    Is there a way that this program could feature everyday people - I love this content and have been following Dr. Gates' specials since the beginning and I can't get enough! I think it would be so cool to connect everyday folks to some of these ancestral stories and origins and perhaps even connect folks to famous relatives - I know regular people don't draw ratings, but I would love to see it

      How are you? Did you know that the English appears not to know that they brought the slave trade to America?
      Have you watched FINDING YOUR ROOTS on PBS? It's fascinating how far back they can trace a person's roots. Some of the Black guests' roots are fascinating.

    Was it his direct paternal ancestor line or some of the sideline?? At level of great-grandpas you have so many of them after all. Why showing only the slave owner and skip all other male great-great-grandpas? Thats unfair

      Certain mother, father often uncertain or unknown.
      Many people in ancient times did not record the birth of children and many women in many cultures could not name the child's father. Often you can't focus on grandfathers or great-grandfathers because legally they don't exist.

    • @xihearthe80sx
      @xihearthe80sx ปีที่แล้ว +6

      If you watch till the end with the tree, you’ll see “Leroy Odom” he’s a paternal great grandfather. Maybe they only had his name and a few details about him. They didn’t show his parents, so he’s a dead end. Obviously they know he had parents but they don’t have that info, so there’s maybe not enough information to feature him. Info is lost to time for many different reasons.

      Slaves generally didn't have their portraits taken like the white slave master. They were too busy being worked to death in the fields.

      @@lollolowski8956 because a lot of times there WAS no information about slaves, not even a name. Remember, slaves weren't even considered human beings, so it's often hard to get ANY information at all about them.
