      I have a mental list of Shayla quotes I tell myself when in doubt of “how to baby”. This “problem” quote just got added to the list. Thanks for the confidence boost 😄👍

      My pediatrician said this to me at my daughter's 4 month appointment and it was almost liberating, if that makes sense.

      Yes! This is what I learned with my first child. If it feels right for you, do it! I breastfed to sleep until he was 2 years old, yes it had downsides, but that what I felt was right for me. Also "sleep training"... I did read about it at the beginning and was kind of influenced, but then I realized that just listening to your child needs is what I want I do. Again, there downsides, but that what felt right for me.

    COVID kids. Where target and Christmas are in the same “dress up” category. Or anytime you leave the house.
    One of My husband’s jobs was to make sure to feed me at regular intervals so that I could feed the baby.

    I don’t mean to sound like a suck up, but YOU are the mom I’m trying to be like! Cloth diapering, Montessori bed, nursing to sleep, going non-toxic (this is a JOURNEY) ... heck, I might even try EC if I get bold enough! Meal prep... Yeah... One of my sisters made us a bunch of freezer meals as my baby shower gift. It was so kind, but #1 we actually didn't really like them (they made me nauseous during my third trimester) and #2 we ended up emergency moving during the last month. But it was very kind!

  • @MariaandMontessori
    @MariaandMontessori 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Yesyesyes absolutely agree with the mom sleep! That's one of my biggest "regrets" too. My baby is a week away from 9 months and I still keep thinking back to all the frequent, uninterrupted naps she used to take while I cleaned, did laundry, cooked...just whatever i could find to do around the house to feel in control but NOT sleep. Definitely doing that differently next time!

    I’m expecting our 5th, planned home birth because I’m too lazy to drive to the hospital... I call myself a lazy parent. Because co-sleep, breastfeed, EC, cloth diapers, BLW, home birth.... it’s all things I find natural and I don’t fight it.
    and I don’t sleep when baby sleeps. I try. But I have 4 kids lol.

    • @dawnforlife
      @dawnforlife 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      omg, you are a super woman. I have ONE. ONE! By the way, after 5 months, lazy co sleep parent, I think it can't get better in terms of sleep. Cloth diapers..not lazy thoughhhh..

    • @MultiDaisy1995
      @MultiDaisy1995 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Finding you on here is like me finding the mom that makes me feel not crazy! So much of what you share resonates with me. I don’t have lots of mom friends w littles probably bc I’m 43 & my LO is 14 mo. & the ones I do have aren’t excited about the things I am (like exclusive nursing bc it’s good for her even tho I don’t love it, EC, Montessori, etc.) which is sad but you are an encouragement & I am thankful for that!

    I have a 4 yo and am 24 wks pregnant with our 2nd and last. We have NOTHING done for this baby but amazingly... I am ok with that. There’s no freak out this time. My biggest “regret”... TOYS. Oh my Lord they don’t need ALL the toys. We went overboard with my 1st and it’s out of control now. My son was really bad at tummy time and hated it on most days, barely stayed on his tummy for more than 10 seconds and it used to stress me out so much because everyone on youtube kept stressing on that.
    I also never put him in a walker or one of those activity centers that even more youtube mom's encourage. Out of experience, and I know all kids are different, but I found tummy time not so necessary because my son started walking in less than 10 months without us actually teaching him to. It comes naturally, one needn't fret so much about these things and, get stressed and in turn unleash a list of these to do's on the baby I feel.

    I'm not even halfway through this and you're so on cue. Covid kids only wear jammies! My little went through a phase of 2 months where i was like screw these outfits and jammies all the time. But then he grew so fast and I live in a small area...baby boy pajamas are a night mare to find around here and ordering online was no better. Now it's part of our daily routine to change the diaper and switch to clothes for the day and breakfast. Then for bedtime we have our routine to switch back to jammies. More laundry but it is a nice part of the routine for him.

    Biggest regret was worrying about baby sleep. I never considered sleep training as I read about the dangers associated, but I obsessively tracked every minute of sleep. Now I just go with the flow and follow possums approach and my baby finally only wakes 3-4 times a night rather than every 45 minutes.

Plus it limits feeding position, my baby keeps kicking it down! haha! Just never saw an alternative view on that and in case a mom wants to feed on demand, maybe good info here in the comments.

    Can you make a video about why you regret sleep training in more detail? My baby is 6 months and we always contact nap and nurse to sleep but I’ve been considering takingcarababies’ course and want to know why you didn’t love it

    • @hebebebe139
      @hebebebe139 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Taking cara babies is not gentle at all. Sleep training is very flawed and sells the myth of self soothing which is biologically impossible until at least 3 years old. Sleep is developmental and cant be taught or trained, it's the biological norm to nurse and cuddle our babies to sleep. Sleep training just teaches babies to not cry out, they still wake up just simply dont bother crying because the lost hope of getting help, it causes something called shut down syndrome (basically fight of flight, but they just freeze in fear and stay quiet in the dark) I can highly recommend the facebook group called "the beyond sleep training project" to learn about the biological norms of babies sleep.

    • @heyshayla
      @heyshayla  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean kind of what Charlotte said. If you nurse to sleep you’re in the red of her scale to get baby to sleep. It felt too overwhelming. We did one night and weren’t super committed but it was just all crying. I also don’t have to go to work in the morning, so what’s best for your family might not be what’s best for mine. Trust your mom instincts and also what you need to do to have a happy home

    You really have to take advantage of naps with your first. Once you have the 2nd your first doesn't nap as frequently as a baby or sometimes not at all. You can't just sleep when baby sleeps and let a toddler run rampant unsupervised. I wish I had slept with my 1st bc 3.5 years later when I had my 2nd there was ok napping at all.
