A very good appreciation of both headphones... the comparisons were extremely detailed, and offered huge amounts of information. You are a very fluent and articulate speaker, and you did not fluff one word... do you work in the media? very good screen presence too. Great appreciation, thank you, very helpful. I have a Sennheiser HD 600 that I connect to a Yamaha RX 479 stereo receiver with a USB lightning cable to my iPad. To me it sounds clear, natural, vibrant, dynamic. I know if I spent more money I could probably blow my mind, but I’m so happy with what I have.
I've owned both and the differences are quite subtle for beginners at least. My preference though is the 600, which has a less warm and more snappy tonality to it. Can't go wrong with either. Cheers!
Quick warning, man do these sound flat :) They won't blow you away at first but the more you'll listen to them, the more will you realize just how well it's tuned. No boomy bass, no hollow mids, no peaky treble, no listening fatigue. It just works! I would have preferred more soundstage and bass extension but oh well. That's what we get here.
Actually, they do have boomy bass unfortunately which is why I don't own the HD650 myself. The ER4 does similar things but is more precise and has no bass bloat.
i partly agree with you but for me i always want a little more bass. maybe im spoiled because i have upgraded to some really high end headphones but the only thing i want out of the 650 is more bass presence.
@@chefgav1 I don’t hear “veiled,” I hear “smooth” and “pleasant” and “3 blob” isn’t how I perceive it, either, although I understand why that’s said of them 🤗
Just invested in a pair of HD600s with a dac/amp having come from using a cheap closed off pair of headphones. I remember a friend a few years back showing me a pair of expensive headphones which had really nice clarity with vocals and instruments. Regardless of all the minor differences between the 650 and 600, I'm in for a treat when they arrive, ready to give so many songs another listen.
I‘ve got the HD600 as well. Even though I also have Grado GH2, Denon 9200, Audeze LCD2 Classics among my headphones I still listen to the HD600 the most. Great sound and, what‘s equally important, super light. On my tube amp they are sonically still amazing.
I bought the 650 because I kept hearing it being described as "smooth" which makes me very excited. Your description of the 650s also explain why they call it smooth. Well done, I was able to follow it very well as a noob
@@demon-ll9eg both of them are a great choice and both of them sound astonishingly natural and detailed. It is only a matter of preference between a mid-highs oriented (but still relaxed and natural) sound (HD600), or a warmer more deep sound signature (that's also very relaxed and natural) (HD650). Also don't be afraid to choose the "wrong one". I actually bought the HD650 and then tried the HD600 wish i actually prefered, but that did not make me regret buying the HD650, because they still are amazing and still share 90% of the DNA of the HD600😉
im a composer/producer and im geting the 650 (never tried both), but what i learned with experiencie, is that headphones too flat became boring, and to have a real juicy one is the way to go, since you're more in love with music with the juicy ones. But, at the same time, the 650 seems legit for producers as well (hability to be super confort + really hearing the details)
Probably one of the best descriptions of their sound signature and strengths/weaknesses that I have heard. These are both great headphones. But their weaknesses in the lower frequencies and upper midrange/lower treble make me enjoy them more at lower volumes. They excel in very neutral, balanced frequency delivery at lower volumes. But as volume increases, their weaknesses become more pronounced and detract from my enjoyment of them.
I've never found the need to use high gain on the Atom with a 650 or 600. For me, it easily powers them on low gain. I was surprised you mentioned using it on high gain.
@@simongibbons2148 I'm at high gain at about 11-12oclock on the HD600 and the Atom. Maybe I like my music louder than some, but you tend to get best tonality and thump at that volume. It works out at about 80db. Loud yes, but not damaging.
Yeah, when he said that I got worried as I just ordered the HD600 to use with my Schiit Magni 3. I do usually use it on high gain with my HE400se but I thought the dynamic would be easier to drive.
Have had both for 15 plus years. I had a dozen or so Headphones and sold most of them. Comfort actually makes the decision and the hds are the most comfortable. Solid State Dac HD600, Tube amp HD650. 99% prefer the HD600.
Loving my HD650 with my X7 external DAC/AMP (sound blaster) for years now! Its so super comfortable, but also its able to handle good (loseless) music and immersion in gaming. First time for me with this headphone that I was able to hear the quality in different loseless music files.
So now we know which headphones you use when modding skyrim :) ! I was scrolling and saw you in the comments and thought " Ιs that him ? ".Nice videos ! By the way we have similar setup , I also use the X7 but with HD600.
Which DAC or amp would you recommend to use with the HD650? My intergrated Rotel amp got a built in DAC, should I need an external one too? Do you use any EQ in your set up?
Being a musician... and having played in various rooms/ venues which causes variations in how the instruments will sound.. I felt that the HD 650 produced a very credible sound for how real music can sound in certain rooms.. That is what impressed me the most. The original sound may have been different. But what I hear is pleasingly well defined and realistic...
thanks for the video. love these revisit video specially when there is a revise in packaging so that buyer will be aware, and made in "different country". :)
Excellent review. Thanks. I like 60s jazz, so maybe the 650s would suit me better. I like that you leave it up to the listener as this is clearly a matter of personal taste.
Great review! I want to find the best headphone for vocals, mids. What do you think? Which is the best? Hd650, Lcd2/3 fazor, prefazor, Monolith 1060c open mod, Argon mk3? Do you have any suggestion? Please?🙂
for gaming go for 650 (basshead edm) and for music ( orchestra and opera ) go for 600 note : hd 650 is not mainly focusing on bass alone it just has that extra desired bass
I started out with HD560s, and they produced a nice sound. They’re clear and articulate, with a very full sound throughout the frequency range. However, I had a chance to try a pair of HD600’s, and I quickly knew they were the right headphones for my ears. The HD600’s have a better precise center image, and offer a more relaxed detailed sound compared to the HD 560s. Although, the HD 560’s might possibly be a better technically sounding headphone, I enjoy music much more out of the HD 600. Also, the build quality of the HD 600, is also more superior, and is really a joy to reach for to put on my head. The HD600 has great synergy with my Chord Mojo dac amp.
Similar story here, 560s few month ago, hifiman sundara not so long ago. Then i came across with used Mojo and now i ordered hd 600 from sale for 259e.... I think im happy for a while now😅
As always thanks for the review! Im new on this HI FI world. How Black Friday works for these types of headphones? Hifiman, focal, beyrdynamic, sennheier etc.. do we normally have good deals? Should i wait?

@@francoisrochette3808 I had no Idea about model 2 and 3. My 6xx was the first edition from drop I pre ordered them back in the day. I guess that's why.
The HD58x has pretty similar tonality compared to the hd650. It has a bit more bass extension but is less detailed and the treble isn’t as smooth and sounds almost grainy.
They have made these for so long because they are classics ! Have hooked the 650 up to some expensive gear and they do scale nicely as folks have said. But it's not a requirement with these. There pair wonderfully with some centrance dac amp combo such as the hifim8. One thing that was left out of this review is how well these pair with tube amps and in particular otl tube amps. Some of the best synergy out there and not a huge amount of money. Pair these with a bottlehead crack otl tube amp and a decent dac and your in heaven😀
My Rotel intergrated amp got a build in DAC, should I still need to buy an external DAC and run it through the Rotel and then connect the HD650 to the amp? I saw an Cambridge DACMagic 200M DAC/AMP that the reviews are awesome. If I buy this, I don't need the Rotel then.
I own a HD600 and spent the weekend demo-ing the HD560S, Aeolus, ibasso GR2 and HD650 in store. Tons of fun, with the HD560S being so close to the HD600 for almost half the price. Really liked the 560S despite its flimsy build and less aftermarket support for earcups. Sounded nice both amped and unamped. Easy WFH headphone recommendation.
I'm looking at buying my second set of headphones and I'm stuck between the HD650 & 560S you can pick 560S new cheaper then a second hand pair of 650's would you say the 560s are that good if not better?
@@j-mals I didn't like the HD650 at all. The 560S had a pretty good sound that came close to the HD600. I'd pick the new 560S. Only downside is the build is slightly less firm. And the earpads aren't the same size as HD650 which can be easily bought/replaced
I’m a musician mixer. I have not tried the hd600 or heard the hd400 pro which is just a redesigned 560s. Keeping mixing in mind are they that close? It seems the 560s/400Pros have an extended neutral bass reach.
@@h-dawg6462 the earpads on 560S are not the same as HD600/650. They are not interchangeable. You can find replacement pads for HD600/650 more easily simply because it's an older more popular headphone. Same with the balanced cable. The build between the 2 series is different too. HD600/650 is much sturdier.
Can you guys please leave the name of the reviewer on the video title? Now that there are 2 reviewers on the channel, seemingly with overlapping reviews, it's rather confusing to navigate and rewatch reviews for research purposes. A bracket with either Andrew or Chrono written in it would suffice.
I just got a classic original HD 580 the other month for about 100€ and after replacing the pads and headband cushion I'm honestly really surprised how good it sounds even out of a FiiO Q1 II, which is the only amp I have right now - moving in a couple days and taking my NFB-11 out of storage, really curious to hear how this livens up beyond what it already is. Already happy with it as it is though, will make a great compliment to my TH-610.
Hello, I am completely new to the audiophile scene. I usually listen to jazz and classic rock (Beatles, CCR, Eagles and stuff) and would like to know which of these would be better suited for such type of music? I currently use Shure 215 and Bose QC35ii if that helps. Thank you.
Dude, I gotta say I own both, modified both. Got a copper weight from custom cans, removed the foam from behind the driver, the foam from inside the ear cup that is in front of the driver and sewed nylon to the back of the ear pads. The weight gives it more low end and removing the foam lets the driver breathe a little more and opens the sound stage up a little. Also I got a balanced cable off Amazon, ya can probably get a balanced cable for either for less than I did. I dumped about $70 more bucks into each and this brought them both to life. When I say they have more low end, not like Skullcandy kind of low end but a more true low end. The 600 is what audiophiles would call "analytical" or whatever, I'd just say that the low mids and mids on the 650 are slightly exaggerated, I mean slightly. Not fuzzy...softer maybe. I like them both. I don't think you'd be disappointed with either if you can find a deal on one or the other. Yeah I think Sennheiser sells a balanced cable for the 660S that will fit the 600/650 for super cheap. The balanced cable is worth it. Balanced gets a little more power out of your amp, so there is a volume jump. I don't think it's just a volume jump either, it's clarity as well. I do tend to find myself leaning more towards the 600, but I'd cry if either got lost/stolen/broken and have to replace either
@@tatteredhope911 comparing 600 series to headphones with high resolution they end up sounding veiled all of them, timbre and presentation of mid range is very good but thats it
My impressions of the HD6xx are that they are always comfortable and fairly inoffensive. I do think the mids are slightly too forward for my preference (guitars for me, specifically), but nowhere near offensive. The bass does roll off pretty quick. I do notice a bit of a muffled response compared to more resolving headphones (i.e. LCD-1). I do need to try out the 600 and 660s models some time. The 660 might be my next pair of headphones. I do wish they had a little broader soundstage and better imaging.
Have you seen DMS revisiting the 6XX? He says it is the pair of headphones he uses the most, yet he doesn't speak so highly of the 660s. He recommends keeping the 6XX and getting something different to complement with another tuning.
Nice review but one question you said that their instrument separation is on par with this from sundara and 1990 while other reviewers say sundara and 1990 have better what do you think of this?
i have loved my HD650:s for 10 years now, still sounds good but they have been used lot so they are worn to a point that i want to change them :) As for DAC i use NAIM DAC V1, it makes these sound almost 1000e headphone, guitar, jazz music sounds rich and lush, bass is great, also high vocals are amazing. Soundstage cant really say, because no experience of huge ones, nothing to compare. Getting the Focal Radiance for these so hope those are a lot better, i love warmer sound and look for bit more bass thats why choose the radiance.
Great job Chrono. Any chance you could make an EQ profile for the 650 with the fenestrated sheepskin pads? Ive had mine for years but I recently tried the fenestrated sheepskin pads and they are just so much more comfortable, but the sound characteristics change a little too much for me.
@@h-dawg6462 well i tested headphones in range of 150$-2000$ and yes pricier are better sounding and made of better materials, cheap headphones can sound good but never with cheap amp/dac, you always need a good source to unlock full potential of audio gear
They changed the damping material from paper to fabric to some sort of silvery plastic in order to lift up some of the veil but otherwise mostly unchanged.

@@InfestedScapegoat Sorry I'm new with this, need some help please. Does the Schiit tube amp need new tube every year? Do you use any EQ in your set up? If I buy the Shiit EQ Lokius, is it connected between the source and the DAC/AMP?
I couldn't agree with you more about the bass AND the upper mid shoutiness !!! I use them as a reference for mixing ads and muaic. I also can mix on them if I have to work remotely. I have a funny relationship with them. I wouldn't even say i really like the sound signature (I prefer heavier V shapes, and the high-mids and low-highs are too present here for me), but on the other hand i adore how "flat" they are, they seem to show everything I would want them to.
I’m new to high end headphones so pardon the dumb question please. I see a lot of people using these hooked to their PC for music. Is this a waste for something so high end?
I'm new too, I would buy an good DAC for that. Fiio is a good DAC or amp that has great reviews. I assume your computer already has a built in DAC but it's not good. My Source would be Tidal MQA from laptop or Iphone.
Not a waste. They sound amazing with no amp, a real pleasure to listen to straight from a phone or PC. You'll notice the quality without a doubt. Modern computers and phones are quite capable these days. Of course if you want perfect reproduction, get an amp
I do not think it is necessarily a waste. They sound very good from the laptop, android tablet too. There might be a tiny difference compared to my dac/amplifier combo but I would not worry too much about it. With separate amp or dac they will not transform into different pair of phones.
HD 600 Pros : - Very clear and detailed, it feels snappy. - Neutral sound which is why many like this. - Vocal is clear and forward. Cons: - Bass is not impactful as you find in a lots of review. - Soundstage feels definitely narrow and restricted, I could confirm this after hours of usage. - Not as enjoyable for a casual/normal user. That laid back and smoothness is missing. HD 650 Pros: - Much better bass and sounds fuller. - Soundstage is definitely better. - Very smooth and laid-back tune that could be used for hours without fatigue. - Vocals are darker and recessed if you like that. Cons: - Not as clear or detailed as you may feel when compared with HD 600 - Not neutral sound signature as HD 650 As my HD 650 got damaged I ordered HD 600 after so many wonderful recommendations online but in short it is not as enjoyable and non-fatiguing . So will try now HD 660s or something which is more enjoyable and return HD 600. Considering enjoyability aspect in mind might be Sennheiser sound engineers tuning the subsequent versions of 600 series (650, 660s, 660s2 etc.) - Kudos to them for these wonderful Open-backs.
@@Goodbutevilgenius guess 6XX is very similar to 650 so I can say its simply not detailed at all if you consider anything else than mid range, Ive heard 600 long time ago but from memory it has better highs (less veil)
Great video. I love the 600 and 650 headphones. What pair of headphones would you consider to have the 6XX's best qualities but with extended range? Cheers
While the 600 and 650 are legendary and still have an amazing timbre and midrange, I do think they have been beaten in the last couple of years. The Sundara in roughly the same price bracket (if we ignore the 6XX, which is also a lot more expensive for Europeans) does almost everything better. I also recently switched back from my daily driver (the Koss 95X) to the 600 and - while in theory their signature is quite similar - the differences were staggering. The music was all of a sudden claustrophobic and lost so much detail. So in my opinion Sennheiser really needs to update their 600 series with a modern revision. And no, the 660s won't cut it - that's basically a mix of the 600 and 650 and waaaay too similar for the price difference.
I have Sundara and even though I love them for many aspects, there is one quite big issue about them - lack of weight in vocals and some instruments, which can sound quite artificial esp. (but not only) in a lot of Pop music. Also some recordings can sound quite harsh due to the quite elevated lower highs. Currently I am actually thinking about getting hd650 as supplementary headphones just for vocal oriented music and less analytical, more relaxed listening.
I owned the Sundara and 600. While the Sundara is technically a superior headphone with wider stage and proper low end extension, I found myself listening to the 600 more often. Reasons include 1. Far superior timbre 2. Less fatiguing highs 3. Vocals - they simply sound amazing on the 6X0 family of headphones. I still enjoy the Sundara for its technical aspects, but for actual listening and enjoyment, the above mentioned factors do imo take priority over technical superiority.
But if you're keeping your headphones for like 5+ years, it's probably safer to go for HD600 series despite whatever people that own Sundara said. I've seen so many qc related issues.
Hey guys im back have choosen theses head set what would you guys remove from the list. Im licensing to Rap, Hiphop, Reggeaton,Trap, Spanish Music . Focal ELEX vs DT 1990 PRO, hifiman ananda, HIFIMAN SUNDARA, HD 6xx. Like some bass, vocals and highs dont like bass overpowering my music
From my experience, the soundstage and imaging on the HD 600 series really isn’t all that amazing for gaming-at least for FPS games. I think that the AKG or something from Beyerdynamic would be better for games.
Would I be right in thinking that neither of these would handle classical music particularly well given the narrow soundstage and bump in the treble please? Was very interested in the 600 but seems to be flawed
I have the hd 600. Subjectively speaking they sound quite good on classical. I do not find the sounstage particularly narrow. Then again I have never heard the hd800 for instance. Ymmv.
I mean, according to most people on different audio forums these are THE classical music headphones, especially in this price range, for their balanced and clear sound.
I’ve gotten used to the HD650, but did find it bloated at first. There are genres of music I can’t listen to with them. Queens of the Stone Age sound awful through them!
@@demon-ll9eg I’d use neither for gaming. They have zero soundstage or sub bass. I found the Fidelio x2HR great for gaming. Easy to drive, wide soundstage and reasonable imaging. The V shape sound actually suits games better than a neutral sound. They’re also great for surfing online. If you have around $300 to spend, maybe look at the Fidelio x3?
When I restarted my audio hobby 3 years or so ago, the first open back headphone I got was the HD650. I got it at 50% off retail due to a promotion and then I went on to more and more equipments, DACs, Amps, DACAmps, cables, compiling hi res music etc… I sold the 650 within a few months at the same price I bought it for because price went back to normal. But, I kinda missed the sound so I got the 6XX. I have a small collection now but I still reach for the HD650 every now and then, especially when using tube amps. I use Mac, can’t play Native DSD and no proper software EQ to use. Any advice or recommendations?
I own the HD-600. I've heard the 650 but it was long ago. The HD-600 was my first high end venture into headphones just shortly after it's introduction back in 1997. At some point in early 2000 as my son was just beginning to walk, or at least stand on his own and use his hands to hold onto furtiture and take a few steps, he got his hands on them. I was working a 2nd shift job at the time and have no doubt that this occured while my wife was making dinner/doing laundry and somehow they wound up in the bottom of the dishwasher. Of course she didn't know. It didn't end well. I purchased them again about six years ago but much of the finish wore off and so I purchased a new headband assembly for the 650 as I didn't want that faux marble aesthetic of the 90's again. I DO retain the lower part of the rings below the yoke, however, and they have been painted a dark blue metallic color. They look nice. I kept the old headband and now have the drivers of an old pair of HD-535 attached to them. Best of both worlds! LOL
I've been able to power the hd6xx to uncomfortable levels using the 18i8 gen 2's headphone outputs. Usually ride the gain between 1 & 2 o'clock, depending on source.
@@roberteverett8463 SO I received my heresy but my 6i6 is at my other place so I can't compare yet. HD 650 is a really beautyful & really soft headphone and the magni is enough to power those :)
All three are excellent headphones. I perosnally like the HD 660S a bit better than the Elex, mostly because of comfort, though. And then I like the Clear more than both.
Do you happen to remember whether the hd600 cable was plugged into the headphone the way the hd650 was? I just ordered from amazon for a low price and am wondering whether I got an open box/returned headphone, because the packaging is really bad, the box is beat up, and the cable wasn't plugged into the headphone. It also had sort of a funny smell to it, kind of like a hotel room. Fairly pleasant smell, thinking it could be someone's shampoo but unlikely since it was so strong. Thinking it's probably just the factory smell (really the foam).

I'm not really an audiophile, with that being said, if i decide getting either of these headphones and only plan on using it for spotify on my phone or computer willl i be getting most out of those or do i really need an Amplifier or flac files or Dac to get the most out of those?
yes and no? i mean, you will need an interface/headphone amp to power it, but that being said, even a fairly cheap one will power it. you can even get some cheap ones that connect easily with your phone for less than £100, it wont be totally ideal, but it'll still work and sound good
You can play them from a phone if the phone has a decent dac, amp built in. Same goes with PC. You'll only know when you use them with your devices. If they need an amp, they'll sound quieter than you like from your devices. If they need a dac, you'll know if there is low level noise, in the background. I suspect if that is the case, it will be more apt to happen with our pc than your phone. ( it depends on the quality of the the dac or amp. If you do decide you need a dac or an amp you don't need anything expensive. Also don't expect to be blown away, unless your phone and pc are really low quality. Audiophiles tend to greatly exaggerate the benefits of dacs and amps
@@garyluciani370 My Rotel intergrated amp got a built in DAC, do I still need a external DAC to connect it with the Rotel? I heard Cambridge Audio got some great DAC and I might buy one from them.
I use mine connected straight to my Samsung S9+ phone and they sound awesome. I can't even put the volume up to the max or it's too loud. Very clean and musical. I'm a music producer so I use a dedicated interface and a headphone amp when I'm working, but for casual listening, no amp works amazingly well
OK! It's all true, and... Does anyone know headphones with same timbre as those but with the wider soundstage (not planar)? The answer will probobly be my choice for life!
well from my experience you could try Focal Clear pro, not sure about soundstage factor but overall those are better in everything without loosing nice timbre (can work with tube amp or solid state)
The HD600 is already at the top in some categories. Its basically has perfectly neutral tuning and one of the best ringing characteristics. You will find headphones that will balance more aspects together but at the same time you will lose out on others compared to the HD600.
@@Currywurst4444 I am considering Meze Empy/Elite and HiFiMan Arya SE. You are right regarding the HD600. I just wish they had the comfort of Meze, a wider soundstage like the Arya and a little bit more power in the subbass reigion like Meze. The main reason I want to upgrade, though, is comfort. I guess I have big ears.
I personally like the HD 600 more for classical music; I feel like its treble region is able to better represent the overtones of instruments typically used in classical music.
These get rave reviews from classical junkies. RAVES. And such testimonials carry weight with me, given that classical listeners are much less apt to be taken-in by audiophile mumbo-jumbo, or fooled by "objective" but meaningless technical specs. I have several good friends who swear by these headphones and consider the acquisition of HD 600s to be signal events in their listening lives. FWIW.
I can now add my own voice to the chorus of praise for the HD600s. Arrived this week and WOW. Large-scale concertos to solo piano, a poignant experience. Exceeded my expectations by a significant margin.
I've owned several Sennheiser heaphones (including the HD600) and always had problems with the plugs into the headphones coming loose in time and intermittently losing sound in one side. All my Sennheisers with removable cables have had that problem. Also, they sell replacement earpads, but NOT the headband pad. When that is worn (the foam disintegrates) you can toss the headphone because the plastic will dig into your head. I've moved on to other brands 15 years ago. Maybe they are better today.

They respond well to dac amps to give a fuller sound. Ifi hip dac has great bass boost mode
Actually, they do have boomy bass unfortunately which is why I don't own the HD650 myself. The ER4 does similar things but is more precise and has no bass bloat.
Exactly. I just wish they were wider and had a tiny bit more bass.
Basically that what you get from cheap headset, these are so over-rated that its incredible.
i partly agree with you but for me i always want a little more bass. maybe im spoiled because i have upgraded to some really high end headphones but the only thing i want out of the 650 is more bass presence.
Two classics in their own right - they are part of my collection that I never plan to move out.
Same here. Have not been without an HD600 since 2003 & HD650 since 2007.

@@robertgosselin14 What the main difference?
The HD650 is great for laid back music
I love warmer and smoother sound (maybe less audiophile but do i care), so I went for the HD650 today, enjoying it so far.
Couldn't agree with you more. The HD 600 is a classic for a very good reason.
Old but gold
I‘ve got the HD600 as well. Even though I also have Grado GH2, Denon 9200, Audeze LCD2 Classics among my headphones I still listen to the HD600 the most. Great sound and, what‘s equally important, super light. On my tube amp they are sonically still amazing.
I bought the 650 because I kept hearing it being described as "smooth" which makes me very excited.
Your description of the 650s also explain why they call it smooth. Well done, I was able to follow it very well as a noob
im now in between 650 and 600 what do u think?
@@demon-ll9eg both of them are a great choice and both of them sound astonishingly natural and detailed. It is only a matter of preference between a mid-highs oriented (but still relaxed and natural) sound (HD600), or a warmer more deep sound signature (that's also very relaxed and natural) (HD650). Also don't be afraid to choose the "wrong one". I actually bought the HD650 and then tried the HD600 wish i actually prefered, but that did not make me regret buying the HD650, because they still are amazing and still share 90% of the DNA of the HD600😉
not exactly smooth like literally, just um signature sound, hard to explain
im a composer/producer and im geting the 650 (never tried both), but what i learned with experiencie, is that headphones too flat became boring, and to have a real juicy one is the way to go, since you're more in love with music with the juicy ones.
Totalmente de acuerdo. Tengo hd 6xx y dt 880. Los beyerdynamic respetaron su sonido a volumenes altos. Los 6xx destruyen su sonido
I've never found the need to use high gain on the Atom with a 650 or 600. For me, it easily powers them on low gain. I was surprised you mentioned using it on high gain.
I was about to say the same thing. High gain on the Atom? are you nuts :)
@@simongibbons2148
I'm at high gain at about 11-12oclock on the HD600 and the Atom.

HD650, still the best headphone for general use. I didn't find anything that would beat it under 2k$.

Excellent review. Thanks. I like 60s jazz, so maybe the 650s would suit me better. I like that you leave it up to the listener as this is clearly a matter of personal taste.

for gaming go for 650 (basshead edm) and for music ( orchestra and opera ) go for 600
note : hd 650 is not mainly focusing on bass alone it just has that extra desired bass
650/6XX bass is more than 600 but still very far from being basshead headphones
Nice job Chrono. Your review covers the two very well..Bravo!

For some reason I never liked the 6xx, it just sounds wrong, maybe because I love treble and bass. 600 and 58X are pretty decent.

The HD58x has pretty similar tonality compared to the hd650. It has a bit more bass extension but is less detailed and the treble isn’t as smooth and sounds almost grainy.
Great review and extremely accurate descriptions of the sonic characteristics (own both of them) 👍

Best reviewer I've seen in a while
They have made these for so long because they are classics !
Love your channel!!! I have a question: how long does a headphone last?
It seems the 560s/400Pros have an extended neutral bass reach.
waddya mean "less aftermarket support for earcups"?
all of the 5 range earcups fit on them easily! and i wouldn't say "flimsy" either!

Thank you.
600

Pros :
- Very clear and detailed, it feels snappy.
- Neutral sound which is why many like this.
- Vocal is clear and forward.
Cons:
- Bass is not impactful as you find in a lots of review.
- Soundstage feels definitely narrow and restricted, I could confirm this after hours of usage.
- Not as enjoyable for a casual/normal user. That laid back and smoothness is missing.

- Soundstage is definitely better.
- Very smooth and laid-back tune that could be used for hours without fatigue.
- Vocals are darker and recessed if you like that.
Cons:

Not sure how you would use these on JDS Labs Atom at high gain, as you say. 50 mw is enough to get them to 115 db.

LOL

HD600 or HD650 paired with a really good equipment should be end-game for most people, they are that good.
since broke, ive never heard anything even close to that sonically until like yesterday
well2 ive left comment
yeah its not technically best which would be (obviously) he1, or lejardin, final 8000, but its the best iem to represent unique melody
@@iikatinggangsengii2471 Focal Clear is better but for me less comfy and drivers tend to give up at high SPL in sub bass region
The 650's are slightly bassier, not significantly. Don't know what you're hearing.
This is a good review but...this series of heaphones DOES creak, crack and chip which is directly contrary to what you state.
You should get Apple Music which supports lossless and the schiit magni amp DAC stack
The answer will probobly be my choice for life!
good question, a worldwide universal problem
None
Has some of You heard the NDH 30? Is the hype I've seen few times reasonable?
well from my experience you could try Focal Clear pro, not sure about soundstage factor but overall those are better in everything without loosing nice timbre (can work with tube amp or solid state)
@@soulfulfool thanks :)
What would be a nice upgrade from the HD 600?
Check out the Hifiman Ananda.
LCD-X 2021
Maybe focal clear?
Which one is better for classical music?
I personally like the HD 600 more for classical music; I feel like its treble region is able to better represent the overtones of instruments typically used in classical music.
These get rave reviews from classical junkies. RAVES. And such testimonials carry weight with me, given that classical listeners are much less apt to be taken-in by audiophile mumbo-jumbo, or fooled by "objective" but meaningless technical specs. I have several good friends who swear by these headphones and consider the acquisition of HD 600s to be signal events in their listening lives.
FWIW.
@@Hotspur77 thanks
I can now add my own voice to the chorus of praise for the HD600s. Arrived this week and WOW. Large-scale concertos to solo piano, a poignant experience. Exceeded my expectations by a significant margin.
@@Hotspur77 congrats, enjoy. I too lean towards the 600.
Maybe they are better today.
sounds like this guy isn’t driving these cans with the right dac/amp
Sennheiser have no deep bass what so ever...
its called sub bass and yes I agree with you :) but most of those "cheap" headphones cant do real bass well, no surprise there its because they are cheap 🤣🤣
Is Chrono wearing makeup in this video?
Different camera
I hate them Long thick cable, don’t like it rubbing against me.
These sound boring. Senn snooze. Plus they require pretty serious amplification to get going. Good review. Many better choices out there today.
They have a very low wow factor, a good thing IMHO.
@@nyquist5190 a boring factor, sub bass is not there, highs lack of definition, mids & vocals is a selling point, my DT880 600ohm are killing them with performance but they are slightly modded, my 6XX most likely also get their mods its a matter of time
@@soulfulfool In my book boring hifi is good hifi. Agree about the lack of sub bass, however disagree about the highs lacking definition. I bought my first pair more than twenty years ago, thought they sounded veiled, sold them to a friend, bought a pair of Stax, was unhappy with the Stax midrange - and a couple of years ago bought my second pair of HD600. Are they perfect: no. But I can live with the faults. Do I trust my own impressions? Not much ;)
@@nyquist5190 I sold my HD600 old one made in ireland, yes it was bad decision, now I got 6XX which is more likely "veiled". About amping dynamic drivers, tubes always do it better, people who dont invest in a good amp know nothing about their gear.
so i bought them and they are so quiet, you i cant increase volume even with focusrite, i have everything maxed out and it sounds like a wet fart
If you got a Chord Mojo (cheapish now, since the Mojo 2 is out) I guarantee that you won't be able to get past 75% volume without your ear drums serving notice on your brain. They sound magnificent through this device and for £400 (£200 for HD650 / £200 Mojo is possible) an outstanding combo.
Get a Schiit magni + modi.
58x to a > 650. They will get here soon 789 amp
That sennheiser veil though
HD 660S is king fight me
I disagree and I have every single 6 series ...
The 660s is the best looking but mine rarely leaves the box
@@turbomustang84 which do you like the best?
The HD 660S is probably my favorite too hahaha I think it's a pretty good mix of the HD 600 and HD 650
dt 1990 is the same price and better (if you equalize)
Chrono 660 or Ananda?
I just ordered mine today with express shipping with a set of dekoni sheepskin pads should be here in 24hrs all together cost me 340dollars kinda a steal with the dekoni pads was a open box but as long as they work I’ll be happy
Is it worth to upgrade from HD 58X Jubilee to HD650 ? thanks
