Thanks for the Fig update Alicia. Dear dear boy. We had a beautiful old Lab fella Dougall who had seizures towards the end of his life with us. A very scary time for all. Lots of love for your beautiful Fig (and for you and Brian too). I love that you’re trying a ring bound system as your planner. I have been a Filofax user for years and years and years and I love the flexibility within the system. I hope you find your new one very useful. I don’t think I’ve heard of the DaVinci binder but it looks to be similar in size to the compact personal size in a Filofax. A very handy and portable size. I was writing in the B6 slim for a couple years and then moved onto to A6 but the Travelers Standard size has always been my favorite. I also have a couple onion skin journals that I’ll try at some point. I used to have a typewriter and now I wish I still had it, I may have to look around for a good used one.

I love that book! In my opinion it's the best one she's written, and the one that I've recommended to people. I am so, so sorry that Fig is suffering with seizures, I hope that Fig will recover and never have any more seizures! As a mother of a child who has a seizure disorder I understand how scary it is to watch seizures (my daughter is stable and doing well).

I rescued an abused chihuahua mix around 2010 who had seizures. So scary, especially in the beginning, but they were mostly short ones. Eventually they started getting longer and my vet put him on phenobarbital, which really helped. Poor little guy got canine cognitive dysfunction (dementia) towards the end, which was really sad….but with medication, the seizures were manageable. Hoping for the best for Fig.
BABEL is, hands down, my favourite book I've read this year. It checks all the boxes (languages, academia, diverse and interesting characters, a compelling story, (post)colonial criticism and more) and I love to hear that you like it so much, too. (I found your channel for a second time a few days ago and you kinda sorta dragged me right down into the rabbit hole that is journaling, fountain pens, knitting (still need to learn!) and really anything you do. I was surprised to find out you're a teacher, because, guess what! I'm currently studying to become one as well
Oh, and sorry to hear about Fig. :( One of my dear friends has a dog, Frida, that might be about the same type of dog Fig is and she's also suffering seizures. Frida is a little fighter and going strong from day to day. I wish only the best of recovery for you and Fig
I’m so sorry to hear about Fig. We had a Labrador retriever who started to have seizures when she was about 6 or 7 years old. We monitored her until one day she had 12 seizures in less than 24 hours. She ended up on potassium bromide (KBroVet, I believe) for the rest of her long life. She didn’t have any other seizures after being on KBr. She lived to be 14 years old. I was so frightened when she had her first seizure which was on a Sunday morning. I thought it lasted for minutes but it was less than 30 seconds long. Our dogs are members of our family and we want them to live long, healthy lives. It’s really hard when they are sick. I hope that Fig continues to recover. ❤️🩹

I really like that typing table! I wish I'd gone with something like that as a desk. Sorry to hear about Fig. We can tell when something is wrong with an animal, but they can't really tell us, especially when there may have been symptoms before. Hopefully the medication works.
My dog was napping and heard the squeaky toy in the video, and popped her head up, with her ears perked up lol... It was funny to watch, haha 😆 I’m so sorry that happened to Fig. He’s in my prayers.
Ring systems for the win! I have a few of them and still figuring out what I like best for what uses. I've made a few videos about them but always looking for other choices and options, so I'll check out the DaVinci from Yoseka Stationary. I have a William Hannah A5 and a Plotter mini 6, and a few generic A5 leather binders too. Apparently I like leather and the ability to move pages around :) So glad that Fig is doing okay, poor guy. I'm sure he will adjust to his vision changes, but it will definitely take time. Glad you have him back home.

I recall in one of your past vids that you used a ringed notebook where you typed out pages and hole punched them and placed them in that book. Maybe you'll do the same for this round of journaling too?
I hope that Fig will recover over time. I know how much he means to you, and it is always difficult for people when they see their pets are having health issues. Take care of yourself, and get plenty of rest. He knows how much you care for him.

I've tried Paperblancs (could not get used to their layout), I now have a Hobonichi Weeks (it's cute, but not my favourite), and I am thinking to try out a Leuchtturm (pocket size) 1 week-2 pages planner (bonus is that it would fit in a cover).. but I just haven't been excited for anything that I've come across so far. Hi Alicia! I bought the same daVinci binder from Yoseka, and I was even using the same pen with it :D . I love the form factor and the leather, but the darn thing will not loosen up at all! I have to bend it back to get it to lay flat. But when I do that there's an extra leather bump created near the spine and it's just sort of uncomfortable overall. Have you noticed this, is it bothering you, or have you found a way to deal with it? I already had been using a PLOTTER so I've just gone back to that for now, They're so much more loose and lay flat super easily, but I wish I could enjoy the DaVinci binder too... I like the pockets and the style! I'd love to hear more in-depth thoughts about it if you're ever in the mood. :) Thanks!
So sorry to hear about Fig but I'm elated to hear that he is home and recuperating. Please give Fig a virtual belly rub for me. A while ago I mentioned to you in a comment that you inspired me to try a new notebook format, the Midori B6 Slim to be precise, and that I had some doubts about that as I had been using the Midori MD A5 for years and questioned if the B6 Slim would be too confining for me, especially for my handwriting. I am pleased to tell you that I am really loving the B6 Slim and that I am almost done with the first one and I have already placed an order for two more and I have you to thank for that and so, thank you :)
I hope Fig continues to improve with his medication. I would have been unable to do anything except binge-watch yt while waiting for the vet's progress report.

Nothing compares, not even Pens, to a friend like a dog, nothing at all. Your writing status reminds me the short Melville's Bartleby de Scrivener and a nice book from Vila-Matas "Bartleby y compañía". Finally guess your tiping posture IS not the BEST for your back and you need to have that back strong to manage fig that seems to be heavy ... or not. Be Well and thanks. Cheers
With all the reading,writing and knitting looking after you’re eye health should be important,and yes a more detailed planner review would be appreciated,the stationery world seems to be on a Hobonichi overkill this time of year
I know, I do worry. And for my hands as well. I’ve been doing some hand exercises, but haven’t made a habit for eye exercises yet. And yes, lots and lots of Hobonichi talk right now!

I had to stop when you began talking about Fig‘s seizure. Our little dog had a seizure right in front of us caused by heart failure, which was probably caused by fireworks. I still can‘t think about it-it makes my heart hurt.
