I have an older Genie Chain Drive model CGC or PCG with series II electronics.
I have a keypad, two homelinks in cars, and a remote already programmed and working. When I try to add another remote, I can link it OK but then one of the homelinks in one of the cars quit working. When I reprogrammed the Homelink in the car, the remote I had just programmed quit working. Seems like the opener will only accept codes from four devices (but there may be previous remote codes from remote controls that quit working and were replaced, still stored in the opener )

I just received two replacements Garage Door Openers. There is a difference in the battery compartment. It will not open. The screwdriver in the slot is not working. I noticed that the area that is supposed to hinge, is solid across the back of the remote, there is no hinge or indentation to allow the battery door to fold up. I wonder if I got a set that are defective?

Okay, for starters...make sure remotes have good batteries. Strong batteries = Strong signal.
If you haven't cleared the memory on the opener itself, do it. Genie openers can get overloaded with codes. Which eventually will reduce remotes you try to program. It'll kick the previous one out because it's full.

grey button fails in high heat. Rubber wears down. If you pry up and slide out the metal clip, then remove philips screw you can access the circuit board and check the blue switch. I bet the blue switch is perfect, but if you look under the cover you'll see the grey rubber button and it will be almost melted/smashed looking. You can repair the rubber. 1st, use rubbing alcohol and qtip and wetten the center of the smashed rubber button that makes contact with the blue switch. Remold/Reshape it as best as you can with the alcohol/qtip to get it looking like it should. Let alcohol dry for 15 minutes. Next take a small flat head screw driver and super glue. Drop super glue drops onto the center of the smashed rubber that you reshaped, let the super glue run over the sides of the center triple point. Use the screw driver flat head to shape/coat all the rubber of the center point tri connection (the point that touches the blue switch). Once you have it built up and the rubber is firm from the super glue, let it dry for 2 hours. While you have it apart, clean the contacts of the battery terminals with alcohol, remove any blueish powder (corrosion), and if you have small steel wool, gently scratch the contact points where the battery touches. Securely hold the contactor for battery and slightly bend them toward each other, make sure you do not stress the soldered contact points on the circuit board. Use your hand to hold so you dont strain the connection and bend the 2 metal contactors for battery nearer by 1/8th inch each (this will make better contact with battery after reassembly). Reassemble in reverse order. Enjoy.

That seems to be a common thing Amongst Thieves is to steal the remote. Also on the wall button on the inside of the garage you may have a switch that says honor off as a picture of a lock. You can always flip that switch to lock and that will give you a piece of mind as well. But clearing the memory out on the opener will definitely take care of that stolen remote.

I have the left garage door programmed to the left button, and the right garage door programmed to the right garage door. I would try it again. When the LED on the opener goes solid red (no flashing) press in and out on the remote a few more times.
If no luck, just for giggles, replace the battery. Remotes will seem to be powered, but produce a weak signal. When you first pressed the remote it may had enough signal to tell the opener to raise the door.
