    How a La-Z-Boy recliner is designed and made.
    What started out as a seasonal porch chair ended up being a staple of the American living room.
    Cousins Edward Knabusch and Edwin Shoemaker designed a wood slat outdoor folding chair from orange crates in 1928 - the first La-Z-Boy recliner. A comfortable concept, the chair followed the contour of a person’s body, both sitting up and leaning back. In 1927, the cousins abandoned secure jobs, joined forces, and invested in their own furniture business in Monroe, Michigan. Suddenly, Knabusch, a woodworker, became the marketer, and Shoemaker, originally a farmer, became an engineer. An important furniture buyer refused to purchase any La-Z-Boys from the cousins because at that time La-Z-Boys while very comfortable were only seasonal porch chairs. The buyer advised the inventors to upholster the chair and sell it as a year-round piece. The upholstered recliner was a great success. With financial help from friends and family, Knabusch and Shoemaker patented their invention and registered their trademarks.
    In 1931, Knabusch and Shoemaker received a patent for the first automatic recliner.
    La-Z-Boy rode their solid reputation and emerged as the Baby Boom favorite into the 1950s. During 1970s and 1980s La-Z-Boy hired several big name celebrities for their ad campaign such as actor Jim Backus (Thurston Howell III on Gilligan’s Island) and actor and former Detroit Lions Alex Karras. Today La-Z-Boy is truly a 21st Century forward thinking furniture and home decor company with retail design showrooms across the United States and around the world.

    We have been La-Z-Boy customers since 2002. We owned the Devon sectional for 17 years and recently gave it to a friend. Due to health issues I now need a lift chair that reclines. We chose the Clayton Gold power lift recliner. It was on sale and it has been wonderful for me. I can now get restful sleep and stand up without discomfort. I had been sleeping in a butterfly chair for two years and it was so difficult for me to stand up from. We also bought a pair of Hunter power rocker recliners for my wife and daughter. So happy with these chairs.

    In regards to making you lazy the theory of it making you more rested and full of energy is exxvtly true as we get older our bodies need the rest and getting your feet elevated in a reclined position helps get your blood circulating in a faster pace and delivering more oxygen to your extremities i am 55 years old and suffered a Major Stroke over 10 years ago that has left me with some paralysis throughout my body and the only place i am actually comfortable in is my Lazy Boy Recliner ! Wher it actually allows me to sleep and rest my lower back area to eliminate pain without medications

    My first ever recliner was a La-z-Boy Cool Chair (Fridge, heated seat and massage)r. My second was a La-Z-Boy rocker recliner, but after 12 years needs replacing. So I've ordered my third La-z-Boy and it should arrive for Christmas. I highly recommend the brand as they are well made and extremely comfortable.

    I bought a La-Z-Boy at a second-hand shop for $50. When I got it home I found the factory tag stapled underneath that stated it was manufactured four years earlier. Online price new: $900.

    Always had a La Z Boy, but this is my last. When I sat in it when I got it home, there are times that I put my hands under my legs. So a few days after getting the chair, I put my hands under my legs to find the is no cushion on the sides and my hands scrape along the wood.

    Great recliners. I've owned a few over the years and they last 2-4 longer than the competition. They are very durable, the fabric seems to hold up very well and the frame construction is top notch and can handle a lot of use and abuse the same goes for the metal springs and hardware. Excellent chairs that are very comfortable, durable, long lasting and affordable what more can you ask for?

    I agree. The chairs are not the say. As you can see in the video they are using particle board not real wood. Way over charging as well. The quality has been compromised and is not they same as they used to be

    • @cuddles6938
      @cuddles6938 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We bought those cheap ones we think from Costco and the metal square tubing they use broke in two places. My girlfriend nearly fell out the back of the chair, she was reclining in it and it kept clicking until the back headrest was almost laying on the floor behind her. Luckily I was still awake so I raised her back up by hand. The prices of the La-Z-Boy power models start at $2k USD. Greed is rampant that is for sure, if you could find a local company making furniture that has the power mechanisms to install you would probably get better quality at a lower price.

      I saw the one piece that showed a particle board as the front of the arm rest. The face board was shown screwed to plywood structual piece. It's strong enough. I worked wind turbine construction when they poured the base. They were using particle board for casting the and it never bulged.

    • @Luckingsworth
      @Luckingsworth 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@choe627 Particle board fails over time as it absorbs moisture and is in general a cheaper lower quality material. That is why it is suitable for a form that is torn down after use in a few days. Not great for furniture that will be exposed to spilled liquids that should be able to be kept for 75+years.

    I paid $4500 for a couch and love seat and both their backs wore out within two years. Mechanisms are fine but I can't sit on them anymore. The problem is they use polyfil for the backs and have a 150 pound guy testing it. Not to many La-Z-Boys I know that weigh only 150 pounds.
