We just have to accept that Mercedes will never be as good anymore as the w123, w124, and w201. Those were Mercedes at the top of their doing, everything after simply went downhill.

After being idle for 13 years and it starts that well and the first time, the OM601 is fantastic, what a great engine and how hard. It is a bit high from idle and seems to be blowing a little through the oil fill plug, which is why it stopped.
@@Chr.U.Cas2216 Absolutely correct! I tend to go with those because they're newer, some of the last overengineered yet more mechanical platforms. The W140 is still a great platform, but it's got a lot of electronics, prone to problems. Likewise to you, friend! Have a great day! 😉
Brought this exact model a few years ago. Was idle for about 10-12 years. Went to pick it up, made sure that everything from oil to wheels and all the other neccesities are alright. Tried to turn it on, started from first try without delay. The only thing I changed was a belt that cost me about 10-20 euros. I believe it was the accesory belt that only made a screeching noise. Other than that, perfect condition. 450.000 km, still running impecable. Went up to 180-200km/h on the highway, stable af. One of the best cars ever. Reliable af. Built like a tank. If taken proper care of, will easly run over 1 milion mileage.
Now I miss my 1992 200d Mercedes! 🥺 It was such a great car, 550.000 km on the odometer and going like new, it was still able to reach 170km/h like a champ! Made my biggest mistake selling it in nearly perfect condition for less than 1000€... All it wanted was a new paintjob.
Late 80s or early to mid 90s 200D. Great and underrated find, man! Classic and solid. Can't ever beat these bulletproof old Benz cars, like the sturdiness of any old car from this time. I remember being a kid and seeing these brand new, in the late 90s. Nostalgic!

It's a really solid car that's true to the basics. After repairing, it will probably be fine even if it travels around the world. Whether jungle or desert... @@jamestravis1037 I had a 2005 Mercedes slk 200 kompressor with the problematic timing chain issues and when I seen the chain and how thin it was I thought that it would not be suitable for a child's bicycle utterly feeble design luckily I still have a 1995 E320 Sportline coupe which is a proper Mercedes unlike the glorified Renault Megane's they make now
OM601! One of the most reliable engines ever built! Getting 500,000 kms on one of those is just a walk in the park, lol. And look at how quickly it starts! Classic authentic-German made reliability right there.

Erst in februar 2002 ist das Problem behoben, beim wechsel von W210 zu W211. 10 verlorene Jahren wegen Bakterien im Lackbad.. Nicht nur die E klasse war davon betroffen, auch die anderen modellen mehr oder weniger ab 1993, vorallem die C klasse W202 und W203 vormopf hatte auch sehr ernste Rostprobleme, ab 1993 bis 2004, für die C klasse war das problem also zusammen mit der modelpflege ab april 2004 behoben.

That's normal on old Diesels, when you have mechanical injection, you can even remove the battery while it's running.

To be honest , 300D w124 has better sound engine than audi rs4 or bmw x5 and I'm still using it with more than 600k km
