Glad I stumbled on your page, as that was one of the best breakdown videos . Love how you explained everything super clear, the plus & minus & didn't over hype the product. Ill be checking out more of your channel !
Nice video, as ever. I'm really tempted by this lens - the 2.8 16-35mm GM is rather big and heavy for my needs - I shoot landscape and often carry gear backcountry. Plus its not cheap! Other than the 14mm GM (boy do I love that lens!) I have been using the Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 after testing it side by side with the Sony 16-35mm GM for a week. Whilst I like this lens and it has served me well, I really don't need or use it wide open, so I'm wondering whether the new Sony 16-35 f4 might be a good option, giving me a bit more reach at the high end. Does it match or exceed the Tamron 17-28mm in sharpness, for instance?
Looks like a great video option - Sony adding zoom functionality using their focus tech is pretty cool. Really like what this says about Sony’s forward thinking. Just not probably a lens I’d use as I’m not a video shooter. Image quality is impressive; all your recent videos haven’t varied at all. Great dolly-zoom use, too!
So can I assign zooming in and out to 2 of the function buttons with this lens? So I can zoom it without touching the lens at all? Why you might ask, well that would be very handy for inside an underwater housing!
While I almost never shoot video I'm a big fan of small lenses; the size benefits of a power zoom like this seem great! Maybe Sony could remake their 24-70 f/4 and 70-200 f/4 in this style as well.
I'm with you on the f4 for talking heads although I see a lot of 1.4, 1.8 or whatever on TH-cam. If you've invested in a bright lens you have to run it wide open, I guess :)
I am planning to buy this lens if and when I can get it. I put an order in to my local camera shop. I heard it won't be released until July. I hope they do other lenses with the PZ feature and reduced weight. Zooming is so out of fashion with the video elites, but I like the effect in many situations. Be damn the sobs.
One of the best TH-camr outer I’m really admire your presentation very clear No commercials no heydudes no hi folks , no khe , no preset, straight to the point ,thank you so much for that 🤙
I think it means that if you focus then zoom in or out, it still keeps being in focus. Problem with lots of lenses is that if you zoom in then out to get bigger wider view then you usually have to re press the shutter to refocus
i really am not a big fan of the super wide focal length myself i think anything below 24mm might be pushing a bit much as you will end up getting a lot more distortion but hey some people love it so lol
"most alpha shooters are hybrid" yeah I can see that might turn them off from the lens in Sony's lineup that's clearly made specifically for the hybrid shooter. That was /s just to be clear.
I think you are way long. Lots of people will think this lens is a bargain. Sony is showing how it is the most advance thinking and original company. They just keep making products that Canon and Nikon don’t do. Like That focus breathing minimizer on one of their cameras. It shows to people how truly advanced Sony is and also how they were the first with animal eye tracking and so on for wildlife and honestly cat pet photographers. Silly as it might have seemed at first, they have real life uses
I’ve been a subscriber for 6 months and I really enjoy your style and format. Thanks for for sharing.

Always enjoy your video, thank you from Japan.
a genuine wow lens. Much better than you might think - sharp, optically very good.

I agree!
Hey Ted, do you have any workshops coming up?
Quite torn. On one hand it is quite a useful tool. On the other, I’m not sure if I want to trade OSS for PZ.

Bokeh, bokeh all day lol
When I take portraits I tend to stop down to get the face in focus. F3.5 to F5.6. For identity cards, F8 or it may fail requirements for the card.
I can see this benefiting Sony users who plan to use their camera with the Sony AirPeak drone system.
That was the remote that you use in the video ?
I might trade my 16-35 F2.8 GM for this lens. The compact size and lightness opens new possibilities and I would use the power zoom in videos
Sir which Is best lens for nikon z50 under 25k
Nikon Z 40mm f2

I might trade my 12-24 f4 for this. I like the aperture ring being declickable and there plus this auto zoom being able to use with remote.
A very intersting lens for video first Sony users. You're gonna need a bigger camera bag.
Price??
Thank you.

Vielen Dank! Grüße aus Deutschland 🇩🇪
Is it parfocal?
Almost completely. Very slight at the wide as you zoom in.

Nice Sir🙂✌️
Certainly good for Gimbal use in terms of balance
I notice how everyone that has reviewed this lens tends to sign off on a non committal vibe on it.
Every time you do a review I go but something. Thanks, I guess…😉

that's gonna be bad for battery life i guess
I have the APSC 18105G PZ lens. It's fine for battery. You don't zoom all the time.
My favorite lens for youtube video in ef 17-40 f/4. But for photos 24-104 f/4😎👍
Lol!
That is massive and at F4, I don't think it will sell many. I believe most alpha shooters are hybrid and will not like to log this beast around.
Massive? Its about 4 inches long…
@@theartofphotography That's what she said.
I'm sorry, and ashamed...
I left that one hanging over the plate ;-)
