    Those 149 mm Cannone beauties gave the Brits the runs! The Italians in North Africa did FAR better than conventional historians admit. To find out, read "Mussolini's War" from The Barnes Review Press.

      Noted. By the way, i just recently read "For God and Kaiser" by Richard Bassett about the austrian armies of the Habsburgs between 1619 and 1918. It also deals with a military unfairly downplayed by many.

      Tutto perche l'industria d'armi Italiana negli'anni 30 era debolissima, per esempio nell' 1939 solo 8% dei pezzi di artiglieria pesante desiderata era stata prodotta, semplicemente perche non c'era la capicita di produzione neccessaria.
      Questo fattore, insieme alla mancanza dell petroleo e` quello che costo` la guerra all'Italia. L'Italia era capace di giocare il gioco dei numeri (uomini), pero mancava l'equipaggo di tutti tipi....

      @@michelangelobuonarroti4958 Non tutti i nostri mezzi erano antiquati, è un po' un luogo comune che va avanti da 70 anni. Il problema principale non era l'incapacità di concepire buone armi, ma l'impossibiità di produrne in numero sufficiente e in tempi rapidi. Un problema di debolezza industriale certamente. Era più facile produrre un gran numero di armi obsolete, quelle buone richiedevano tempi più lunghi, per cui non ve ne erano abbastanza.

    • @michelangelobuonarroti4958
      @michelangelobuonarroti4958 4 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      Wrong. The Industry simply couldn't do better at all. Italy had 3 main problems: lack of good leadership, fuel, and equipment.
      The lack of good leadership could've been mitigated by playing the numbers game, which Italy certainly was capable of doing in 1940, with 250.000 in East Africa and 200.000 in Lybia (150.000 facing Egypt), but the lack of transport vehicles and fuel made it unsupplyable and unmovable in the desert, and the lack of equipment made it unfit for combat.
      They weren't trying to show anything. They were fighting a lost war from second 1, due to the opportunism of their Duce.
