What if they're not pets , but keep getting into my goldfish pond ? I just released a male slider that was unfortunately in there for three years . A female slider found it's way into the pond four days later , but was able to climb out . we caught her in the front yard , and I was able to take her down to the lake to release her . Did I do a bad thing for the eco-system at the Lake ?

It depends on where you are at. If you are in their native range in the south and central states you are fine.
