovery winch and they can either be routed to the front or the back of the vehicle finding a kit to upfit one if it doesn't already have it it's going to be impossible because that truck is been discontinued for some time.
As a 10 yr army vet and a wheel vehicle mechanic, that is your water fording warning siren. You need to look at your dash for the switch that looks like a fan with a cross. That shuts off the radiator fan during fording and prevents damage to the fan assembly. Next time, try the CTIS system. Itll deflate the tires and bulge them out for a bigger foot print
Find a 20 ton wrecker winch and mount it on the towing unit. I would go the wrecker option because they might be a little more readily available. A few straps and a block and that truck would be almost unstoppable.
That was freakin EPIC!! It’s going to be a JOB when the time comes and you get one stuck… I think you’re gonna need more than a mud truck to pull one of those out. Can’t wait to see that video when it does eventually happen. Great video!!

My great uncle said something about 4x4 will get you into trouble because 2wd you get stuck at the edge easy recovery. 4x4 you out in it aways. I was working on the front end of my tractor and i needed to load a drum on the bed of my f350 dually. I got out to area fine. Went to leave and i sunk in mud. Called nieghbor for a pull with thier tractor
Now you get to learn about replacing the fan and pressing the switch on dash to ford water more than 20" deep, and opening up the axles and diffs to remove the water and replace the lube and gaskets!

I loved our LMTV. I was in an infantry Delta company so we only had one. We used it mostly to transport shit to from ranges. But nobody wanted to drive it and pulled the "it's not listed on my licence" card (like little girls). Again I loved it, it will go wherever it fits! And when the back is full of troops it's standard operation to stab the brakes a bit too hard and launch everybody to the front of the bed :) I want one badly now.
The wires are possibly the plugs the trucks used to have PAs to talk from the cab to the troops in the back (if it is the troop carrier) but they had all speakers removed due to it killing batteries and the just kind of throw the wires wherever

These things are amazing. I think that beeping is the leveling system that tells you that you aren't level or you are at to big of an angle for it. If you want a place to really test these in my mud hole will definitely do that. I live in the place that Taylor used to but 20 minutes north east if where he lived. My mudhole is called the graveyard and it's called that for a reason it buries huge trucks like they aren't there . People from as far away as Tennessee have came here to go mudding in my mudhole. We also have 3 others that will just swallow them just going into into. Let me know if you want to come up the graveyard has 3 holes alone and each hole is at least 2 miles in square footage

Well 2 things disengage the fan clutch, top left corner of the dash. I have no clue why your low air alarm is going off it must have somthing to do with your air sensor wigging out maybe water leaking into it. Might try and take some grease and pack in the connector it’s to the right of the third air tank.
Everytime I see these trucks I see the sticker on the driver's side of the windshield that says "Sgt Johnson" and think that you should add an " 's" so it reads "Sgt's Johnson."
The buzzer is only going off because the air pressure sensor on the rear of the wet tank is getting shorted. It's a cannon plug that can be waterproofed. Easy fix.
Badass trucks we used to build them ... bogged one out once very impressive truck though. I used to build those trucks in sealy tx. I worked for that company for 7 years... I'd love to have one i remember we had to get out and swim.. That was back when stewart and stevenson had the contract now its Oshkosh. Where can I get one?
This is exactly what these things were designed to do! Get troops and supplies to areas that are un reachable. Here in New Orleans the city has a few of them set up for deep water operations after a hurricane.
Just a heads up.... many of the Gov. ones used for Katrina rescue; fastly ended up at govt. auction cause their deep water forging fubared the electronics etc.

Just pointing out that folks who buy these for civilian use... that NO...... you can not take them swimming like you see in the extreme videos without at worst major complications arising or at least expecting to disassemble / clean / reassembly ..... ton of stuff from wiring harness plug cleaning to drain, flush, replace all fluids etc. etc.
Florida "boggin" looks more like water foraging to me. I guess there is water boggin, then there is mud boggin. You have to come up north (like Ohio and Michigan) for mud boggin. I loved our LMTV. I was in an infantry Delta company so we only had one. We used it mostly to transport shit to from ranges. But nobody wanted to drive it and pulled the "it's not listed on my licence" card (like little girls). Again I loved it, it will go wherever it fits! And when the back is full of troops it's standard operation to stab the brakes a bit too hard and launch everybody to the front of the bed :) I want one badly now.
Did you check water intrusion ? in the diff or transmission, fuel tanks, do you have lockers ?

The wires are possibly the plugs the trucks used to have PAs to talk from the cab to the troops in the back (if it is the troop carrier) but they had all speakers removed due to it killing batteries and the just kind of throw the wires wherever

These things are amazing. I think that beeping is the leveling system that tells you that you aren't level or you are at to big of an angle for it.
If you want a place to really test these in my mud hole will definitely do that. I live in the place that Taylor used to but 20 minutes north east if where he lived. My mudhole is called the graveyard and it's called that for a reason it buries huge trucks like they aren't there . People from as far away as Tennessee have came here to go mudding in my mudhole. We also have 3 others that will just swallow them just going into into. Let me know if you want to come up the graveyard has 3 holes alone and each hole is at least 2 miles in square footage

Well 2 things disengage the fan clutch, top left corner of the dash. I have no clue why your low air alarm is going off it must have somthing to do with your air sensor wigging out maybe water leaking into it. Might try and take some grease and pack in the connector it’s to the right of the third air tank.
Everytime I see these trucks I see the sticker on the driver's side of the windshield that says "Sgt Johnson" and think that you should add an " 's" so it reads "Sgt's Johnson."

The buzzer is only going off because the air pressure sensor on the rear of the wet tank is getting shorted. It's a cannon plug that can be waterproofed. Easy fix.
Back in the day when I was in Korea, I used one of these as my daily driver. They are pretty slick.
Badass trucks we used to build them ... bogged one out once very impressive truck though. I used to build those trucks in sealy tx. I worked for that company for 7 years... I'd love to have one i remember we had to get out and swim..

This is exactly what these things were designed to do! Get troops and supplies to areas that are un reachable. Here in New Orleans the city has a few of them set up for deep water operations after a hurricane.
Just a heads up.... many of the Gov. ones used for Katrina rescue; fastly ended up at govt. auction cause their deep water forging fubared the electronics etc.
@@coachgeo I would imagine that they are trash. The ones Im talking about were just delivered last january and are brand new or like new. They are parked near my house and I dont know if they have been used in any water.

Just pointing out that folks who buy these for civilian use... that NO...... you can not take them swimming like you see in the extreme videos without at worst major complications arising or at least expecting to disassemble / clean / reassembly ..... ton of stuff from wiring harness plug cleaning to drain, flush, replace all fluids etc. etc.

Florida "boggin" looks more like water foraging to me. I guess there is water boggin, then there is mud boggin. You have to come up north (like Ohio and Michigan) for mud boggin. Further north Ostacruiser has that skeg that would get them bad boys stuck before the back tires are fully in! Great video JH! Keep em' coming!

When you go there anything Over like three feet hit the top left yellow switch in the dash disengages the fan
Also takes a lot of draw off the engine for more power
The buzzing / sensor it telling you to turn off the radiator fan so it doesn't destroy it
