One of my absolute all-time favorites on the C64. Play it while watching Agatha Christie's Hercules Poirot in "Dead on the Nile" with Peter Ustinov from 1978 and the evening is perfect. 😂😋
I remember my Dad absolutely loving Poirot... he'd watch it whenever it was on the telly. Trying to speak whilst that was on was an absolute 'No-No!'... haha good memories 😇🕹️👌
This was one of the very first C64 games I played when I started getting into emulation many moons ago. I've always been a huge fan of Poirot and Holmes, so this was perfect. The humor was spot on and it was really an excellent experience all around.
Poirot was always on in this household... my Dad loved the Belgian little feller. Superb game with plenty of really fun moments. Dare I say - a classic Commodore 64 title 😇🕹️👌
Wow! How did I miss this one? This looks right up my alley! The playstyle, combined with how you question people and collect evidence, sounds like a mashup of Maniac Mansion and Ace Attorney! I definitely need to give this a try!
I was always saving this game at every opportunity, especially right before opening any doors - I was too used to being 'insta killed' and having to retrace my steps. Good memories playing this though as a kid and really enjoyed revisiting it again 😇🕹️👌
I love both the graphics on presentation here, the accompanying music, as well as the unexpected dynamic between the investigators you control. This also really reminds me of Sierra’s “The Colonel’s Bequest”, designed by Roberta Williams.
Oh man, this is something I would have loved back in the days. I really enjoyed games like The Detective and Cruise for a corpse. Will try to find this one.❤
Superb isn't it, apart from the ill-fated insta-deaths that occur out of the blue sometimes. Always good to keep a save file handy before going into ANY of those darned cabins 😇🕹️👌
I have never played this Commodore 64 game before, but i do remember seeing, when one of my old school friends played this game on one of the Commodore 64's in our old elementary school somewhere in the early 1990's. It still looks challenging. Also, it reminds me of playing GRIMBLOOD on my Amiga 500 somewhere in the early and mid 2010's. That was so challenging, i have never finished the whole game at all 😹. David Whittaker plays an excellent soundtrack 🎵🎶 in that Amiga game 😺👍🕹️.
Definitely worth a revisit although I tried playing it through to th end and forgot what to do a few times 😄 many years since I last played it but thoroughly enjoyed it all again 😆🕹👌
Pretty sure I had 'Hugo' games on the Amiga back in the day, but the language was either German or Danish so I didn't have a clue what was going on! Haha, I need to play those games again 😇🕹️👌
Looks interesting. Love the graphics. Anything ever close to a murder mystery I have played was Frankie Goes to Hollywood, which was very obscure and unique in a good way.
Haha, the ultimate detective game... where everyone literally speaks a different language! You'd be a legend if you managed to figure out who did it! 😇🕹️👌
These animated stories driven by text choices were what I thought was the final evolution of the pure text based RPG. I still like Zork though. But this was great too. The oracle greets you. 😂
I love the Zork trilogy of games, I actually have a video of that on the channel too - superb games were't they th-cam.com/video/wzHq-WTlw3I/w-d-xo.html 😇🕹️👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer I still remember the extreme conflict of emotions that I felt the first time I was asked how many virgins I wanted to sacrifice to the oracle at Delphi. I only knew what a few of those words meant, and I didn't think that was what you were supposed to do with any of them. 😂
It's superb... but you need to invest a good few hours into it. Definitely one for those 'Right, I'm going to get into a proper aventure tonight' sort of games. Few tinnys optional 😇🕹️👌
A really outstanding game! 👍 Another interesting investigation game is 'Murder on the Zinderneuf', although it's graphically not nearly as good as this one. 😉
This is one I’ve actually played for a bit. I found the interface somewhat kludgy compared to Sierra and Sierra-esque titles, but recognized that it had potential. I should revisit this and just power through it. Are there any other similar adventure titles you’d recommend, especially if they aren’t cross-platform?
Definitely try it again, but reserve some time for it... takes a while to get into, but the immersive gameplay is worth the investment. I'd play Cruise For A Corpse if you like this style of game... but that was over on the Amiga 😇🕹️👌
This was a great idea but I defy anyone to finish this without a walkthrough. The things you have to do are too specific like selecting the correct words from your notepad and showing them to the correct person. Even Hercule Poirot would rage quit if he played this.
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer I seen that already😊 Caverns of Khafka was my first orginal C64 tape game. And it was really strange. Even more strange when watch second level at long play :) Siren City would be interesting too. Then there was that New York game and never understand what to do😊

Yeah definitely give it a try, I'd say it was a 'must' for adventure fans 😇🕹👌
Love this game, i remember my copy having a bug, often would just freeze. Saving regularly. Great game
I was always saving this game at every opportunity, especially right before opening any doors - I was too used to being 'insta killed' and having to retrace my steps. Good memories playing this though as a kid and really enjoyed revisiting it again 😇🕹️👌
I love everything detective related and this is one of the best detective games on the 64!
I agree, superb game... I did die a lot though so I'm glad I kept saving the game 😇🕹👌
I love both the graphics on presentation here, the accompanying music, as well as the unexpected dynamic between the investigators you control. This also really reminds me of Sierra’s “The Colonel’s Bequest”, designed by Roberta Williams.
Superb game isn't it, very atmospheric 😇🕹️👌
Reminds me of "The Detective".
Ahh yes! Another classic... thats from one of my favourite developers too at Argus Press! Definitely need to play that again sometime soon 😇🕹️👌
All this in just 64k? Mindblowing!
It never ceases to amaze me just how superb the Commodore 64 really was, and still is 😇🕹️👌
YES YES YES!!!!! Thank you for making this video. I only asked you like 4 times! Thank you my friend!
I always get there... in the end 😇🕹️👌
Oh man, this is something I would have loved back in the days. I really enjoyed games like The Detective and Cruise for a corpse. Will try to find this one.❤
Those games you mentioned are also legendary - I think you'll enjoy this one too 😇🕹👌
Always returned to this impressively atmospheric game.
*walks down stairs
Quite an achievement for its time.

had fun playing this back in the day , not sure i did complete it though maybe time to revisit this again :)
Definitely worth a revisit although I tried playing it through to th end and forgot what to do a few times 😄 many years since I last played it but thoroughly enjoyed it all again 😆🕹👌
I love point and click adventures and games like the Hugo Trilogy. I'll definitely be giving this a look.
Pretty sure I had 'Hugo' games on the Amiga back in the day, but the language was either German or Danish so I didn't have a clue what was going on! Haha, I need to play those games again 😇🕹️👌
Bit like an early version of the Amiga game 'Cruise for a corpse '
Absolutely, a precursor you could almost say. Superb games... this one was full of humour too 😇🕹️👌
I loved this game so much! The fact there was a german version was the icing on the cake!
I believe that it was a really popular game in Germany too yeah 😇🕹👌
Looks interesting. Love the graphics. Anything ever close to a murder mystery I have played was Frankie Goes to Hollywood, which was very obscure and unique in a good way.
Frankie is a great game too isn't it - have you checked out the review on the channel? 😇🕹️👌th-cam.com/video/cTjTSTn_EOo/w-d-xo.html
reminds me of the detective game which I loved
Yeah a couple have mentioned that game to me - definitely need to stick it on the list 😇🕹️👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer yeah, I hope you get to it, lot's I want to know about it
The story of the German release is quite interesting 🤫
Is that the Boris Schneider-Johne story? 😇🕹️👌
I had a cart of this for the famicom, didn't have a clue what I was doing it was all in Japanese 😂
Haha, the ultimate detective game... where everyone literally speaks a different language! You'd be a legend if you managed to figure out who did it! 😇🕹️👌
This was good but "Killed Until Dead" was even better!
Accolade were the masters in my opinion - that game had a very similar vibe to 'Law Of The West' too 😇🕹️👌
Never heard of this it looks brilliant
Superb game, definitely give it a whirl! The only downside was the 'insta-deaths' so save the game regularly! 😇🕹️👌

Another game from the absolutely superb Paul Reiche III 😇🕹️👌
I'm the guilty one, I have to admit... of not having played this gem of a game that is!
There is no time like the present - get it fired up and give it a whirl 😇🕹️👌

Very true... you need to be quite specific, however there are four possible outcomes 😇🕹👌
New York City. Even I watch long play video I don’t understand what’s happening😂
It does get very Involving and immersive 😇🕹👌
This game has that classic movie feel that only old farts like us will remember
Absolutely, count me in on the 'old farts' list too... love this game 😇🕹️👌
Hi! It might be a nice idea to also review C64 Killed Until Dead. :)
Someday, 100% 😇🕹️👌
Looking forward to that! 🙃 Love your vids! 😎@@CheekyCommodoreGamer
fiction games like this are awesome, even when they go so far as to try to convince an audience there was a murder in the USA. That NEVER happens!
It's an additional extra for those who like to cruise 😇🕹️👌
How about some Cosmi games like Caverns Of Khafka…
How about some Forbidden Forest to keep you going 🤣th-cam.com/video/wflinqetl14/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CC4FDKgDSY82MPRO 😁🕹👌

I think I played this.
Possible spoilers
Doesn't Sir Charles get killed?
Sir Charles can be killed in multiple ways... as for the ending, well - I wouldnt want to spoil that 😇🕹️👌
