It's really freaking awesome to see a company respond to constructive criticism from the community so quickly! Really puts "other manufacturers" to shame, as it should
One of the things I like most about Glenn is the fact that he's willing to admit when he's wrong. He's a stand-up guy and its why we all love him. That and all the swearing 😈
Glen one of the things I respect most about you is you admit when you're wrong, and you do what you can to fix it. This is an amazing channel you have to give musicians and audio engineers tools to learn how to create better music for everyone to hear.
It's awesome that guitar company was able to take the feedback of the issues and fix it quickly. These are the type of companies the player needs. Hopefully they will get your axe fixed up!
If guitar players weren’t such elitists I’m sure these would be much more popular . Amazing body styles, single hum bucker with 1 tone, and amazing tuning stability. Checks out all the boxes and uses materials less harmful for the environment. Stronger headstocks than a Gibson is also a plus lol
I havent seen it yet but now im curious. Its good of you to address these things. You could just ignore it but you care enough not to. Thats the important part.
GLENN. There's a lot of questions we bass players have (Why does my band hate me? How I tie my shoes? etc). I wanna know from a sound engineer - do you prefer basses with active EQs or would you rather we play a passive bass so that you control the EQ? Also, how do I tie my shoes? Thanks dude.
@@sonicclang Why do my bass strings sound different from one another? Do I pour the milk or the cereal first? Am I supposed to play the bass drum too?! If not, why is it called that?
Not a producer myself but when I was about to salvage a broken Harley Benton bass (that has surprisingly decent wood/build quality, looks cool, is comfy, and was the cheapest 5 string I could get) with passive pickups and active preamps anyone worth their salt told me to yeet tf out that preamp and get some good passive pickups and pots and make it a decent passive instrument. Their explanation was that anything the built in active preamps do can be done by stompbox preamps, but way, way better, and that any studio engineer would curse out artificially boosted bass and trebles in a shitty way that is always the case with built in active preamps, they just don't do any good, ever, they only mess up a good clean passive tone. Now, if I were to go for active pickups, that is a totally different discussion that is totally worth exploring, and a matter of taste/needs what you prefer. But especially for recordings in a studio, active preamps with a passive pickups are a definite, absolute NOPE and just use a stompbox preamp if you really think the passive tone is somehow not enough. You will have way more control and better results that way. Or if you really want an active preamp, then you want active pickups, too, otherwise it just makes no sense whatsoever and you will get a mess that is hard to work with when mixing.
Why does my bass sound so bad? No I don’t need to replace the strings, they’ve been on there for 20 years and they still sound fine! No I don’t think my tetanus is linked to my rusty strings. Yeah I know they cut my fingers every time I play but the gunk keeps the funk bro
Not a sound engineer so can't help you with the first question, but on the subject of how to tie your shoes, use the same method you did when choosing between a guitar and a bass, and go with velcro or slip-ons.
Thank you Glenn and thank you rid guitars, I really want to support a guitar maker that makes it simpler and easier to play guitar, amazing work the both of you ❤️
Finally got to see that axe! And I hate it 😆😆 But I don't have to play it, so it doesn't matter. Thanks for redoing the vid so we could actually see it, though. That's a top-tier move. Also great to see the guys respond to your issues with multiple fixes! Definitely puts them on the map for me if I'm ever looking to drop that kind of money on a guitar. Positive response to valid criticism and good customer service go a hell of a long way and I wish more companies would behave like that. I'm the first one to say "the customer is NOT always right," and they're not, but this is right way to deal with complaints from both you and them. Cheers!
This video was much better than the last… glad to see you living up to your own words and even better that Ruf joined in… solidifying the relationship between you, them and us as the audiences
POLKA WILL NEVER DIE!!!! Wonder how many people will know what that's from? It's crazy how good composits have gotten. I'm glad to see a less distracting re-upload and glad to hear the company is growing.
Hey man it was fun concept for sure, it doesn't always land. good on you for taking the critique on the chin though. Anyone who involved in anything creative can tell you. sometimes it just doesn't translate
Much better! I really appreciate your openness to constant improvement! Was also nice to see the manufacturer listening to your input. This video just goes to show that people can be critical but not be dicks, and in the end everyone improves.
I appreciate your honesty. The reviews are always to the point and accurate. In this case, the guitar is great. The video effects only draw away if the viewer allows it to do so. I watched the original review, I probably even commented (though I can’t remember). Every now and again, something will go wrong. You’ve had more good videos than bad ones. This might be one that you’ve learned about your audience from.
I was one of the ones who made a comment on that video regarding there being too many effects. Glad you're willing to listen to feedback, both positive and negative, and make changes accordingly. And the review's much MUCH better without those effects.
Fair play to you Glenn, not many people, particularly in the public eye, would admit when they messed up and do something about it. The guitar looks awesome! And I'm blown away by the guys at Ruf. Not only do they seem too build great guitars, but they also listen to their customers and are will to make adjustments based on their feedback. It's like they actually want people to buy their guitars...There's quite a few big guitar companies that could do with adopting this ethos.
Hey Glenn, your reviews are amazing! There's a few small hand-built channels on YT that are trying to build their brand, Tornelli Guitars and Sweet T Guitars. I HIGHLY recommend checking them out, as their craftsmanship is immaculate!!!
Big props to both Glenn and Ruf for addressing issues quickly and not getting butthurt about it. I do videos and constantly have to make adjustments even when I think I have it right. 🤘🏼
In Flames just did a “rig rundown” video with Premier Guitar around the same time this one came out. It’s fifty-five minutes long, but it might answer some questions about their sound. Haven’t watched it yet, but I’m gonna check it out after this one and see if they mention what kinds of speakers they use. Thank you for admitting your mistakes and staying true to us and yourself, Glenn. Cheers!
Great video! First, great to see the actual guitar! Ruf did a damn fine job and I'm not a big Vee fan. Second, nice to someone on YT admit they screwed up. Not just the error but the how and why. Good on you, Glenn! Third, and last, good on RUF that they took your advice and modified the guitars, and went far beyond what most makers would do. I mean, TWO jacks. GTFO! That's awesome! Great to see a maker be so responsive to player's voices about their needs. Keep up the good work, both of you!
I love that blue! And i love the fact that Ruff acknowledged the problems and made a solution. It just shows that they take pride in wanting their customers satisfied.
Absolutely fantastic video all round Although I didn't leave a comment at the time, I was also distracted by the bluescreen effect on the guitar. But to see the immediate, honest and 100% sincere response from Glen, as well as the amazing response from Ruf guitars - that's how the world SHOULD BE! We're all human, we all do things that, in hindsight, are maybe not optimal. And the ability to go out afterwards and say 'yep, I hear you, I got that wrong' - just amazing. Although I'm a Brit, I suspect people worldwide might agree with me when I say that I wish our politicians were even 1% as honest and able to say they got it wrong... Two thumbs up, and keep up the amazing work.
Great video Glen! I was looking at a Ref guitar the other day. I believe that a composite/carbon is the perfect guitar if done right. Thanks for posting this. Mine is ordered!!
I really want this company to succeed, and for the industry to adopt their standards. I am sick of how it caters to tonewood snobs and even sicker of dealing with the hassle of an unsealed fretboard and the host of issues from travelling from and living in a high-humidity environment. Graphite/carbon rods can only do so much, and they can't prevent improperly cured wood (I am looking at YOU, FMIC) from shrinking over time. Ruffaine, and similar materials, as well as ruf's manufacturing processes, should be an industry standard.
What a killer guitar!!! I love the colour and the finish. Cool graphic on the back too. It was great to see Ruf guitars respond to your video. I am so keen to look into them. Low action is so hard to accomplish without compromises. Your reviews are so entertaining and I love your honesty. You're a legend Glenn and I love your Pink Panther riffage. Keep up the awesome content dude. One question, it looked pretty light, how heavy is it?
I found it very refreshing to hear you be critical of yourself and live up to your mistakes. It's such a common thing for people to double down instead of just saying 'yeah that was dumb sorry'. You're usually a bit of a loudmouth (lol which I usually quite enjoy) , so it's nice to see that you can own up to something like this. It's also nice for people to see that even people who are very experienced make mistakes all the time. So many people act like they are above that when in real life no one is above mistakes. If people would follow that personality model the world would be sooooo much better. Cheers 🤘
Was going to refute the JP Turbo album comment but remembered the many, many times I popped the door lock on my best friend's Honda to rewind the cassette to the first track and force him to hear it. Got to the point he tossed the cassette out of the car somewhere along I-64. Thanks Glen, for helping me relive hilarious pastimes.
I appreciate them trying to make the improvements. The multiple jack outputs is awesome. However they put themselves from one bad situation in to another by moving the strap button to the spot your hand would need to be. You can see see him trying to avoid it too when he puts his hand there and flips the guitar. The benefit of the V is having all that open space for people with big hands. Either way I love the look of this guitar. They did a killer job on it. Really hoping to see them get big!
Great video! Wish there were a few more visual effects used on the guitar. Seems like you swung completely different way and used that boring black 😂. The Ruff company response was really great to see!
Wow! The way the guys at Ruf responded to your suggestions is fantastic. Some big American guitar companies that might want to try doing that. Maybe instead of spending their time on filing BS lawsuits against the competition.
I enjoyed the first video you did on this guitar. Though I did wonder the whole time what the actual guitar looked like. Thanks for showing it again Glen, maybe in the future a combination of effects from green/bluescreep display the guitar like you're holding Simba to show the actual gear, then VFX it up.
Coming from someone who mostly only ever listens to your videos on my way to work, I didn't even know what happened lol. However, listening to your videos has taught me so much and helped me retain the information without being distracted by the visual. I loved all the riffs you played in this guitar review and enjoyed them equally both times, lol. I think you did an amazing job to take on people's thoughts and redo your review. Well done, Glenn, you Rock!!! P.s I need to watch this now so I can see this amazing guitar, haha.
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that does that! I also tend to get distracted by visuals. For some reason just listening makes stuff sink in better. Unless it's a topic that requires visuals.
Matte Blue Screen Blue is a kickass color and I can also see using it in a show where the big screen displays other crap all over it. Like explosions and lightning and stuff.
Man, someone admiting to doing something dumb (come on, we all do dumb stuff sometimes) and being really sincere about it? This is something I haven't seen for a while on youtube.
I didn’t now you were in Windsor. I’m just across the river in Dearborn. I play in a blues band and we have a gig this Saturday in Canton. If you’re looking for something to do…..
There’s just something with Japanese and Polish made guitars. Like the amount of care and attention spent on them are insane. Exactly why I ordered a Skervesen. Love the content Glen!
It’s always nice to see some integrity on the internet. Thank you. Now, knowing there is a risk of being called a super nerd here….the Willow series actually aired the full first season. Then mysteriously disappeared from the streaming service altogether. Controversial take, but I actually really liked it lol
Usually, a repositioning of the strap peg by the neck can eliminate most if not all neck dive. Usually, right in the middle of where the neck plate on a bolt on is the sweet spot for Vs.
Love the guitar! Hate the colour, doubled down with the same colour fretboard! Yeah, I know, blue screen blue, loved the first video by the way lol The yellow looks cool..... Wow, didn´t they listen you your recommendations! Geeze! Thats what you call listening to AND acting on those comments! Great job guys! By the way, does it BB? 🥰
Man, these new composite guitars make me really wish I had bought a Parker Fly back in the early 2000s. I always wanted one, but thought they were overpriced. After checking out the Ruf guitars website....oh, how wrong I was. Wish I could afford one of these, they look awesome!
No kidding. It's hard to see a glossy, black guitar. They are damn near invisible onstage. I like the black satin look. No blinding gloss and you can actually see the guitar.
I always have a 90° cable on the guitar. I just dont like the straight plug sticking out. I don't know if it's a thing or not, but I just feel like it stresses the cable connector a little. I even use them on strats like that. I love that they have two jack options on the upgrade.
I use that blues pattern at around 7:30 as a bass line in the lead breaks on one of my songs. Got copyright claimed by Rave Man, which uses the Batman theme blues run, not the same TH-cam! 😡
I would love to see a review of Xaviere Guitars. I have a Pro555 Les Paul copy with a Chloyd Rose and my experience with it has been very positive, but I'd like to see what Glenn thinks of it.
I found the old vid a little annoying but I forget if I commented or not. I love the looks of the guitar and like the fact the guys took your suggestions and improved the guitars. I LOVE those Dunlop flush mounts!! I just looked them up and they seem pretty easy to install and I would install them mostly at the stock points in most of my pointier guitars. It's going to be a little expensive but if I slowly buy a couple here and there it won't seem like a big drain on my wallet. As far as adding the Fender style jack I am sure it something you could do yourself you seem to have the smarts to do it. I am sure you could add the flush mount Dunlop locks yourself. If your not up to it I am sure you know someone up there that could do it for you. I have seen some people installing wireless systems in their guitars just by talking the ones you plug in to the jack taking them apart and installing them in the control cavity. A project I am going to attempt in the near future.
But, you did show it...at the very end for enough frames that I could pause to get a good view of the blue. I thought it was a clever video, but figured you'd do a follow up to fully show it. I guess this is it! 😀
I recently modified my Strat to be more ergonomic when sitting. To do that I had to move the Football Jack to the back of guitar due to the removed wood. Not too hard to do with some planning, and it works surprisingly well in that location. My guitar has one pickup, a Humbucker in the Bridge location. With the Mods I've made, it only weighs 6 pounds 10 ounces/2.9 kilos. There is a YT video by Phil McKnight: "Kiesel A2 With Scalloped Fretboard" that shows where they located a Football Jack on the back of a Strat type guitar. I used approximately the same location.
It's really freaking awesome to see a company respond to constructive criticism from the community so quickly! Really puts "other manufacturers" to shame, as it should
Builder has my vote! Well done sir!
My thoughts exactly. With that kind of response, they clearly care about making a quality product and are humble enough to accept feedback.
Turned out to be great for ruf, this video is getting a much better reach.
“You don’t need to put other manufacturers in quotation marks.”
i was gunna comment the same thing!

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that does that! I also tend to get distracted by visuals. For some reason just listening makes stuff sink in better. Unless it's a topic that requires visuals.
100% mate :-) I'm glad to know it works for you too.
Humility?!?! In 2024!!?!?! We need more of this. Thank you, Glen.
Matte Blue Screen Blue is a kickass color and I can also see using it in a show where the big screen displays other crap all over it. Like explosions and lightning and stuff.
The Drive thru gag is a classic in my ears. AAAAHHHHHHHH!!! lol I have that cassette somewhere. Thanks for all your vides, dude. ✌
I think Glen's inability to shred actually helps the review of the guitar, theres no tricks or licks, just the tone on display with simple notes
Company response was super awesome!!!
Usually, a repositioning of the strap peg by the neck can eliminate most if not all neck dive. Usually, right in the middle of where the neck plate on a bolt on is the sweet spot for Vs.
I liked the visual effects one... It gave it a suspence vibe!
That’s a terrible idea. What time !
Ruf really acted fast with the suggestion 🤘🏽. Ahh the joys of a small dedicated group! 😊
Oh Man,that Ruf V is so cool,You deserve it brotha.👍
Awesome shirt mate! Was at that gig, MoR 86!
Man, these new composite guitars make me really wish I had bought a Parker Fly back in the early 2000s. I always wanted one, but thought they were overpriced. After checking out the Ruf guitars website....oh, how wrong I was. Wish I could afford one of these, they look awesome!
3:00 WOW, didn't expect a St Anger x Load cover I made like 5 years ago to appear here, wonder how you found it hahahaha.
No kidding. It's hard to see a glossy, black guitar. They are damn near invisible onstage. I like the black satin look. No blinding gloss and you can actually see the guitar.
This makes me want to buy a RUF guitar. Let’s hope this brand takes off
Superb breakthrough. Nicely done, sir.
I always have a 90° cable on the guitar. I just dont like the straight plug sticking out. I don't know if it's a thing or not, but I just feel like it stresses the cable connector a little. I even use them on strats like that. I love that they have two jack options on the upgrade.
Full blue looks great ❤
I'm really interested to check out one of those Ruf guitars
I play a black flying v with coil taps and I'm in a country band. You nailed it.
I use that blues pattern at around 7:30 as a bass line in the lead breaks on one of my songs. Got copyright claimed by Rave Man, which uses the Batman theme blues run, not the same TH-cam! 😡
Good stuff Glenn i didn't care too much, watched the video to get informed of guitars that are out there and the visual stuff didn't even register.
Awesome that they improved from the feedback. Looks cool.
I would love to see a review of Xaviere Guitars. I have a Pro555 Les Paul copy with a Chloyd Rose and my experience with it has been very positive, but I'd like to see what Glenn thinks of it.
“Let’s see if it can do the metal.”
Well played sir, well played.
Good ol canadian boy here
Cheers from 🇨🇦 🤟🤟
Great choice of sample riffs!
I love the updated camo one. That’s a bad ass guitar!
Nah, it was a good meme. Appreciate the fact that you commit to the bit all the way through
Last time I checked, Ruf was a tuner for Porsche cars. Also, this guitar looks like a Solar.
I love it!
But, you did show it...at the very end for enough frames that I could pause to get a good view of the blue. I thought it was a clever video, but figured you'd do a follow up to fully show it. I guess this is it! 😀
Great Respond from ruf you love to see it
I recently modified my Strat to be more ergonomic when sitting.
