Let's kick off the 650 class showdown with one of the models that has been in this class for a long time, I'm talking over 10 years long time. Kawasaki has had the Ninja 650 in there lineup as long as I can remember and that's coming from somebody that's been riding for over 10 years now! The Ninja 650 is known as an amazing all-around motorcycle that is a phenomenal bang for your buck! Now we just have to get our First Ride in so we can see how it stacks up against it's rivals, Suzuki's SV 650x and Honda's CBR 650R.

Idk if anyone will see this but I'm thinking on getting a bike this summer atm, I'm split between the ninja 400 and 650. This will be first time learning how to ride and owning a street bike. I own a ninja 650 and I love it. It's a very good starter bike, and you won't get bored of it after 2 months. Plus sounds good with aftermarket exhaust.
Buddy I'm in complete agreement with you, I too am more interested in going from 0 to 60 mph(0 to 100k) quickly than hitting super fast speeds-so torque over the horsepower.
I love how 650 has upright seating position.. it's more comfortable for long rides

I was considering to buy this bike and I had made up my mind that's this is perfect for me, but due to temptation and other family members with bigger beasts I wanted to match, however your video has really given me a some information that has tipped me into going for it. I went to a motorcycle shop today, and told them my price range and that I had 8 years of experience on a dirtbike, so I understand the basics, and they recommended the ninja 650, is that a good idea?

I'm new to bikes and I like to DIY. I got a 2019 Ninja 400 and I modded it like crazy. I put in a USB charging socket, frame sliders, extra lights and wiring. Man the Ninja is so easy to work on couldn't believe it. I cant even do much on my car besides changing oil lol.
How is it cause i'm looking for my first bike and this is definetely one that i'm considering (i'm also looking at a yamaha r3/r6 ,or a zx6r

@@robi.herman its a great bike, but I can't really say much with it being the only bike I've riden. But your just going to have to go out and sit on the bikes to really get a feel for them. I'd recommend starting with something cheap because most likely its going to be laid down. Never rode the Ninja 400 but it look nearly identical to the 650s. Also having already paid off my bike I've actually been looking into getting a smaller cc bike too. I'm stuck between a KTM rc390 and the ninja 400. Also just make sure its something your really going to be into. Going on Craigslist you will see a lot of bikes with not even 1k miles on them being sold. Just make sure its not an impulse buy. Nothing worse than being stuck with a 8k loan for something you regret buying in a couple months.( Sorry for the long comment) Goodluck on whatever decision you make. And make sure to be carefull not to ride over your skill limit. Practice Practice Practice

I own a 2012 650 and this year I upgraded to a 1000sx and I must say, I really still love riding my 650 around town and commuting to work. Im waiting for the next generation but I will be buys another ninja 650 in the future.

Compared to the Ninja 400 what would you say?
New rider here. Anyone have any thoughts on the best brand of tires? I have a 2009 Ninja 650r I just got a great deal on. Only 4100 miles and garage kept. Problem is the the 4 digit code on the side of the tires shows the front was made in 2007 and the rear in 2008. Not really thrilled about riding around on 15 year old tires. Just want something good for average everyday riding. I'm not going to be coming down the twisties dragging a knee on the ground or anything extreme. Just looking for something that will grip good. Thanks!

funny my cruzer does not have a windshield and i dont complain about the wind hitting me going 90+ mph. You just get used to it. must be a crotch rocket rider issue lol

I hate when people label these beginner bikes, been riding for two years and bought a new 650. Really don’t need the speed from a 600 i love the torque it offers

Is this a 1 seater only?
12:00 that has been a problem with the windshield for literally all generations. Getting a nice sporty, bit steeped or taller windscreen makes this bike absolutely smooth on the highway.
the zero gravity double bubble solves most of that issues with the 17-19 models and still looks good.. Height of the rider will matter of course. I'm 5'10 and it made a huge differance.. I'm actually glad they went back to the fixed mount. in theory I liked the idea of the adjustable windshield. But it looked horrible in any position other then lowest.

I chose the Zero Gravity Sport Touring windscreen for my 2019 Ninja 650. It looks great and has great protection on the highway

This bike or the 400? Never rode a motorcycle on my own before except a small dirt bike as a kid
Depends how confident you are on a bike and your geometry. The 650 has a lot of power right from idle so it's very unforgiving to mistakes and is heavier, but more space for larger riders. The 400 is still quite quick but more forgiving and easier to maneuver.
Hey, this is NOT the ABS model. At 21:40 he eventually says it is, but the 2020 Ninja 650 ABS has a sticker on the front wheel mudguard that says "ABS." Unless they took those stickers off, that's why his tire locked up.

i had an SV first for a year, then got a 2012 Ninja 650. Still my daily transportation. I live in Asheville, and the bike feels just as good going down I-40 as it does whipping through Town Mountain Road or going up to the Snake. I wouldn't say average. I'd say it's a SOLID bike.

I just bought a 2019 ninja 650 for my 1st bike and I love it, and the 2019 seems have fine engine breaking tbh, i hardly got to use breaks if I'm just cursing

God I hate the awful parallel twin sound...got rid of my ninja 400 for a R6 mainly because I couldn’t get over how wimpy it sounded

To help with the wind, get a double bubble windscreen. I got one for my 17 and it helped so much

Wish the CBR650R was a bit cheaper it would be a winner for sure but for 7k this 650 is a good deal man.
That's because the CBR650r has 94 horsepower vs the Ninja at 67
What about getting last year's model? Those seem to be cheaper than getting a current year bike.

CBR650R own a ( ‘18 CBR650f it’s a perfect all-around bike, with an in-line 4 engine, perfect for daily commute on the streets and mostly highway. It has enough power to compete aganist the 600cc class bikes and ride on track days. It is very comfortable and has enough power, worth the price!

Reviewing a bike when it's snowing, only Chase! Owning the 2017 Ninja 650 the 2020 is the same except for the dash, fairings and different rear and front, engine wise and suspension it's the same! I feel it's an all around bike to do anything you want. As far as the shift light at least on mine you have to set when it decides to freak out at you! Highway riding with the wind at higher speeds is not fun, it's geared wrong for the highway so If you ride the highway to work you need to re gear. Oh and you can wheelie very easily with that bike trust me done it many of times not trying 😂😂. Good review Chase! It's a well balanced all around bike!

All the GT650R is, is just a SV650 copy that's worse in every way.

@@alexslade2226 The engine is basically a direct copy, and the frame is simultaneously heavier than anything in the class, and also has problems with cracking in half. It's not a serious contender in this class.

I got mine dyno tuned and i can pull wheelies all day in 1st and 2nd. I paid $1,000 for my full Akrapovic exhaust and got 7 extra horses but it sounds so much better than stock. K&N Air filter and oil filter, and i run Motul 7100 every oil change.

On the 1000sx, the windscreen is adjustable. Is it not adjustable on the 650? I know there are upgrades, but it think having things adjustable would help make it a "forever bike".
So would a higher windshield and a different set of handles make it excellent? How would this fare with a person 6’3” 240lbs?!
Gripping the tank firmly with your knees is ok for normal riding. However, when going fast in the twisties or on a track this will only raise the centre of gravity, meaning it won’t turn in as easily. Hence the body weight needs to be completely on the pegs, with minimal weight on the seat. This lowers the centre on gravity and unsprung weight. A bit like upside down forks... well sort off...
Bought one a few weeks back, driving mostly in town and farm roads. I'm sitting around 200 miles right now. That being said this is the first bike I've ever owned or ridden outside of the MSF course, which was required in here to legally ride.
As for the flashing light for the first 400 miles you are supposed to "break it in" keeping the rpms at or under 4k. All of the main roads near me are 75 mph and 60 mph so its basically impossible to stay under 4000 rpm. Here is something I found off of the net related to the Break In from the owner's manual.
"The first 1 600 km (1 000 mi) that the motorcycle is ridden is designated as the break-in period. If the motorcycle is not used carefully during this period, you may very well end up with a "broken down" instead of a "broken in" motorcycle after a few thousand kilometers"
and
"In addition to the above, at 1 000 km (600 mi) it is extremely important that the owner have the initial maintenance service performed by an authorized Kawasaki dealer."

FZ/MT-07 STILL the cream of the crop. More power, more torque, lower price, abs standard, made in Japan. This bike is overpriced, underpowered and Thailand built. Sounds like a lawnmower also. The crossplane FZ/MT sound is sweet and different. Hey Kawi, update your bikes where it matters, not just throw a fancy display on it and call it new. 🤷🏻♂️🙄
I've been reading complaints about the stock suspension set up? Are those claims overblown?

I don't know what Kawasaki have been thinking since 2012, but the mirrors have become shocking. I had no option but to change to bar ends on my Z800 as otherwise I could only see my shoulders.

This is a very Fair Review. I have put a couple of thousand miles on a 2017 Ninja 650. Because it is very similar to the 2020 model, I can maybe add a couple of points. The bike is very easy to get used to and will fill the needs of most bikers from beginners to long time veterans 90% of the time. One doesn't have to put many miles on this bike before one learns to appreciate it's predictability. One can also expect to hit fuel mileage in the 60 mpg range when given the proper attention. If I were pressed to pick one bike to ride for 10 years, it would be this bike.
I have a 2019 which is the same as the 2017 and I couldn't agree more it also does wheelies haha
