Ava is my moms first cousin, I so was watching this on the edge of my seat when I realized, I’m about to learn about my family history.😮 Years ago when my mom told me my uncle did an ancestry family tree and found that we had ancestors that were slave owners, I got upset and didn’t want to believe it. But here it is again. And to think I stumbled upon this as an advertisement while scrolling through social media and was suddenly learning about my own family history. This really blew my mind.🤯

Us african americans have slaveowners in our ancestry which is definitely hard to bare. They took away our original language, religion and culture but not our DNA from the Continent of Africa.

Sometimes our DNA results will be a bit different than what we expect the results to look like, this is because we establish baseline ethnicity for our DNA test from contemporary people with known roots in a specific region. The 56,580 people whose DNA is used to establish baseline ethnicity is called our reference panel. What you get for your DNA results may be different than what you would expect them to be according to your family history, even histories proven through paperwork or other means.
The results of this test are entirely based upon what you've inherited from both lines of your family with the information we have collected up to date. What you do inherit from your ancestors is randomized by genetic recombination, which may be the reason for differences in what you expected to inherit. You may find additional information regarding inheritance here: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Unexpected-Ethnicity-Results
As DNA science improves, the number of regions we test for (and the countries covered in each region) may change in an attempt to narrow down the results to more precise locations. To understand how we determine your ethnicity, please view the article below: support.ancestry.com/s/article/DNA-Reference-Panel

She has white & mulatto ancestors on both sides of the family. When biracial people keep procreating primarily with other biracial people, the offspring maintain that same nearly 50/50 mixture. People get confused because people from families like this are forced to say they’re “black” because they have “two black parents” meanwhile said black parents are only half and they’re nearly as biracial as someone with a black parent and a white one. I have a distant elderly cousin who’s “black” because she has “two black parents” but she’s 73% European and looks pure white. Both her parents had to be about 1/4 or 1/3 black but because they both have a drop of black in them, she’s black & not mixed 😂 even though she’s far more mixed than the average biracial with a white parent.

I search for these reports often and really enjoy them. Although I have seen some whites pleased to have black DNA, I mostly observed them to pass over the African DNA part without much to say about it. As a DNA match, you can message these people for free to find out how you're related. Many of these matches might also have family trees that they'd be willing to share with you.
