Years ago, I wasn't sure how much I would like or use a neck knife, but I'm a fixed blade guy and I figured it was worth a shot. I got 2 versions of the CRKT Minimalist and the SPEW. I liked the Minis but not the SPEW, so I gave it away. Got an Izula and a Cold Steel and love both of them, so the Minis got put into kits. Just got a QSP Neckmuk recently and I am digging it too. I don't always EDC a neck knife, but they are definitely a handy tool in many scenarios.

I love my little Gerber Bear Grills paracord knife. I replaced the Orange paracord with Black and scraped the Orange off the sheath, then I took the belt clip off and put paracord on it to wear it around my neck.
Under $25 bucks and it's a great little blade.

Just started wearing a neck knife about 2 months ago an esee Xancudo. Just came out this year with s35vn. Used to just carry my benchmade barrage. Used to think neck knives were silly. Boy was I wrong. I use it all the time. Still have my barrage on me and a leatherman. Can't have too many tools on you. I do like that spyderco. Being in Michigan humidity and water is everywhere be nice to have a knife that will never rust.

  • @stevengalindo6249
    @stevengalindo6249 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I started my neck knife journey with the CRKT drop point. It had great ergonomics for such a small knife but not enough blade to use as a slicer. It also didn't hold an edge well. Then I went to the Cold steel bird and fish. It is really a great value and a good all around neck knife. I just had problems with it rusting since I carried it 24/7 while backpacking and sweat all over it every day. My current go to is the White River which I chose over the ESEE. I would have to say it is as perfect an all around knife as you can get. Shaving sharp out of the box and holds a great edge. It's ergonomics are perfect for me. I love the wrapped grip, but if you do a lot of skinning it could get funky really fast. So far only one tiny rust spot which I buffed out with some lube.

The tops Alligator alley makes a great multi purpose neck knife! Seriously thats my edc neck knife. It works as a small knife, a gigging spear, a bottle opener, a wire stripper and wire/fence breaker, a pot lifter, a prybar, a large flathead screwdriver/scraper and even an ok can opener in a pinch. And probably more things I haven't tried.

Let's not forget Cold Steel's "Bird & Trout" & "Bird & Game" neck knives, each with a finger hole. The latter is slightly larger & has some molded on handle material to make it more comfortable to hold in cold conditions. While I wear the "Minimalist" drop point religiously as my EDC, I use either of the Cold Steel neck knives additionally when I hunt or fish!!! I wore the little "Bird & Game today to gut a 13" Brown Trout that I caught & cooked for lunch.

There's at least one important omission here - the Ruike F815 Hornet. It's about the size of the BK11/BK14, and has a broad-ish drop-point blade with a high flat grind, swedge, and distal taper, made from 14C28N steel. It is a cutting, slicing, and piercing champion. And the ergos are very good. It has a skeletonized, curved handle with an integral choil/guard, and matching skeletonized G-10 scales, and everything is chamfered for comfort. Bonus: It comes with a removable, multi-position belt clip. All this for $46.

I need something with a latch. couple of these knifes on the this list just keep falling out of the sheath on their own. For my work i use them several times a day and it's worn out the latching groves or tabs of the knife. My last high end neck knife fell out of the sheeth in the couch and I didn't find it till the next day.
These things all get worn out and it could've seriously injured my 4 year old son who plays on the couch which is where the knife fell out.
These need a mechanism like a latch for more than daily users.

Maybe it's just my observation David but perhaps from the sales perspective I can bet you medium sized to smaller knives are on the rise. I own two neck knives David, one from the Spartan co. and the other from Blackhawk co. The Enryo from Spartan is an amazing neck knife from different perspectives. This knife is really sharp, holds an amazing edge when resharpened and can also serve for self defense purposes, all though It's not the largest but boy can this knife cut and stab. Now my review on the Blackhawk's neck knife is it's definitely built for military purposes like concealment, sharpness and self defense besides survival. The Blackhawk is also serrated which helps woth bushcrafting if you choose.

Huge fan of neck knives and regularly wear one.
My favourites tend to be affordable in the extreme, however the down side with those is poor quality sheath finishing which makes them over bulky. So while the knife and handle are perfect sizes and shapes you suddenly get a whack off slab of kydex which looks and feels daft.
I tend to go with a cold steel "secret edge" worn on a 45 degree slant. While that sounds crazy it's really nor when you raise your hand to draw the handle is in the most ergonomic position and feels far better than a vertical draw.
Neck knives are great and hope to se more of these videos in future

The most useful, user friendly knife I carry is that izula in 440c with tkc scales. It’s almost perfect. A four inch blade would made it perfect. I bought a Becker 14 for the bigger blade and minutely bigger handle and I am not a fan. The secondary bevel on the blade was not the same angle so it was way off and the black coating made it impossible to fix with a wet stone. So I stripped the coating off the blade and evened it out. I still don’t like it. The blade isn’t very functional IMO.

With the "printed blade" version it's not 5Cr15MoV instead it's upgrade to 8Cr13MoV that is standard.
Actually all three of the printed blade versions are 8Cr13MoV and not 5Cr15MoV.

I wish esse would do a hollow grind izula version so it would slice better also the minimalist crkt needs to add a better steal cause they are garbage if you plan on cutting more then one thing even if it’s only D2 to keep price down I’d happily pay

I really hope that Spyderco makes an ARK in LC200N. It's been a popular design, so I think it would be a mistake if they didn't

Not bad for general purpose, but it works great at its intended uses, i.e. whittling especially.
