Yep.. can’t complain to nobody.. everyone’s in the same boat so we try to maintain each others peace. Unless you piss us off and cross a line you shouldn’t have… then it’s on. Cambodians can be ruthless.. ruthless in how they love and ruthless in how they get angry. Also.. this lady isn’t poor and she isn’t struggling. She’s decked out in gold… we all know what struggling looks like in Cambodia.. she’s not it.
I've seen six of the slumfood millionaire.. so far, I hope CNA produces more.. those dishes in this episode are the most interesting for me. The first frog dish is so amazing and I like that it is so freshly prepared. Hope that someday I can visit Phnom Penh and try them all. Especially the frog. Love, from Indonesia.
Hope you can visit soon and try the stuff frogs. It’s an authentic, local speciality that will leave your mouth watering and wanting more. As-salaam 'alykum!
I'm Cambodian but no longer reside in the country. What I miss everyday is this exact dish "Grilled Stuffed Frog". This food brings back all the memories as a kid when my family was filled with love. Each time we made it, we always gathered as a family and helped each other out. It's even more time consuming as my family didn't have a blender back then to mix all the ingredients together.
As a poor person in America its really cool to see how poor people survive in other countries. Weird to think that my tiny, 100 year old basement studio could fit a whole family anywhere else and theyd be happy. Id love to see more videos from you!
I've watched all the slum food millionaires episodes. It's really interesting to see the different lifestyles of southeast asian countries. I hope CNA produces more series like this and please make one in Myanmar as well.
One of my favourite Khmer food ! Since they use a lot of spice, it doesn't smell fishy anymore. Eat it together with rice and you will have a Mark Wiens smile for sure 😀😋.
I love this channel. This is much better than much of the "food shows" from the West. The passion and entrepreneurship of the people in these videos is inspiring.
I binge watched all episodes of slumfood millionare. I love this program. I really hope that cna would make more episodes of this. Please make more episodes.
Because it's surrounded by many commercial building, the business there should be better because many workers as well as office workers would roam around in the morning, afternoon as well as the evening. I must admit the electricity is pretty expensive though, it's around USD0.2/kw. It seems she includes all electricity expenses from the stall, the sleeping places and her house upstairs.
Gosh this looks so good. Frog tastes so much better than chicken. What more when stuffed with pork. and it's grilled! Looks so yummy with white rice and coca cola!
It’s amazing documentary. I really enjoy and learn a lot from it. I have small eating disorder. But this program helps me to be excited about food. Thank you 🙏
All the food looks amazing. My mouth was watering the entire time. So delicious… khmer food is so good. One day when I visit I will come by to eat at the stall.
16:17. This dear lady reminds me a bit of Frida Kahlo. She is beautiful, and although she has the pain of losing her husband, carries on with grace and humour. Much respect.
This frog dish is one of few dishes i would eat from these slum videos. It is pure protein and looks delicious. One thing i noticed in all these videos is how clean the food is. Very clean. Even the water in some of these videos used from rivers in India or Vietnam where people bathe, launder, or defecate in, the cooks use lots of salt and scrub the meat and fish to disinfect. In addition, i noticed these cooks take every effort to remove all the blood from the meat. We don’t take these many precautions in the west when preparing meat or fish we have caught ourselves….at least I don’t. Most food in the US is already processed by the time it arrives in the kitchen. Very little of the food in these videos is processed; it is pure and raw and fresh.
This looks too Cultural and Complex to be called Slum food. Poor people in Cambodia and Laos definitely eat better food than most of the Filipino middle classes.
This food is not for poor people only we eat this as a normal food for everyday even in the party they also use this food for party too. My English is bad.
Cambodian food is delicious too. Very similar spices used like Thai and Laos food. I can’t wait to get to Cambodia one year and try these frogs. I’ve had them in Vietnam, my family made them for me. They are really tasty for an animal with little meat. The stinky shrimp paste is vey commonly used in Cambodian cuisine. I love it, gives it this pungent taste. 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🍆🍆🍆👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Even though this is slum food let's talk about all the fresh, seasonal ingredients being used and the cleanliness of preparing them all. The spicy frog looks delish, even the fermented fish, but the waterfall pork is my fav!
As a Cambodian stuffed frogs is one of my favorite dish. I've made with chicken and catfish as well 🌶🔥😋 Never made stuffed frogs living in USA it's hard to find frogs with more meat. Theses ladies I'm sure their dish taste so much better than mine as they're old school chiefs lol. Overall I love all the dish on here. I miss eating Prahok kiet. My mother used to make it quite often when I was little.
@califood3618 oh sorry. I'm actually living in Cambodia. They all accessible everywhere here. You can check out your local Khmer restaurant. Hope you can get to taste them. Yum
In slump area the electricity USD 100/month and the rent USD 250/month...... It's so expensive to life in Cambodia.....in the same slump area in Indonesia you only pay USD 15/month for rent (electricity and water included)
Can’t help but giggle when she said she makes her own lemongrass paste from scratch for all natural after pouring MSG on the frogs while wearing an Ajinomoto apron.
Fun facts about Cambodia before Khmer rouge rise to power: most of the elderly when ask to relocated to America or Europe they would said: "There are no prahok and trei ngeat outside of Cambodia why should they leave their home country" sadly this was the case of my great-great grandfather who didn't comply when my Great grandfather ask him to move to the US so my family stay behind with him and only half actually moved to the US. Note: my great great grandfather was a France teacher; and my Great grandfather was a military general for the Khmer Republic (they were killed by the Khmer rouge around 1976 according to my grandfather)
I bet they were ជាតិនិយម. I don't know what is it in English. That's great for Cambodian people to love their country, but it's something to consider about during war time.
Awesome cuisine! However the only slum food I've seen in this show was the "pag-pag" made from restaurants chicken wastes sorted in the garbages of Manila. Everything else isn't slum food but local foods. And i'd love to taste all of it (but not pag-pag)!😊
As a cambodian, this is more war time food but it was popularized under the Cambodian Genocide when many died of starvation. In the past, people would be scared to eat frogs, but during the genocide people did what they had to do. Now, many people eat it, but its more common with lower-income people, but I enjoy it. As a kid i was terrified of it, but when i finally took a bite i realized it just tasted like a stuffed chicken wing. The flavors compliment each other well.
@@bb4251 okoun ceran my friend to share your experience! I'm myself a frog lover! But I didn't imagine that it was for Cambodians the food of the last choice! I was born in France, I love eating frogs! No offense! Thank you for the story of your people eating frogs 👍

The one thing that surprises me about all of these... is just how clean their cooking areas are. Better than a lot of restaurants! My husband owns a commercial rental kitchen and buys used equipment, some of it comes in SOOOO nasty!! We hardly eat out anymore because my husband has been so disgusted by the kitchens here in the US. He's from India and swears the street sellers keep their carts cleaner than the kitchens that you don't see behind the scenes.
