    Man show people the numbers … people don’t care bout nothing else … explain to them that every ship is different & show the numbers… no matter what it is .. it’s more that people make at home & it motivates the masses

      If money is the motivation the mass’s are doing it wrong. I don’t do this job for the money.

      @@Tr3TV2022 And that’s exactly why I drill into every video where money comes up that it’s not about the money. It’s about the freedom this job of ours gives us to do other things. %99 of people don’t know what they need to hear until they hear it, and only half will use those words correctly.

    Hey so I have a question I currently just became a Merchant Marine got all the qualifications and all and I’m trying to go through SIU but I pay to go to a maritime school to get my certifications what’s the difference from paying for your certifications and going to the apprenticeship school where they give it to you and you still come out as an entry level

    • @Rd_ranger
      @Rd_ranger 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just haven’t been given any information on this career that I’m trying to pursue with SIU or Msc and I don’t really understand

    • @northwestsailor526
      @northwestsailor526  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why pay for the entry level classes if you don’t have too? And are you planning on joining the SIU (Union)? Because if you go through the apprenticeship and finish you’ll have B-book seniority. Compared to paying for the classes out of pocket and then joining the union you’ll come in as a C-book seniority. Which means your buddy that went through the apprenticeship can now “out-bid” you on a contract and take the job from you. He’ll have higher seniority. Besides all that the apprenticeship really paves the canal for everything you need to get on any ship entry level. I’ve met a lot of non apprenticeship guys that didn’t have certain classes so they couldn’t take certain contracts on specific ships.

    Love the videos watched a lot of them. Question though. During the program how much money do you think you make total through all the phases? And what is a starting salary looking like once you finish? I have a few friends in the industry but they did not take the program and was looking for a number from someone that was. I'm signed up for deck.

    How do you think your attitude would be if this was your first ship and then you went to your last ship because of the difference in work hours?

    • @northwestsailor526
      @northwestsailor526  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My attitude would be great. My last/first ship hours were a breeze. Those 12 on 12 off were great. But the normal standard watch schedule definitely make times go by faster. The days blend together.

    I had a question how far can you get in the Merchant Marines if you didn't attend the Merchant Marine Academy? It said the age to join is 17-25, which I'm no longer in. So if I were to go the route you went through the apprenticeship program and chose to work Deck how high up can I go in terms of rank compared to someone out of the academy

    • @northwestsailor526
      @northwestsailor526  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can still go all the way to Captain. I’ve never seen the “age to join 17-25”. I was in the a SIU apprenticeship with mid 60s year old men and woman. Someone who goes to an academy will get their 3rd mates/(2nd mate license come automatically after so many sea days) but will still need to go back to school for chief mate/Captain. Same goes for someone who does not go through an academy. It’s just sea time and required class courses.
