It even goes beyond christianity. In the Indian chakra system, seven is the crown chakra, meaning while 1-6 are about modes of our body, 7 is the gateway to the heavenly realms, the white light where the color frequencies of the other six chakras mix. We can deduct from that that true wholeness of being is not a mere collection of properties, but a harmonious merging/unity of them all. Only when we create a contrast to all of the material realm can we understand that realm properly.

The original shows humility that we’re being led by god, through good and bad. Not woke up and got a pop quiz on ethics. Oh and you forgot the closing! Examples: hallowed literally means holy The End of the prayer we commonly use isnt in the original text or even accurate English translations. It is an addition to the ritual prayer format from church tradition.

The first petition is not simply for God's name to be recognized as holy, with God passively waiting for it to happen, but that God would _cause_ his name to be hallowed.

Yes. I just tried to find what translation they were using (not knowing that they used their own translation) and 30+ different translations I looked at (on a website that shows different translations of Bible verses) all used “heaven” or “heavens.” I don’t know which is a better translation, but it seems like every other translation team thinks “heaven/heavens” is better.
"in the skies" is a poor translation, limiting it to the mere physical sky. Nor is it a metaphor. In Hebrew (shamayim) and Greek (ouranos) - as in English - "the heavens" has many meanings, inc. Heaven.

It struck me once that, in as much as we're willing to accomplish our Father's will here on Earth, our Earth will be like heaven. Are we waiting on Him or is He waiting on us?
This reminded me of a passage from the Gospel of Thomas: (113) (1) His disciples said to him: “The kingdom - on what day will it come?” (2) “It will not come by watching (and waiting for) it. (3) They will not say: ‘Look, here!’ or ‘Look, there!’ (4) Rather, the kingdom of the Father is spread out upon the earth, and people do not see it.”

Father’s will is being done on Earth now, just not in the same way as in Heaven. “Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. There's a lot of potential subjects here. I'm usually pretty critical of these videos. Not that they aren't good, but that I find Christians to be remarkably annoying people. 😂 That was a reasonably good explanation of the "Our Father" prayer. Two issues stick out: 1. What kind of God/father/leader picks favorites out of his children/followers & gives them blatent favoritism like he supposedly does the Jews? Not fair. 2. If God knows our thoughts, even before we have them, and if God's will is to be done, then prayer: A) Insults God's intelligence, & B) Kind of odd to ask a perfect God to not follow through on his perfect plan. Therefore prayer by definition is disobedience; an attempt to thwart God's will.

Love what you guys do, but had some trouble with this translation. The Lord’s Prayer is pretty universally recognized in the American Standard or King James translations, and has an old world poetic quality about it: our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name… Would love to see this breakdown referencing that translation.
I wish you had spent more time on the forgiving our debts part. As believers, all of our sins (debts) have been forgiven and put away as far as the East is from the west, God having forgotten them. Yes, we should be forgiving others, of course, but if we don’t forgive someone, it doesn’t means our sins aren’t forgiven anymore. It doesn’t mean we have to beg God for forgiveness. Yes, we need to confess that we are unforgiving and change. But this is Jesus teaching how impossible it is to keep the Law without Him. Without Him forgiving us first, there’s no human way to forgive others. It’s a tough passage that requires much study and cross referencing to get the correct context and interpretation. Otherwise it leads to bad theology.
1:35 I’m not sure it is just a metaphor… since Jesus ascended in the skies, and did not vanished into another dimension or passed through a spiritual portal… ancient believers thought heavens were beyond our sky so why should we believe something else? And Jesus is supposed to come back just as he left, from the sky… it appears in the scripture like it’s a physical description of where is heaven and not a metaphorical one… But nowadays, people are ok with the mystification of original teachings I guess… just like we call all heavenly creatures angels while angel was just a function… a function probably some humans had… but I digress…

Hi, I have been going crazy over how God's works often have numerical relations this past day, and I was focused on the number 12 [and 7]. I remember learning that it represents coming into full completion, just like the 12 tribes of Israel, the 12 disciples, the lady who bled for 12 years being healed by Jesus at the time when He raised the 12-year-old girl from death... and just popped into my brain the fact that a full year takes 12 months. Now seeing your comment that after 12 years of being a catholic scholar the foundation of our relationship with God our Father, prayer, having been understood more by you, made me more elated He truly is wonderous
I come here seeking help with a question of faith and pray that someone has proper guidence. Is Paul a legitimate source on the lord, or did he co-opt the words of Jesus for himself? I have seen strong arguments that Paul not only contradicts Christ, but also is possibly one of the false teachers that Christ warned us about. So my question is Paul to be trusted and is there anything that truley validates his claims other than just Paul's word?
Why do you always change the meaning of things? I'm confused. Jesus said "deliver us from test," but now you're saying it means "deliver us from the evil one who doesn't want us to accept the test." That doesn't make sense to me. I think it means exactly what it says - protect us from tests and from Satan, who gives us these tests.

"13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen." You know you could have inserted this part as well and finish the prayer as it should be finished, and not finish the prayer with the Evil One!🙂
The only reason that most theologians, scholars, and teachers don't finish it with that is because it's NOT in the earliest manuscripts and you can find a footnote in your bible saying that part was added later. Hope this helps! God bless you

We refuse to practice cunning or to TAMPER with GOD’S WORD, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God. Please refer and speak of Heaven as Heaven. And the Lord’s Prayer is; Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Love your content, and discovering a seven in this prayer was awesome! I must say "Father of the skies" sounds a bit generalized and less emphatically intelligible as compared to the word "Heaven". The Greek word for 'Heaven' is "Oὐρανοῖς" (Ouranos). Some interesting word origin trivia - 'Ouranos', also known to the Romans as Uranus, is the primordial Greek god of the sky. He serves in the role from the beginning of existence, predating Zeus as the god of the sky. Once Zeus takes over, Ouranos' role shifts to being the personification of the sky rather than the god of it. Heaven (n.) Old English heofon "home of God," earlier "the visible sky, firmament," probably from Proto-Germanic *hibin-, a dissimilation of *himin- (source also of Low German heben, Old Norse himinn, Gothic himins, Old Frisian himul, Dutch hemel, German Himmel "heaven, sky"), which is of uncertain and disputed origin. We associate "skies" as the general space above us, it includes a lot of empty space and the clouds, stars, or flying things we can see, which don't represent the house of the Lord. But when we say "Heaven" we mean a tangible realm where God resides - but one could say God is omnipresent and exists everywhere. I can see why you used the word 'skies' (heard your podcast) and I also see why this translation ruffles some feathers. Paul mysteriously points out to the various levels of heavens, and Isaiah speaks of the magnificent train of His robe filling the temple. I would definitely imagine 'Heaven' as a more definitive and tangible abode of the Lord, and the 'skies' as the generic space/direction in which this realm exists. "Father of the skies" sounds like an incomplete reference, not one we would use in our prayers either, so it seems less appealing as a translation/word choice.

So far, whenever I see the word in the Bible "Heavens", it includes the part of the Heavens that no living human, has seen with their eyes. "Heaven." Bible Hub shows every version using the word "Heaven", or "Heavens" (including Heaven), in all the versions. in Matt 6:9. So, is your conclusion that vs 9 is talking about the "skies" (above and beyond humans in every category...), rather than him meaning "Heaven" the way Jesus ordinarily would, a conclusion based only on the fact that it might be surprising to some, that he directs our thoughts to Heaven so many times consecutively, in a short prayer? Or, does the original language, use a completely different word, different than every new and old English version, in that verse? If not, so far, I'll stick with my belief that he simply is directing our thoughts to Heaven and all it entails, 3, probably 4 times, in a very short prayer, because that's what he was all about. Most people alive back then, talked about death, and where they will go when they leave the Earth, way more often than most believers do today, no matter what their religion was. The result of all his children coming together in him with no more interruption or distraction ever again, is of course, his favorite thought by far . Some say he mentioned the word Heaven, at least 50-70 times, in the book of Mathew.
In Greek, the same word - οὐρανός (ouranos) - is used for the atmosphere, the starry sky, and the spiritual heavens, just like πνεῦμα (pneuma), is used for spirit, wind and breath.

I’m not sure about Bible Project anymore. I don’t like the translation you guys used. Saying “in the skies” does not have the same tone of reverence that “in heaven” has. They mean two totally separate things. In the skies, implying God is a a creature in the sky such as a bird or a plane ✈️ is in the sky? No, God is in heaven, He is in the heavenly place. Not simply just in our visible sky.

I really like what you've did here but the KJV is really embedded deeply within us all and i just want to know is there a reason you are leaving the KJV and trying to introduce us into this version? The messages here are very similar so I don't get it? Is something wrong with KJV?

People really don't like "in the skies". I thnk it sounds silly, but at least its better than the notion that heaven is way out in space somewhere. The verses that talk about it being up and about God coming down. But i think its more like a higher Divine Alternate Dimension.

"And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors." are not commands to do as much as they spell out the nature of faith. If God has forgiven me, and I've forgiven them, who is there left to judge? Being free from such judgment, I may now proceed as Jesus did by deferring judgment "to the one who judges justly" (1 Peter 2:23). The prayer then follows with the words, "Lead us." This is a disciple's response to Jesus' words, "Follow me." Then the prayer goes on, "not into temptation," where the law and judgment would take us. "But deliver us from evil." ("evil one" is a mis-translation). Because the only true evil, is to not know or walk with God (John 17:3).

It even goes beyond christianity. In the Indian chakra system, seven is the crown chakra, meaning while 1-6 are about modes of our body, 7 is the gateway to the heavenly realms, the white light where the color frequencies of the other six chakras mix. We can deduct from that that true wholeness of being is not a mere collection of properties, but a harmonious merging/unity of them all. Only when we create a contrast to all of the material realm can we understand that realm properly.

Please consider not watering it down. These statements were written a certain way to invoke something in us.
Your explanation of a “test” does not convey the same as the original. The original shows humility that we’re being led by god, through good and bad. Not woke up and got a pop quiz on ethics.

The first petition is not simply for God's name to be recognized as holy, with God passively waiting for it to happen, but that God would _cause_ his name to be hallowed.

I just tried to find what translation they were using (not knowing that they used their own translation) and 30+ different translations I looked at (on a website that shows different translations of Bible verses) all used “heaven” or “heavens.” I don’t know which is a better translation, but it seems like every other translation team thinks “heaven/heavens” is better.
You forgot "for yours the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory forever and ever." Amen.

That’s the doxology
"in the skies" is a poor translation, limiting it to the mere physical sky. Nor is it a metaphor. In Hebrew (shamayim) and Greek (ouranos) - as in English - "the heavens" has many meanings, inc. Heaven.

Who art in heaven, not in the skies
It struck me once that, in as much as we're willing to accomplish our Father's will here on Earth, our Earth will be like heaven. Are we waiting on Him or is He waiting on us?
This reminded me of a passage from the Gospel of Thomas:
(113)
(1) His disciples said to him: “The kingdom - on what day will it come?”
(2) “It will not come by watching (and waiting for) it.
(3) They will not say: ‘Look, here!’ or ‘Look, there!’
(4) Rather, the kingdom of the Father is spread out upon the earth, and people do not see it.”
Seems like He'll be waiting forever if that's the case. Isn't that why Jesus came? Because we couldn't do it am without God's intervention?

Where are you guys getting "in the skies" from? Doesn't Matthew 6:9 reference the word "heaven"?
I think they are using in the skies as a synonym for heaven. Maybe other translations also use in the skies as a synonym

What is "heaven"? Which word is used in Greek and what does it mean? Our word "heaven" in English is loaded with cultural assumptions.
They talk about this specifically in one of their podcast episodes but I can’t remember which one it is sorry. There is a reason which relates to the specific translation of the original writings

Father’s will is being done on Earth now, just not in the same way as in Heaven.

I HIGHLY recommend reading “Pray First” by Chris Hodges. He has a chapter on The Lord’s Prayer that has completely changed my prayer life.

There's a lot of potential subjects here. I'm usually pretty critical of these videos. Not that they aren't good, but that I find Christians to be remarkably annoying people. 😂
That was a reasonably good explanation of the "Our Father" prayer. Two issues stick out:
1. What kind of God/father/leader picks favorites out of his children/followers & gives them blatent favoritism like he supposedly does the Jews? Not fair.
2. If God knows our thoughts, even before we have them, and if God's will is to be done, then prayer:
A) Insults God's intelligence, &
B) Kind of odd to ask a perfect God to not follow through on his perfect plan. Therefore prayer by definition is disobedience; an attempt to thwart God's will.

Love what you guys do, but had some trouble with this translation. The Lord’s Prayer is pretty universally recognized in the American Standard or King James translations, and has an old world poetic quality about it: our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name… Would love to see this breakdown referencing that translation.
What version (NIV, ESV, NLT, etc.) of this prayer do you use for the video?
This video was a big AHA! moment for me, thanks.
I wish you had spent more time on the forgiving our debts part. As believers, all of our sins (debts) have been forgiven and put away as far as the East is from the west, God having forgotten them. Yes, we should be forgiving others, of course, but if we don’t forgive someone, it doesn’t means our sins aren’t forgiven anymore. It doesn’t mean we have to beg God for forgiveness. Yes, we need to confess that we are unforgiving and change. But this is Jesus teaching how impossible it is to keep the Law without Him. Without Him forgiving us first, there’s no human way to forgive others.
It’s a tough passage that requires much study and cross referencing to get the correct context and interpretation. Otherwise it leads to bad theology.

1:35 I’m not sure it is just a metaphor… since Jesus ascended in the skies, and did not vanished into another dimension or passed through a spiritual portal… ancient believers thought heavens were beyond our sky so why should we believe something else? And Jesus is supposed to come back just as he left, from the sky… it appears in the scripture like it’s a physical description of where is heaven and not a metaphorical one…
But nowadays, people are ok with the mystification of original teachings I guess… just like we call all heavenly creatures angels while angel was just a function… a function probably some humans had… but I digress…

Which Bible are you reading from, ‘Our Father who is in the skies’ is much different then ‘Our Father who art in Heaven’?

Hi, I have been going crazy over how God's works often have numerical relations this past day, and I was focused on the number 12 [and 7]. I remember learning that it represents coming into full completion, just like the 12 tribes of Israel, the 12 disciples, the lady who bled for 12 years being healed by Jesus at the time when He raised the 12-year-old girl from death... and just popped into my brain the fact that a full year takes 12 months. Now seeing your comment that after 12 years of being a catholic scholar the foundation of our relationship with God our Father, prayer, having been understood more by you, made me more elated

I come here seeking help with a question of faith and pray that someone has proper guidence. Is Paul a legitimate source on the lord, or did he co-opt the words of Jesus for himself? I have seen strong arguments that Paul not only contradicts Christ, but also is possibly one of the false teachers that Christ warned us about. So my question is Paul to be trusted and is there anything that truley validates his claims other than just Paul's word?

Why do you always change the meaning of things? I'm confused. Jesus said "deliver us from test," but now you're saying it means "deliver us from the evil one who doesn't want us to accept the test." That doesn't make sense to me. I think it means exactly what it says - protect us from tests and from Satan, who gives us these tests.

You know you could have inserted this part as well and finish the prayer as it should be finished, and not finish the prayer with the Evil One!🙂
The only reason that most theologians, scholars, and teachers don't finish it with that is because it's NOT in the earliest manuscripts and you can find a footnote in your bible saying that part was added later. Hope this helps! God bless you

@bibleproject I appreciate and love all your videos. Thank you 🙏🏼. But… why do you diminish Our Father / Jesus’ Kingdom- HEAVEN with “sky”? Sky is just the blue or black hue above us, but it is not Heaven. And as in II Corinthians 4:2 But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to TAMPER with GOD’S WORD, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God. Please refer and speak of Heaven as Heaven. And the Lord’s Prayer is;
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Love your content, and discovering a seven in this prayer was awesome! I must say "Father of the skies" sounds a bit generalized and less emphatically intelligible as compared to the word "Heaven".
The Greek word for 'Heaven' is "Oὐρανοῖς" (Ouranos). Some interesting word origin trivia - 'Ouranos', also known to the Romans as Uranus, is the primordial Greek god of the sky. He serves in the role from the beginning of existence, predating Zeus as the god of the sky. Once Zeus takes over, Ouranos' role shifts to being the personification of the sky rather than the god of it.
Heaven (n.)
Old English heofon "home of God," earlier "the visible sky, firmament," probably from Proto-Germanic *hibin-, a dissimilation of *himin- (source also of Low German heben, Old Norse himinn, Gothic himins, Old Frisian himul, Dutch hemel, German Himmel "heaven, sky"), which is of uncertain and disputed origin.
We associate "skies" as the general space above us, it includes a lot of empty space and the clouds, stars, or flying things we can see, which don't represent the house of the Lord. But when we say "Heaven" we mean a tangible realm where God resides - but one could say God is omnipresent and exists everywhere. I can see why you used the word 'skies' (heard your podcast) and I also see why this translation ruffles some feathers.
Paul mysteriously points out to the various levels of heavens, and Isaiah speaks of the magnificent train of His robe filling the temple. I would definitely imagine 'Heaven' as a more definitive and tangible abode of the Lord, and the 'skies' as the generic space/direction in which this realm exists. "Father of the skies" sounds like an incomplete reference, not one we would use in our prayers either, so it seems less appealing as a translation/word choice.

So far, whenever I see the word in the Bible "Heavens", it includes the part of the Heavens that no living human, has seen with their eyes. "Heaven."
Bible Hub shows every version using the word "Heaven", or "Heavens" (including Heaven), in all the versions.
in Matt 6:9.
So, is your conclusion that vs 9 is talking about the "skies" (above and beyond humans in every category...), rather than him meaning "Heaven" the way Jesus ordinarily would,
a conclusion based only on the fact that it might be surprising to some, that he directs our thoughts to Heaven so many times consecutively, in a short prayer?
Or, does the original language, use a completely different word, different than every new and old English version, in that verse?
If not, so far, I'll stick with my belief that he simply is directing our thoughts to Heaven and all it entails, 3, probably 4 times, in a very short prayer, because that's what he was all about.
Most people alive back then, talked about death, and where they will go when they leave the Earth, way more often than most believers do today, no matter what their religion was.
The result of all his children coming together in him with no more interruption or distraction ever again, is of course, his favorite thought by far .
Some say he mentioned the word Heaven, at least 50-70 times, in the book of Mathew.
In Greek, the same word - οὐρανός (ouranos) - is used for the atmosphere, the starry sky, and the spiritual heavens, just like πνεῦμα (pneuma), is used for spirit, wind and breath.

I’m not sure about Bible Project anymore. I don’t like the translation you guys used. Saying “in the skies” does not have the same tone of reverence that “in heaven” has. They mean two totally separate things. In the skies, implying God is a a creature in the sky such as a bird or a plane ✈️ is in the sky? No, God is in heaven, He is in the heavenly place. Not simply just in our visible sky.

People really don't like "in the skies". I thnk it sounds silly, but at least its better than the notion that heaven is way out in space somewhere. The verses that talk about it being up and about God coming down. But i think its more like a higher Divine Alternate Dimension.

"And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors." are not commands to do as much as they spell out the nature of faith. If God has forgiven me, and I've forgiven them, who is there left to judge? Being free from such judgment, I may now proceed as Jesus did by deferring judgment "to the one who judges justly" (1 Peter 2:23).
The prayer then follows with the words, "Lead us." This is a disciple's response to Jesus' words, "Follow me." Then the prayer goes on, "not into temptation," where the law and judgment would take us. "But deliver us from evil." ("evil one" is a mis-translation). Because the only true evil, is to not know or walk with God (John 17:3).
