      @Belial 777 you can Google the USDA nutrient database for common whole, unprocessed foods like fruits, veggies, whole grains, and meats, but the easiest way is to look them up in a nutrition tracking app like Cronometer (that’s the one he recommends).

    Hi Dustin. So if my raw meat was 500gram and cooked was 307g, then I go 500 divide by 307 = 1.62
    If I want to serve myself 100gram of this cooked meat then I would go 100 x 1.62 = 162grams meaning that in my fitness pal instead of putting in 100grams, I would change it to 162grams of ‘raw’. Is this correct?

    • @Musician0489
      @Musician0489 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds correct! Since there is a loss in water retention, 162 would be the actual number you would measure out on the scale and add to your fitness tracker.

    Every week I cook oatmeal in bulk to use for breakfast. When cooking the oatmeal, I boil it it almond milk, rather than water. Much of the milk boils off in the process, however the end product is still heavier than it would be otherwise. What is the best method for calculating the final calory content of the oatmeal?

    But some food items change shape when you cook them they can even change in weight like for example the way I cook tempeh is I like to boil it in water, when it's done boiling it feels heavier like it absorbs water and it grows in size, raw tempeh weighs less than cooked boiled tempeh, so in a case like this would it be better to weigh my tempeh before or after I boil it?

    Calorie counting is not a perfect science when you are tracking outside of a laboratory setting. The calorie content changes once a food is cooked as well. The key is to pick a tracking method (cooked / uncooked) stick with it and adjust your numbers accordingly.
