  • Recently in the yard: While Clyde is working on the massive jaws for the boom and gaff, Luke is fitting the enormous tiller. Ned is spiling and making templates for the last bulwark planks and Jon is busy with the interior.

    Found you through Leo's Tally Ho and really hope you video the build of Pellew. There are not too many videos like these builds and this is a dying art. Looking forward to your videos.

      Thank you JJ. Unfortunately I don't live near the yard anymore, so I can only film during my rare visits. I hope to be there for the launch in February though.

      @@AndyWeimer are these boats something that would be able to be sailed around the Mediterranean Sea and could they handle the north Atlantic?

    • @AndyWeimer
      @AndyWeimer  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@Jimmy_in_Mexico yes, they would. This boat is a replica of a Pilot Cutter. These boats were built to meet the Taller ships out in the Atlantic that would need pilotage to navigate the dangerous areas around the English west coast. The jobs were offered on a first come first serve basis, so these boats had to be able to cope with all kinds of sea states and be fast at the same time.
      Luke Powell who is building this boat, has Sailed one of his other smaller boats "Agnes" (46 ') across the Atlantic. (workingsail.co.uk/agnes/)

    I hope they put ‘relieving tackle’ on the Tiller, going astern under engine, you could sweep half the crew off the deck!

    I saw an old cutter on auction and wanted to buy it! It needs fixing. Your videos are amazing. Contacts to the boats builder appreciated

      Pellew was built at www.workingsail.co.uk/ by Luke Powel. Another Shipwright that was involved was Jon Bray of westcountrycutters.co.uk/

    Do you know what the draft will be for the Pellew? I saw an aerial view of the bay and it looks like it dries out a low tide. It would be hard to imagen enough water entering to float Pellew.

      Check out the Tally Ho rebuild channel. Leo, the boatbuilder for the Tally Ho project interviews the builder of this boat. He gives all the dimensions in the interview.

      10ft. Don't worry the West Country of England has some very large tidal ranges up there with the largest in the world.
