In the 77 bug, looks like sunglasses are mom's, she doesn't need them back. And the Binoculars are yours to keep, dad always had a pair in the car to watch the people and boats at the boat launch.

That 77 Bug would have been listed for sale here as "Take over my project, I don't have the time to fix it. Has rust in the usual places, needs a battery, ran when I parked it. $4,000". That's crazy that the floor pans are gone, it must have sunk down, and was in the dirt for several years. You can fix it. John

I really love watching your content. I would absolutely love to have a Beetle myself one day. Here in The Netherlands they´re quite expensive though. I'm currently 17 and in about 10 months I will have a Beetle if the right deal shos up. I honestly cant wait! A Beetle is just such a beautiful car that you can enjoy and work on all year long... man I can't wait :D

Regarding the 55 vs. 77 in terms of rust, kinda makes you wonder if they started using cheaper steel in the 1970s or something. All you ever hear about 1970s cars is how quickly they would rust out.

Here in California all my life almost all no rust. Just today saw 3 old VW bugs most likely from the 60's still looking good.i say 60s cause of the original license plate color configuration still on the cars.

I think those are actually opera glasses. An old friend of my mother’s gave me a similar pair when I was ten or eleven. “Willy Mays-Haze here: I play like Mays - and I run like Haze.”
Back in the day the Newport bridge was a toll road and R.I. residents could buy tokens at about 40% of the cash price that non residents would would pay to cross the bridge, that is how the bridge was paid for. The bridge would save the drivers about 7 miles and about 25-30 minutes instead of going around where traffic and traffic lights would slow you down. they didn't use salt on the roads in 1955 like they did in 1977better driving and much worse on the vehicle under carriage of the car.
I had a ‘74 super beetle twin port, bought it when it was 9 years old. By the time it was 13 years old it needed welding up, the floors giving way even then. Not sure what happened when VW made it in ‘74 ? they were launching the VW Golf same year ?. Maybe they used all the best steel on the new Golfs ?.....

Jason I have never seen an air cooled Bug with a/c. When I first saw the vents on the bottom of the dash I thought it was equipped with it. Dealer installed back in the 60's. I remember back in the 60's hearing that the people who made it were in TX and tested it there so it was strong enough. The VW dealer near us had a brochure on it, wish I still had it! Bet it was a pricey option! Fuel injected also. I wonder how much hp it had new?

When I saw that engine I thought, "My aching knees! That sucker is going to get dropped out the bottom, rebuilt and put back in." Does look better with the lid down! That car is a Poster Car for where a VW will rust! Don't turn up the pressure in that washer too high. You never know what could be holding that car together. 16:35 Why did I think Tetanus Shot? Defroster? My new 68 had frost an 1/4" think!

This one’s another job for Mike Fn; the Cali guy who’s not afraid of rust....🤣😂. Remember the ‘77 was probably in the dirt; that explains why it has no floors. When replacing, 18 ga. Is the ticket, just like the originals. You’d be surprised these floors are offered in 22 ga., paper thin! 😳

thank you ...the issue with the body tag is without it , you can't prove the body matches the chassis ...reduces value also ... It's not a deal breaker for me as i do not collect Vw's for dollar value . However with this 77 , the body tag would also state if it was made in Germany . 77 was the last year of the standard Beetles and I think only 20k were made in Germany that year . I know this car has never had a body swap but for the history of this car moving forward it is very essential piece . Yes , driving to the Florida line in a new car is over 18 hours non stop , Fl line to Miami FL is another 5 hours and key west is another 3 ish hours . that's a haul in anything :)

The difference between the '77 & the '55 is the '55 ate its' spinach. But the best part w/both is "if you run someone over, you can look down & see if he's a friend of yours". I forgot the classic cartoon I got that quote from.
I am not that keen on the later Bugs, but you don't see many like that, I would have it.77 maybe rare nowadays its a shame it has not got the tag, maybe its on Joys lawn , I don't think there are many around as you are getting into stupidbeetle era 72 onwards I think. The later bugs had cheaper Steel , probably from Russia loads of European manufacturers cut costs it's all about the money sad really , love the 55👌 great vid and a snake to boot, or a snake in the boot 🐍 sorry you guys over the pond call it the trunk 👍
yeah , it was bought new by Mr Smith and he also bought the 55 in 1958 ....as well as the 69 Westy in 1971 ...so a lot of history in these cars :). As others have said i don't think the salt boat launch helped or the area ( salt ) ...as well as being parked on the lawn . And yes , they probably weren't made as well in 77. I guess I had forgotten they were still making the bug in 1977. My dad had a 77 Rabbit gas model and my Mom bought a new Diesel Rabbit in 78. In my mind, I thought they had quit producing the bug around that time. What was the last year for the bug?
The answer for this amount of rust came when you said towed a 21 footer .....Perhaps got it wrong way around ....Launched the Car instead of the Boat ?

Last year for German hard tops that is. My 79 vert was in the last year of German bugs. Mine’s all original with 32k miles.

That 77 is pretty rare. Last year of the hardtop, and NOT a super beetle. Very few sold!

The sheet metal used on the 68 & up vw's,are not as thick as the early years. That is why the 55 is in better condition. 👍

The steel was a lot cheaper in the 70's..

I am not that keen on the later Bugs, but you don't see many like that, I would have it.77 maybe rare nowadays its a shame it has not got the tag, maybe its on Joys lawn , I don't think there are many around as you are getting into stupidbeetle era 72 onwards I think. The later bugs had cheaper Steel , probably from Russia loads of European manufacturers cut costs it's all about the money sad really , love the 55👌 great vid and a snake to boot, or a snake in the boot 🐍 sorry you guys over the pond call it the trunk 👍
yeah , it was bought new by Mr Smith and he also bought the 55 in 1958 ....as well as the 69 Westy in 1971 ...so a lot of history in these cars :). As others have said i don't think the salt boat launch helped or the area ( salt ) ...as well as being parked on the lawn . And yes , they probably weren't made as well in 77. I guess I had forgotten they were still making the bug in 1977. My dad had a 77 Rabbit gas model and my Mom bought a new Diesel Rabbit in 78. In my mind, I thought they had quit producing the bug around that time. What was the last year for the bug?
it was actually 2003. they built them forever.
In the UK, I’ve seen them registered as late as 1985.

The answer for this amount of rust came when you said towed a 21 footer .....Perhaps got it wrong way around ....Launched the Car instead of the Boat ?
