      @@MyMcDoodles my cricut did not cut throught the holo sticker paper. What are your setting?:(

    • @MyMcDoodles
      @MyMcDoodles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@drawingjemi_art8038 It depends on the sharpness of my cricut blade. If it’s fairly sharp/new, I can get away with the vinyl setting for kiss cut or vinyl + for die cut, but as the blade dulls I often have to experiment with the other settings like cardstock, etc to get it to cut fully through. You can also press the Cricut button again (instead of the unload button) and it will run it through a second time aligned exactly the same way and can often get the full thickness cut this way. I hope this helps!

    Hi! In what situation would you prefer to send your work to be printed by another company? Is there more of a profit when you print, laminate and cut with a cricut yourself? Which then makes your products “handmade” / “ home made”…or is it just easier to have a third party make your stickers. I guess I’d just like to know more of the pros and cons of doing it yourself vs a third party making them.
    Thanks in advance for your help!

    • @MyMcDoodles
      @MyMcDoodles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hey there! Honestly, I outsource when I’m either 1. short on time or 2. when they email me a really good sale or deal! Here are my thoughts of pros and cons for both methods:
      DIY
      👍 Pros:
      -Fun & rewarding
      -You have complete control over your product
      -Can print & cut ONLY what you need
      -It’s cheaper (usually)
      -Quick turnaround time
      👎 Cons:
      -Time consuming
      -Troubleshooting can be frustrating
      - Have to keep supplies like sticker vinyl, printer ink, etc in stock
      ----
      Professional
      👍 Pros:
      - Easy! Upload & walk away
      - Durability
      - Printout looks perfect (usually 😝)
      👎 Cons:
      - More expensive! Cuts into profit significantly.
      - Have to print a larger quantity or in bulk
      - Lag time while product prints and ships
      - Possible damage in the mail (don’t ask 🙄)
      You must consider your time also, of course. Your time is worth money. If outsourcing makes sense for your business, go for it!
      Hope this helps! 😃

    I bought the silhouette irridescent sticker paper, similar to holographic, and printed on it with dye based cmy and pigment black. Not right away but over a few weeks the ink smears away and I need to print with really bold colors for it to be opaque enough. I will try the sticker paper you recommend. I also have an all pigment printer which i haven't tried yet...your graphic in the video looks like it was saying pigments don't absorb as much on this type of film as dye does???

    • @MyMcDoodles
      @MyMcDoodles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! If you’re having issues with ink smearing off over time, you may want to try a quick spray of clear Krylon waterproofing/UV protectant so the ink doesn’t smear off. I have to use fairly bold colors as well for the ink to really show up great. Pigment ink can take longer to dry and also I’ve noticed some people saying it smears on certain types of vinyl. I’d definitely do a test run before you print too many or invest too much time. If you aren’t able to print at home, consider a professional printer like sticker app. I’ve used them for holographic designs as well and the print comes out flawless! 🤩🙌

    Hi! I've tried printing on holographic paper (I have a Canon Pixma IX6800) - it not only smears but it prints beaded with 'cracks' through the ink. I think the black ink I use must be pigment, I'm not sure? I don't know what to do and would appreciate the help!

    • @MyMcDoodles
      @MyMcDoodles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no! From what you’re describing, it kinda sounds like your printer uses pigment ink. (It should say on the cartridge what type of ink it is.) My original black cartridge was pigment, but I realized that I bought some off-brand ink and the black cartridge I use now is also dye based ink like my color. 😬 So I can’t test to see if black pigment would smear. It may also depend on the Holo vinyl you’re using. I have a similar printer and didn’t have issues with the vinyl I linked in the description as far as things smearing with the dye based ink. Are your colors smearing also? Or just your black?

      @MyMcDoodles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MsJruiz22 oh no!!! I’m sorry this is happening to you! So frustrating!😫 Maybe try adjusting your print settings to print with less ink. You can also let it sit to completely dry for a while then once you’re sure it’s dry apply a clear self stick laminate.
      My printer uses dye based ink and that has soaked into the vinyl material really well and I haven’t had any smears. If your printer uses pigment ink cartridges that can take longer to dry and may be the cause for smearing. 😬 I hope this helps and you get it worked out so you can print these at home! If you must move on to a professional printer, I really like stickerapp.com. They do a great job with holo stickers!

    • @MyMcDoodles
      @MyMcDoodles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not tested this sticker vinyl with a laser printer, but my experience in the past is that sometimes the toner will “chip off” if not printed on the right material. So I would definitely recommend looking for a pack of vinyl that says it’s made for laser! 🙂

    how do i get the background to be holographic without the cricut trying to cut it

    • @MyMcDoodles
      @MyMcDoodles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It took me a sec to understand your question, but I think I got it. Make the areas you want to be holographic, but do not want the Cricut to cut (like my writing on this sticker) white. Since there is no white ink in your printer, this works for DIY stickers! Your Cricut will only cut on the border you created when you do it this way. Does that help? I hope so!
