    Stumpy😁 thank you so much for doing this. We're told to not put enhancements over a damaged nail but so often we need to protect it while it heals. You've explained the correct way to accomplish this! Much love to you and your fingernail. 🥰

    I've had psoriasis since birth. It's heredity on my mother's side and I hate it with a passion. I feel your pain Adam and I'm one of countless many who have it. I used to have beautiful nails and nail beds but they're extremely thin and break super easy no matter what I did until I found Naio Nails Channel. I started doing my own nails with hard gel because my husband has severe COPD and Emphysema and can't be around the harsh fumes of monomer. And thanks to Kirsty's teaching throughout the videos, I've learned sooooooo much. I watch that I don't get rid of my apex and keep watch of what's going on down the barrel. My family and co-workers can't believe I do them myself. I have co-workers that come up to me and ask for my opinion on how well their nail tech on their nails and the 1st thing I do is look for the apex which is HORRIBLE! It's not there and I warn them the nails won't last long. Sure enough a few days later, at least 3 broke down to their actual nail. I send them all here to learn as well and I hope I got you more subs. Much love and thank you 😘

    Yay! I'm the 200th like! As for the finger's 'name,' let's call her Anna, or Annie, diminutives for annularis, (an-nu-LA'-ris,) the Latin name for the fourth finger. Believe it or not, but the Latin names for the fingers were the first Latin words I learned as a child.
    My grandmother was a "beauty operator," her archaic term-- NOT mine! She owned her own salon, and I quite literally grew up in it. I mean, when I was a baby my grandmother would have her clients hold me while she gave them cuts, styles, and even chemical procedures like dyes and perms! Anyway, she taught me the Latin names, and wouldn't polish my nails until I could name all of the fingers in Latin! It was the same for scissors-- I wasn't allowed to own a pair of safety scissors until I could spell scissors! Luckily, I was an only child and was constantly being read to and being taught all sorts of things, depending on which of my sitters, my nanny, parents, grandparents or great-grandparents I was with at the moment. I had a big chalkboard and they taught me to spell lots of things before I started kindergarten at five. In many ways I was a very lucky child to have so many intelligent people in my life who truly loved me.

    Kristy, this happened to me as well, same hand same finger. While I was home I would leave along and create a fake nail to stick on the nail when I needed to or sometimes I would just put on a bandage so that no one would look at my bad nail. It took about a whole month before I was able to put acrylic on it.

    *Perhaps you have irritant contact dermatitis. Because unfortunatley as I taught myself how to do gel nails on myself (which means lots of contact with the skin) it means through two much contact you gradually become somewhat allergic! Every now and then, when I put that go on, my fingers get all itch and horrible. It’s really sad and I hope it can be reversed!!*
    Great video as always Kirsty

    • @catsandcrafts171

      Same! I found ways of doing it that doesn't cause a problem, but now and then I totally screw it up again. it's so painful, bleeds and peels and the nail starts lifting again. :/

    • @JaneD559
      @JaneD559 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brig McLean how do you do it? Because even if I put the gel on my nail with no contact with the skin, now it still gets really itchy. Keep in mind when I started using it I was absolutely fine with it. And yes!t that happens to me too, it looks disgusting and makes me feel horrible when my nail lifts and the skin makes it bleed !

    I can tell you that I to have a similar nail and it’s on my dominant hand, but mine was a break half way across my nail, completely ripped off and it never grew back so now I’ve got this nail I’ve got to fix every two weeks cause there’s only half a nail to work with and I wear my nails an inch and a half long from free edge. It’s been like this for about twenty five years now and you just work with it. Just in case yours doesn’t grow back it can still be a beauty, just a DIVA nail always needing attention. #Girls got problems lol 😂 the tails from a tech. Good luck with your poorly nail and I hope it grows back.

    I also apply thymolize to the nail before repair, and apply it underneath the clean dry nail on a daily basis the crystals help heal and reattach the nails as it grows. It really works after many years of extra long nails and broken 😭 down cross the nail plate from grabbing things.

  • @lizzym8773
    @lizzym8773 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Think you need to file it thiner to get rid of that yellowish skin growing underneath the nail , that is preventing it to reattach properly. Had something similar happen to me once and I file it very thing until all was gone and repeated it until it attached. Mine was a way bigger chunk but it grew back in like 6 to 7 months, not once did it got an infection or fungus, grew normal, just keep filling every time you see the yellow stuff under the nail. It worked for me, but I am no doctor. Hope it heals fast!!

    I have exema on my finger tips. My skin sometimes feels like onion skin which will start peeling get raw spots & splits but dry skin is the constant problem. Doc says no more nails but I still wear them. Moisturizer , Eucrisa & extra strong Hydra cortisone are my routine now. My cuticles look like crap but I deal with it. 👍❤😊

  • @sarahgardiner1649
    @sarahgardiner1649 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    It should reattach, Kirsty. Some years ago I dropped a big padlock on my toe, and it bled heavily under the nail, separating it from the nail bed. Eventually the whole mail came off. To manage the sensitivity and keep the track of the nail growth normal, I kept glueing a big false nail onto the stump. Eventually the real mail grew through, fully attached.

    I have dyshydrotic eczema and it flares up on my hands and feet. She skin ok my finger tips and the bottom of my feet peel ( not like parm cheese or anything! Looks like a sunburn that’s peeling) it makes my cuticles thick too. Nails definitely help keep the cuticle under control

    • @amandah2866

      I get the very same type of eczema but on my hands only. I use pure jojoba oil and Helping Hands moisturiser from Lush to reduce the severity of my breakouts. Now I only get the really big bad blisters when I'm particularly stressed and I get less splitting when my skin does peel.

      I just repaired my big toe toenail with acrylgel. Sandal season doesn;t protect the toes too well. I looked down and my glitter toenail had a big V break in the middle. Piece was just missing! I cleaned everything up, removing gel polish, etc.shortened the nail and cut a nail form wider for the toenail shape and used clear acrylgel to fill the gap as well as cover the entire nail for strength. Then I reglittered the nail to match the others and it's still dandy. I don't remember stubbing that toe to cause damage but could have done when I was busy and just ignored it.

    Christy this is the perfect time to find out if it is psoriasis or an allergic reaction 2 gel polish base coats which I found out is what I am and I would be very encouraged to find something that I'm not allergic to so I can wear my gel polishes I was losing half of my nails not just one like 8 I would get the dryness under my fingernail tip so test some of your base coat gel polishes somewhere on your skin where you're not afraid of it scarring because I also did that and I did it on my wrist and I have still a patch of dryness and redness from the reaction

    Psoriasis would cause ridges and thickness, as well as weakness in your nails - much more common in toenails. I have exceptionally severe psoriatic arthritis (head to toe but in remission with bio drugs). My toenails are shameful, lol. Once they've "deformed" you're generally stuck with them like that.
    I'm like Kirsty and damage my nails a lot, i've managed to kill one of my toenails entirely and its stopped growing lol :DDD

    Where did you buy the brush that you use? I have tried everywhere to get a decent oval but they all still come a point! Very frustrating as I feel a half decent brush and tour halfway home to having a better finish. 😊

    My skin peels like that and I have contact dermatitis from hema in monomer, might be worth keeping an eye on. Also, think the nail should be called poorly Patricia 😂

    You should try silk overlay for the damaged nails!

    I swear by O'Keeffe's working hands and Burt's Bees lemon cuticle balm. My nails and hands look so much healthier now that I've started using them on a regular basis. I have an autoimmune disease which causes lots of problems with my skin and nails (skin dryness and brittle/peeling nails)

    I wish my nail grown in 2 weeks was only that much... I've had my gel polish on for little over 4 days and Im already well past your 2 week regrowth.

    Thank you Kirsty for sharing on how to repair that. I had been already doing that but it was your video on doing your own nails that really brought things together for me. I have stage 3 melanoma C and I don't know what is going on with my nails. I cannot I repeat I cannot attach any tips to my nails. It does not matter what glue I use what product I use I have spent a small fortune so that I can cheat on my non-dominant hand. Because I don't see like everyone else. However I am allergic to something my doctor said and you know I think he went into great detail but I don't remember exactly what it all was. Point is is gel polish will not stick to my finger nail bed doesn't matter what brand how well I prep. It is only the acrylic nails that will stick to my nail. Short story long I had taken my nails off to finally redo them I had a bout of full septic shock septicemia. So anyway my right thumb I took the nail off figured I'd let him breathe overnight whatnot and you want to talk pain it was insane so it took for 5 days. For me to get the courage to put a nail on it and I did and half of the pain was instantly gone my doctor does not know what's going on who knows I'm a Trainwreck no scratch that I am a train wreck a plane wreck of bus wreck. Scratch that I am a train wreck plane wreck tornado hurricane blizzard earthquake tsunami all in one. Because my health does it matter what I do to try to get better anyway I love the nail nails product. Kirsty you have helped me so much since I am blind in both eyes with the detail vision and the way that you teach it's so understandable so I get many compliments on my nails. And it blows people away that I do them myself. I had already been doing them myself but not not as well as I could have but thanks to you they turn out beautiful what my left hand does I do pretty good with the other hand providing I can find my fingers. And that is no joke! if I was on video people would wonder what the hell is she doing I know my fingernail is attached to my fingers which is attached to my hand my wrist my arm my body. tell my eyes that because I have to chase my hand down it's hard to explain thank you again doubt if anybody will read this but that's okay too

      I read your post, I can relate to the problem you have sticking anything to your nails. I put it down to the medication I'm on. Maybe that's why you're having such a difficult problem with your nails? Mine are paper thin & often discolour no matter how well they're prep'd. Hope you can find a solution to your problem. Sending you healing hugs & asking the Angels to watch over you & help you with your problems 💅💖

    When I was in nail school we used to say never look at your nail tech’s nails. Because we always do everything to our nails that you hate our clients doing.

    Hi ya,I have just had acrylic nails for the first time and I love how they look.I have had them short because of work and they look a little bulky. Don't know if this is just me as I am not used to having them on, but could I request a thinner application of acrylic next time or does it have to be applied to a certain thickness for strength ?
