Love my 4 max scout 62 rq cold steel knife for my favorite heavy use knife. My EDC knife is the Snubby cqc 14 from Emerson with a full size handle and city legal just under 3 inch blade I am very happy with it. I love the grippy scales on both these knives even when my hands were wet.
Best wishes to all and stay safe.

Excellent choices all ! I`ve owned several of these over the years. Cold Steel`s Triad lock is THE BEAST among folder locks, I`ve never seen a better one. In my pockets right now: Zero Tolerance ZT-0350 in CPM-SV30 (my Go-To knife for the last 10 years), and a Spyderco Manix 2 in CPM 20CV. Gibbs` Rule Number Nine: Never go anywhere without a knife !

    • @donspruill

I never watched NCIS, until I found it on HULU or something. Then I watched 15 seasons. I became aware of Leroy Jethro Gibbs rule number nine. I got myself a Kershaw ZT knife with tiger strips and never go anywhere without a knife.

Both great heavy duty knives. I carry one of my manix-2s, either a S30V or S110V almost daily and my TUFF gets to go often too.
My ZT 0350 gets its share of pocket time as well.
      Ditto for my 0561.
My Cold Steel ultimate hunter in CTS-XHP is in rotation as is my rajah-3 AUS-8A.
My Ontario RAT-1 in D2 usually rides backup to my manix-2 most days and my Real Steel H6-S1 gets the nod when i want to run light.
When our on the town my Viper Odino, Benchmade 908 stryker or 581 barrage, Boker titan worker, Kizer Ki401X1 or MCUSTA 114D tsuchi gets the nod.
Isnt it great to have a knife collection to choose from every morning!

As an 'Under $100' buyer, I've been extremely impressed with the Kizer Justice (partially serrated version) as a "hard use" folder. It's slim enough to easily carry, has plenty of drop point blade, and has a large enough handle to grip comfortably. Has smooth washer opening via thumb studs or flipper and just feels great.

Excellent presentation as always, DCA! I'd call the Cold Steel AD15 LIte a good "hard use" folder, since the tighter one grips its Scorpion lock, the more secure it gets. Though as I'm no metallurgist, I can't speak to the robustness/rust resistance of the AUS10A steel.

  • @dannysees
    @dannysees 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Ability for lock to self-adjust after some stress and torque, blade tang thickness and width near pivot, thick closed-back handles, stout tip, etc. should be priority but are lacking on a lot of the ones marketed for hard use.
You don't want fidget friendly bearings for the pivot or an easy to disengage liner/frame lock. Before you get one of those thinking it's beastly, see how skinny the cut out is...check if it's harder than a typical, dime a dozen D2 flipper to disengage. Likely a tiny bit better when it comes to slipping but not by much...especially with some oil, fat, water, etc. on the knife. You especially don't want a super steel blade liner/frame lock. That's making the surface more likely to slip than a AUS10, VG10, 154CM level or lower steel blade.

Good list. I’d definitely add the CRKT Clever girl folder though.

Nice over built knife is the benchmade loco or mini loco which is not that mini. Built like a tank with with premium materials and feels great in the hand with the curved handle. Too bad it's no longer in production but do edc the mini quite often in my rotation

I'd throw in the Coldsteel Voyager. Especially for the cost!! $60. You wouldnt feel guilty for thrashing on it.

I had one for hard daily use and it was great. But too large as a pocket knife for me.

Folders are for occasions where you would not be expecting to use it other than open a letter, cut a cord, open a package and for dress up occasions. Ranching, farming, camping, tradesmen, or expeditions require a more solid cutting platform. IMO only.

Well that would depend on the folder CS folder are good hard use knives but I think a good and strong folder best use is for self defense

Hey Knifecenter! I’m trying to find some knives that have a safety stay-closed feature and also a flipper. Could you help?

You missed the Spyderco Manix 2 XL. Definitely one tough knife.

We went with the Shaman instead for this list. Without any empirical evidence, it is a toss-up on strength of the Compression Lock vs Ball-Bearing Lock, but the blade on the Shaman is a little more stout than the Manix 2 XL. Both are awesome hard-working knives though!

Great vid as always. 4max is spelled wrong in the description so this video does not come up in searches.
