    Ultimate Steve and I actually worked together, and were able to cut the mass of this craft nearly in half.

    Ultimate Steve has surpassed this record with the incredible 'Magnum Opus' at only 11.5 tons!
    I think I can claw back a few hundred kg from this, but not enough to merit re-flying this mission.

    Very cool mission, well done. Stock optimization is always neat to see. Eve "helicopter" is interesting.

    Totally inspired me to go replicate this mission! Love the idea of an extremely light weight craft being able to travel most of the solar system.

    How'd you execute the burn at 2:15? Also, I never knew you could use the inventory to get more delta V from the kerbal. Cool optimization!

      If you mean the Pol circularization burn, I made heavy use of Mechjeb’s maneuver node editor, which includes a function to automatically execute maneuvers. In previous videos, I’ve demonstrated that I can get more efficient maneuvering by hand, and I hand-fly all the ascents and landings in this mission, but there were so many maneuvers that it was much easier to press auto-execute and do something else in the background.

    Proxima, do you know how to enable scatters on Ike and Dres, I had a problem with parallax. When I downloaded it, there were no scatters on Ike and Dres and at the same time I had the already made settings in the mod, set the terrain graphics to required parametres

    Insane mission completed in a modest 51 years, great work as always!
    On another note, do you have any plans to do any crazy missions in KSP 2 when it releases?

      It was actually far longer than 51 years - the mission timer will reset when undocking the craft. Mainly because of the Dres and Eeloo segments, the mission took over two hundred years to complete (which is about 50 Earth years, but still a long time.)
      When KSP 2 launches, I would like to do a community grand tour, and also do a minimalist Ovin return mission.

      @@proxima_fish Considering that interstellar travel is now a possibility in KSP 2, I'm really curious to see what a "minimalist" interstellar mission could look like, or if it'd even be possible at all.

      @@dynamx767 I think we all are. :) I'm sure Jool will be a great help in ejecting craft from the Kerbol system. So it would look like... KEKK perhaps to get to Jool, then instead of using Tylo to capture, approache Jool in a way that will fling the craft out of the system. Multiple Jool passes may be useful. Oh by the way, the need to eject at a certain angle could complicate the assists needed to get to Jool. That could be interesting.
      ... Did I just spoil minimalist missions for KSP2? XD
      Will KSP2 have another gas giant in the Kerbol system, like the outer planets mod? If it does, that could make ejections really interesting.

    Rivetting edits and I love the music, but I found it hard to keep track of where we were. After the Eve landing, I assumed a slightly reddish planet to be Moho, but on ascent there was a huge black sphere in its sky. Actually... I think that's the only thing which can't be explained by gravity assists.

      Moho was after Eve. The big black sphere is a visual glitch.

    Very nice, however I doubt the legitimacy in some parts such as the laythe landing, Or the Eve section as those fins would absolutely overheat

      I’ve explained it multiple times to you already, and also provided further explanation in my linked forum post.
      For the Laythe landing, I used the fact that landing gear only fail based on vertical velocity of an impact. This means that if I impact with modest vertical velocity, the landing gear springs will bounce me into the air. From there, I can repeat the process (note that as energy is conserved, any further impacts will be at an equal or lesser vertical speed and thus survivable), and attempt the landing 15-20 times until I happen to get lucky with landing on the wheels.
      For the Eve reentry, I used an odd fact about KSP’s thermal model - with warp rates above 10, the game calculates heat spread between all of the craft’s parts instead of each part individually. The heat from the basic fins is thus spread to the more heat tolerant fuel tanks and engines. Additionally, I keep the rotors spinning, because KSP’s occlusion model lets the fins alternately heat up and cool down. Even with these tricks and a shallow reentry, the fins almost explode.
