Unlike many tic toc guitarists, slash plays a part of a song…not just an endless solo. If all you have is technical prowess, then you have less than half of what most bedroom guitarists have. Rhythm, musical sense, and phrasing is more important than notes per second. Especially if you’re part of a band.
Exactly.
I have a double live cd set from Slash and his guitar solo of the GODFATHER just blows me away each time I play it.
I love that part of the Slash solo too!
Great video. His fluidity is incredible. His style reminds me of Jimi's but with a more modern edge.
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful day ❤😊
That’s why it’s so funny when people say Buckethead is better than Slash. They are so completely different it’s not even worth comparing them. Bucket is technically way better but Slash has his own amazing qualities for creativity and style so who cares
Buckethead is generations better than that guy are you silly? Do you have no idea you probably think Joe Biden is a good president.
Saul Hudson RIPS on any amp, unplugged etc. etc….🤘🤘🤘🤘⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
Scandal, we all know him as Slash.
He’s not my style, but he is absolutely amazing
I believe he is also getting into lap steel.
I heard that too. Should be interesting to see what he comes up with...
Slash plays for the song/ not over the song. I was taught the same way as a drummer
That's his great gift....
crazy how many people rip on Slash when he is a really good player
Look up Michael Schenker. He played in the band UFO with engineer Mike Clink who engineered and helped Slash form his sound ( and replaces Slash’s axe with an imitation LesPaul) for Appetite for Destruction album. You can hear the influence of guitarist Michael Schenker in his playing. Tone and all. A lot of players played like that in early 80s.
Well wouldn't you know it. Well timed

It's the same with most great players who have a distinct sound. Their technique and and pick attack are the differentiators between them and everyone else when you hear them. You can learn all their licks, get all the same gear they use and you wouldn't come close to sounding like them unless you can play the licks as cleanly (or not, depending on the player) as they do and with similar pick attack.
Oh my friend, there’s so much truth and wisdom in your words.
@@simoncoulston7223 it's funny, when I play Balck Sabbath songs, because I played so much of it in music teens and early 20's, I sound an awful lot like Tony Iommi... but the tone is the difference that makes anyone who pays attention be able to pick out it's not him. I got to a point I could improvise in his style. It's just as well I that I didn't replicate his tone. Back then I didn't have the money to do it anyway and now I have no desire. 😂
He a bad mfer on guitar.
Bob Weir from the Grateful Dead came up with a tune called Weather report suite from a warm up routine. It’s insanely complex and arguably more so than Jerry Garcia in some ways
I've got some vids on the Dead if you care to check em out. I should probably do some on Weir. I'll check out Weather Report Suite. Appreciate your comment and view!
@TalkLinkMusic-gd7fz oh good man I will do
Great video thanks.
I can’t for the life of me understand the huge amount of shite talked about Slash on some forums nowadays. I really can’t say when I first noticed it had become the popular thing to just slag him off, but certainly over the last two years or so there’s been a noticeable increase in the amount of nonsense being voiced.
Appreciate your support! 👍 And you're right, the Slash hate has def. grown over time.
James Dean Bradfield, a guitarist much influenced by Slash, has pointed out how clean his acoustic playing is. I think that when you combine the strength of attack you mention, with unconscious precision and melodic inventiveness you get a lead guitarist whose swagger disguises a lot of deep delicacy.
Most excellent observations. "swagger disguises a lot of deep delicacy" that's Slash to a "T." 👍
@@TalkLinkMusic-gd7fz Thank you so much. Am hugely enjoying your videos on the theme of what guitarists really sound like. They take us back into the heart of someone’s playing: the blend of feelings that motivated them to play guitar in the first place. I’d love it if you did one on JDB incidentally though some would think him a bit niche. What about Kossoff? Looking forward to whatever comes next. Well done!
I love Slash but the only thing I would disagree with is him being a technically polished player. I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t know much about music theory. He’s just raw talent imo. He’s all feel.
I'm not a fan of too much polishing. I want to hear character from a musician playing. If they have a natural gift for understanding interval, then theory isn't that important. Staying in scale can be restrictive.
Good point. What I meant by that was more like "well practiced" lol which is probably what I should've said... He's a woodshedder.
I never liked him in the early days, but he really got better. His band was cool and he had some cool solos/tone. But for me King Edward was the greatest, in the early days before Sammy.
Def. No-one would seriously compare Slash to Eddie.
Just like ten thousand others...
Not impressive on that little track.
He was just average. Maybe a tiny bit better than Ace Frehley. Maybe.
