I don't really understand if you are referring to a basic step, or from the shadow position (because of the lesson). But the main idea is, the lady follows your lead, so you can lead her steps. If you refer about the hip swivel on the basic, this is her choice regarding the 3-4 possibilities of moving the hips on a basic. If you are referring to the move in which you move her hips, than yes, you can lead that. The answers to this questions should be thought in a class. Because we, usually, teach first how to lead the basics, then some simple combos, we only get into sensual bachata (hip movement in a more complex way) after 6-8 months of classes (2 hours per week). Hope this answers some of your questions

Does anyone have a breakdown of the "a bajo" double wave they mentioned? I can't find one.

Que movimientos se pueden hacer en esas posiciones .. pero estando el varon adelante de la mujer. Y como son las marcaciones para que las entienda
Vamos a hacer un video cuando el hombre es adelante de la mujer. In principio, son los mismo muvimientos pero las señales son diferentes.
