That thumbnail transition was cool AF. And it brings me back to a simpler time in the early 2000s with the VBA emulator. Final fantasy tactics advanced is one of my favorite games of all time.
We really need a cheat sheet of the various chips and what you can expect a device with that chip set to run. That would make it so much easier to contrast devices outside of rewatching videos of various handheld models and styles over and over again. Especially looking at form factors since they often don’t get compared for performance etc. That person would be a real hero. Although this channels flipping amazing honestly because I always learn a lot.
Understanding expected hardware performance isn't so hard, especially when so many of these chips are the same across devices. If you watch the specs you can see where something is likely to fall based n the make and processor speed. A Quad core running between 1.5 ghz and 1.8 should get you to at least N64 with some Dreamcast and PSP. Beyond that, you getting into the 200 dollar range handhelds.
Ps. The RG35xx is not limited to PS1. It can go a bit higher … but alas the default support for the Onion O.S. Cuts out at PS1. If you use another O.S. You can squeeze a fee more systems out of it. eg. N64, DS I think. Not sure about Saturn or Dreamcast though.
Bluetooth and HDMI is a nice addition compared to Miyoo Mini+, you can plug it to the TV and connect a controller, and you have a nice little portable retro gaming console. Bluetooth headphones should also work, too. CPU and memory upgrade is also very much welcome. Tempting...
this... never ending story as a retro handheld collector... :) Very interesting but I will just hold on my Miyoo Mini Plus. Thanks Phawx for another great review
same i literally just ordered my Miyoo mini plus last month (still not delivered) as my first handheld and now the rgb35xx literally comes out with HDMI and bluetooth.
When I first got the original tiny Miyoo Mini V3 I bought a screen protector off Amazon that covered the entire front glass, but because the glass is rounded on the edges there's an air gap that forms where it didn't adhere all around the edge of the screen. They took pictures I sent them and resized the protector and sent a replacement which fits more like it does with the Ambernic device here without the gap along the edges. I saw people complain about the smaller size protector later in reviews on Amazon, but there's a reason for it's slightly reduced size.
i had the orinal gameboy too i cant renember where its gone i bought the rg35xx plus at amazon for 100 euro (i live in germany) and i cant wait to play 5000 games amazing i used to play emulation on a tablet samsung a 7 or something about 180 euro 5 years ago but i missed the feeling of buttons i think touchscreens are an good invention but as an 1990 child i miss the feeling of real buttons thank you for this video i gave you a thumb up
Great review! Just found your channel and wanted to say I always appreciate those few TH-camrs who take the no BS/clickbait approach. Subscribed. I have one coming but don't think it'll make it before Christmas 😫. What was your ship time?
Almost perfect, I just wish it was a bit taller. I prefer the original OG Gameboy size for hand comfort. These devices are just too smol for most adults hands.
Thank you for this video. I'm new here. I'm trying to get Guardian Heroes and MegaMan Legends to work on an Abernic RGXX Plus. Any chance that you could make a video like that?
I really like this device and wish my miyoo mini's had tv out. But honestly this extra power feels kind of pointless. The n64, dreamcast, and psp all need an analog stick and the mini's also have nds. I'm still preferring my miyoo's since I can just swap my sd card between having something really small and pocketable and something less portable but nicer to hold. Also the mini plus is still smaller than the rg35xx.
was having a hard time choosing between the Miyoo Mini+ and the original RG35XX because one had wifi and the other had the hdmi, but now this has both. i definitely want to get this but i'm waiting until the new year. only other handheld i've really liked recently was the ARC-D which has a more genesis controller design which i'm very nostalgic for
With this level of performance would be really nice to have at least one stick for some more advanced consoles, but i guess this means sacrificing look and feel
Absolutely Love the RG405. There are some Issues, but otherwise, it works great. Just need to find a suitable DPad Replacement, or figure out how to Adjust the Stock DPad to lower it a little bit. There are Issues with some Games not working properly. Also, the Aptoide does not want to work properly. Try to Update Games or Apps, good luck.
Just ordered one as my first hand held emulation device. Wondering how the dpad compares to a NDS lite or gba? I find my thumb gets sore if playing fighting games on the DS lite. Meanwhile I love the Dow’s on the original gba and gbc.
does it come with a memory card im getting one from amazon and says that it comes with 64gb memory card is that the second one or does it just come with one should i get an sd card
Im thinking about getting the rg35xx plus off Amazon or eBay but I heard that the D Pad you have to put electrical tap on it so it wouldn't cause a problem idk how to do that all I want it for 4 just to play retro games like nes snes gba and more is it worth it right out the box if anyone can respond to this with any info that be good to know
@adolchristin9837 I have a mini plus with onion and I actually prefer my xx with the stock os so the xx plus will let me have my stock os and have the power to play everything flawlessly.
@@RemyBonnici Sure, Stock OS is more beautiful, but it doesnot runs every games just as smooth as Garlic OS on RG35XX. I also received my RG35XX Plus this morning and Stock OS runs way better than before with Retro Arch, but beware, Linux stand alone emulators on Stock OS are still very weak: I have big slowdown on Dracula X on Snes. By Retro Arch however, it does run fine and better than before. I still wait for a cleaner Garlic OS 2 experience though.
it's kind of stupid to give a screen protector that doesn't cover 100% of the screen that it suppose to protect. we are not protecting the pixels, we are protecting the glass from potential damage that might shatter it, making it unusable, and that damage can occur anywhere
This is probably the best itty bitty handheld _BUT_ I say don’t buy the cheapest, weakest, least expensive handheld because you’ll probably want to get a _little_ bit more in a few months and end up buying half a dozen of these dohickies which will waste your time and money. Buy an RG353v instead, load ArkOS and enjoy your life.
Garlic 2 OS to be exact. But it's an Alpha release so Garlic OS 2 does not uses the GPU yet, so the performances, for now, are not as good as it should be and Stock OS is currently better (ouch). Still have to wait for newer release.
The problem with these though is they don’t run the games that well, I was trying to play super Mario world and it runs at half the frames of the real game

Ambernic creates so many handhelds that I don't know if this about us toying with the devices or Ambernic toying with us

Approximately:
RK3326 - Gameboy (DG) -> PS1
RK3566 - + N64 , Saturn, Dreamcast
T618 - + GameCube, PS2 (70%/80 %)
Perhaps you can think of the uncommon chipsets used in RG35xx and RG35xxPlus as being slightly below and above RK3566 respectively.

Got one ordered. So stoked.
I've already got a mini+ so I won't snag one anytime soon, but the gpu is exciting.
Thanks for the informative video! Can't wait for mine to come in. What's the game shown in the thumbnail, the kids in the snow?

Whats the game displayed on the screen?
Just ordered mine today! Can’t wait to get some Chrono Trigger played on this bad boy.

The best part tho is you can connect a controller through Bluetooth and play on a tv thru hdmi… so that’s awesome
I'm not a retro gamer, and not into these small form factor hand helds, but love the look and execution.
Great video, as always, Phawx!
What is the tangible benefit of the upgraded internals though? What systems does it now run that it previously could not?
are you going to review the Ayaneo Slide ? I wonder if should get me the GPD 4 2023 or the Aya neo Slide

Do the RG35XX Plus have a better screen than the normal RG35XX?
Does the Retroid flip still have more oomph over it please? Asking for a friend.
Do they make one that fits big hands better?

i like the saturn dpad style, never liked the nintendo style dpad. Hope anbernic make a rgb30 clone with a saturn dpad.
RG-ARC dpad is what you want. And RGB30 is not very ergonomic
Does this have final fantasy tactics predownloaded in it already?
What is the name of the game at 11:51? it looks like celeste!
Does it work with Android games and emulators?
Do these retro consoles come preloaded?
ANBERNIC's RG35XX Plus currently has some competition with PowKiddy's RGB30!

how does this fair with the rg35xx ?
Cual ess mejor, rg35xx plus o miyoo mini plus? Gracias

Is the Dpad better or worse the the RG35XX standard?
RGC's review says it's a lot better on the Plus.
Does this have all atari systems and all games

I welcome the extra power. Some arcade, snes and ps1 games don't run 100% on the Miyoo Mini Plus or RG35XX so this sounds perfect.

I think the screen and layout of the RGB30 is really good for GBA
