I have an ancestor called Pellew. He got the name through the old British naval tradition of officers naming their male children with the surname of the captain they were serving with when the child was born. So it was really nice to see a reference to Capt. Pellew Keep up the good work!

great to see the Pellew so close to seeing water.
for any Australians wanting a tall ship experience, i highly recommend the Enterprise that sails from the Port of Melbourne.
My family are descended from a lady who went to Melbourne in 1937, 2 years after it was founded by John Pascoe Fawkner & John Batman.
    www.visitmelbourne.com/regions/Melbourne/Things-to-do/Outdoor-activities/Water-sports/Melbournes-Tall-Ship-Enterprize
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enterprize_(1829)
i have a copy of a newspaper article from 1905 when my ancestor was 92, describing how her husband was asked to move to Melbourne by their then neighbor Fawkner (her hubby was a master brick maker), her experiences of meeting the natives, the 1st Melbourne Cup race etc, the reporter added historical references verifying the old lady was in full command of her faculties.
i had a day trip on Port Phillip Bay with dozens of distant relatives back in 2014, and have a great photo of me sitting up in the rigging as the crew furled the sails, i made sure to do so at the end of the tour so i got to spend a good 20 minutes up there (btw i'm scared of heights, and loved every damn minute i was up there)

I was about to tear up while he was talking about how the sea hasn't changed and romance but then... "I did talk a load of bollocks" great video!

Passion and dreams are what got me started in boat building. Way before I could drive a car I was trying to build something that would float me away to never never land. Forty years ago I got a chance to apprentice to a shipwright and I haven't stopped yet. Now retired, I still have those nervous twitches if I don't have some sort of boat in the works...

Only two and a half years to get Pellew to where she is now, seems a blink of the eye for what they have achieved...Hope Leo returns to the U.K. to video the launch...Very exciting to witness, and to follow her progress..

Great project. What a wealth of knowledge generations and generations worth being passed on by Luke and Leo. Civilisation is contained. In people like this. Great opportunity for youngsters with the right genes (hands on with good brains).

Christ, that tiller is the size of the mast of the boats I’ve sailed! Bigger, I think. Lots of respect for the helmsman of the Pellew.

Please do follow up during your subsequent visits. Need to see you on the deck of Pellew under a full press of sail with the skipper bellowing instructions to swarming deck monkeys. All a preview of Tally Ho's eventual maiden voyage, of course. Eye on the prize.

Noob here - has some sort of resin/tar/pitch mix been applied to the entire deck and thus require sanding off, leaving just the seams filled? Thanks. And thanks for sharing this excellent project Leo! Enjoy the UK, eh?
I made this comment at minute like three.
The rest of this interview was absolutely incredible. What a man and what convictions! Carry on, please! Just phenomenal his words and his wisdom. Grateful for fellows like Luke and Leo who carry these things on. Really enjoyed the notions of timeliness that exist for those who live their lives aboard a wooden boat at sea. Wow.

The all mighty tree gives so much. I love woodworking, mostly traditional furniture, but have built a few small (less than 12.5 ft) tenders. I have had the desire to build a 20 ft sailing vessel for about 10 years, but haven't got past the planning stage. Luke's speech is motivating - he's right about not thinking about too much, just do it!
