What other humanoids are in the MH universe and what fantasy race would you want to see.
Mine is angels, onis, harpys and mermaids.
I like how Capcom takes fantasy beings but twist it in a way that would pass in real life.

9:04 Technically, Rise having the Wyverian Earrings as a layered armor piece lets you play _somewhat_ as a wyverian character.
The finger count and leg anatomy is still off, and you can't use a helmet with it, though. So having an additional body type during character customization that at least gives you those features would be really cool.

    • @AsteriaMH
      @AsteriaMH  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I was going to talk about that, but felt I that, as it was a piece of armor/layered armor, it really wasn't worth mentioning.
I agree, it would be really cool to play as different races!
Thanks for watching by the way!

Adore the video! Here's some extra info on Wyverians:
    - Wyverians actually have 2 languages:
1st is the ancient language lost to time and only spoken by the ancient Wyverians in World.
2nd is the unique language many of the very elderly Wyverians speak. Though we only get glimpse at it from many of the games, we get good audio of it from Stories's Cheif Omna and other very old Wyverians that get lines in World. Though you can hear the occasional elderly Wyverian in World speak it too such as the researchers you protect from Barroth. Unfortunately there is not a single person in MH Rise/Sunbreak that uses any ancient Wyverian. Every single wyverian in Rise falls into the below catagory.
Apart from many of the elderly Wyverians, most of the younger more acclimated or social Wyverians seem to use the standard language spoken, countless overlap happens between them and their human counterparts despite their elders not conforming to the modern language. Monster Hunter has always had this 1st vs 2nd generation immigrant feel about the Wyverians. The elders still use the language of the wyverns, yet their children have fully adopted the language of wherever they live.
(source: I've been studying the conlangs of Monster Hunter for the past 5 years.)

@@AsteriaMHGod, the egg debate was the funniest damn thing to watch unfold live.
The short answer: probably not. Wyverians have bellybuttons. The only animals that have bellybuttons give live birth, since the bellybutton is what remains of the umbilical cord after growing. For example: monotremes like platypuses (platypi?) lay eggs. Unlike placental mammals, they lack bellybuttons.

If humans evolved from apes then the wyverians evolved from wyverns. Which funny because that means that they are closer related to ratholos (etc…) than to humans.

I always found the coexistence between Humans and Wyverians to be a cool twist on the fantasy setting on human and elves.
Wyverians create almost everything from medicine, weapons and armors. So it makes sense that the majority don't do dangerous jobs when they have such a long life span. (I know some Wyverians can fight but majority of hunters are humans since they have a shorter life span.)
Humans are the risk takers that take on dangerous jobs such as exploring new locations and fighting monsters that either threaten the ecosystem or villages. Because humans always put their lives on the line Wyverians do their best to aid humans in their fight by creating the things humans need to succeed.
Humans and Wyverians have the best symbiotic relationship when it comes to human and elves. Unlike most fantasy elves who act snobby and all high and mighty they are thankful towards humans who act as meat shields for Wyverians.
Wyverians are smarter than elves because they found a way to 'tame' coexist with humans.
In short Wyverians are bros and I would love to see more demi humans in monster hunter such as angels, onis, harpys or mermaids.
Video Idea: What other humanoids exist in the Monster Hunter universe and what humanoid races would you want to see?

I think the choice for village elders and other administrative officials to always be Wyverians is partially a case of the Guild's foresight, at least in areas where humans and Wyverians live together. Wyverians' closer link to nature probably makes them less prone to the pitfalls that human leaders often succumb to, such as power-hunger and greed. The Commander, Admiral and even the General might be special cases, in that their sense of duty keeps them from abusing their authority.
Honestly, His Immenseness may claim to only be the leader of Dundorma, but he's basically the leader of the entire Hunter's Guilld in all but name.

I love the world monster hunter and while there are the art books that have some lore scattered through it, i wish there was an official series or something that showed off the world a bit more. The games only show you so much because they’re GAMES, that’s the primary focus, but you can tell the developers have put a lot of thought into this world, and don’t get to show off everything they’ve envisioned. With wyvarians as elf stand-ins, and shakalakas as goblin stand-ins, this is a lot like a standard fantasy setting, but you can tell there’s some nuances here and there

  • @Ryodraco

Regarding wyverian wisdom and knowledge, I'd like to add to what you mentioned about how this is displayed in the roles they play in human civilizations. The majority of wyverians live in their own villages and rarely travel or associate with humans all that much. The minority that do though tend to end up in high, respected positions in human societies. In pretty much every game you can find a wyverian who is a chief or respected elder of a town (or an esteemed scholar), despite the town being 99% human. In Generation Ultimate there is even an NPC human who seeks to prove that a human can match a wyverian when it comes to smithing.
Some other details about wyverian biology and physical traits I think bear mentioning include why they are believed to be related to wyverns. Aside from the digitigrade feet, their toes also tend to be pointed claws (though you can only see this in individuals that expose their toes), and a few of them even have green skin.
Regarding lifespan, they don't only live longer, but also age proportionally, at least for parts of their development. At the very least we know they spend many decades as teenagers (Stories showing adolescent wyverians looking the same despite fifty years passing, and in the mainline games there is a NPC in Generations Ultimate that mentions wyverians have an "awkwardly long puberty").

Better in some ways, not in others. Humans apparently learn various skills and develop them much more quickly than wyverians.

  • @ArcusArgent

    A couple of theories:
Evolution is a thing in the MH universe so it is not far fetched to say that Wyverians may have evolved from wyverns/dragons and could possibly the first civilizations.
Humans may have then evolved from wyverians or just like irl, from apes or "beasts".
Wyverians may have been selected to be leaders to have a control over the human greed and to prevent the so called "dragon war" from happening again since they are more attuned to nature and can live long to understand how nature works including elder dragons.
Wyverians can also have a bad influence on the MH universe due to how they slow down technological progress to adapt to monsters instead of social, science and entertainment purposes although, even if they allow progress, elder dragons will still destroy everything if it progresses too much.
