    Story :-
I am a recent college graduate who works as a self-employed artisan creating hand-crafted beads. I have been supporting my parents, especially my father who has a heart condition and has had several hospitalizations. Despite having a well-paying job, my older brother refuses to contribute to the family's finances or help out in any way. Recently, my father suffered a cardiac arrest and I was the one who had to save his life. My mother reached out to my older brother for help with the hospital bill, but he refused and claimed to be broke. Two weeks later, my brother announced that he was getting married without prior notice or preparations. My parents and I were disappointed and confronted him about his irresponsible behavior, lack of commitment to the family, and insensitivity towards our father's recent health crisis. My brother did not show any remorse or acknowledgement of his actions.

Not as dumb as OP herself who is the real loser idiot in the story. The brother Nathan is a scumbag and what does OP do?

OP’s big mistake was giving her brother her credit card. She could have paid the hospital directly. I also question that the hospital would refuse a life saving surgery. I also wonder why the hospital staff didn’t report Nathan for abuse when they saw the bruises on his wife’s body which surely led to the miscarriage. For that matter, why didn’t his wife press charges? The person I’m most disgusted with in this story is OP’s mother for bailing her son out of jail. She knew how dangerous he was and should have left him to serve his time. I’m glad OP found a nice man to marry. Hopefully, she has learned her lesson about the foolishness of giving her credit card over to someone else.

OP is very selfish. She could have killed her SIL with her actions. Ya she paid for the surgery, but then set her up to get beaten again. Yes, the brother is a monster, but his sister also horrid. IP doesn't know where his abusive streak came from, but it their mother seems to have inabled his shitty behavior and her father didn't step in a put his foot down. Honestly the whole family is a mess. I really feel for the SIL and her family.

    • @GrifoStelle
      @GrifoStelle ปีที่แล้ว +2

      OP is horrible.
And op tried to convince sil *not to leave* after the beating-induced miscarriage.
I know a lot of things can spontaneously end a pregnancy early on up to and including a mom saying "I can't pay the 17k hospital bill to give birth" and ending it early.
But this specific pregnancy ended because she was beaten so savagely that brother kicked/punched through 7 layers of muscle in the abdominal wall to crush the womb that is nested not in the stomach like kids think, but in the cradle of the hip.
The brother beat an actual life out of the sil and OP tried to convince her not to leave him. Despite having been fully abandoned after exhausting all of her savings to support her abuser.
Let's not mention that sil, as wife had rights to half of that property unless there was a prenup.
      So to sum up Op:
A Tried to convince a recently hospitalized, still recovering abuse victim not to leave her abuser because "family shame".
      B. Robbed the couple.
      C. Did not warn sil before abuser returned.
      D. Sent abuser a picture of her profits while he was in the middle of an attack on the recovering victim.
      E. Moved out of the house to protect herself when brother was coming back. (Because she was warned and knew he was dangerous)
      F. Did not share the profits with the sil after doubling all of her money including from the hospital (if memory serves) with the sale of marital assets.
      G. Now enjoys poking an extremely violent man because she's following her cultural traditions when he didn't.
When dad passes there will be no one left to protect mom. Since hospitals apparently do not report abuse, he will profit.

Mr Reddito says Nathan was an absolute disaster.
Most of this story was an absolute disaster.
OP was so angry, that in getting her revenge on her brother, she never even considered the brothers' wife. A woman nearly died, because of OP taking all of his expensive belongings. It sounds like she has no regrets about this woman being harmed, because OP took Nathans belongings.
The mother fought to get her monster of a son out of jail and free of charges, after he thrashed a woman. And, this after he made sure to terminate his unborn child (OPs' moms' grandchild). And, then brought him back into their home, with a frail husband?
The parents' of OPs' SIL? They thought Nathan would repay all of his wifes' medical bills? They let this monster off of the charges, for a pipe-dream.
And, OPs' dad? If Nathan was giving 1/2 his (small/limited) salary to the family, how would Nathan be able to pay back his ex-inlaws? Did the dad even consider adding into his terms, that Nathan also had to honor his promise to the ex-inlaws, as well?
And, did anyone set out stipulations that Nathan needed to go for Anger Management Counselling?
I really hope that Nathan smartened up, keeping his temper in check; that the parents remained safe; that the ex-wife healed well and is safe/happy again; and, that OP smartened up and learned a lesson here, too.
What kind of backwards country was this in, where women were so badly harmed and treated with so little respect/consideration?

Op got hers and ran only to return to enjoy some humiliation once in a while. No concern for the woman mutilated because she didn't bother to warn sil that she'd robbed the couple's house after sil's escape.

Thank you for your well written, commentary that is thoughtful and informative. My opinions are similar to yours, while differing somewhat, especially regarding the stipulations Nathan agreed to in order to move back home. The 50% of his salary that he agreed to give to his father is Nathan’s financial contribution towards household expenses. It is not for restitution.
Repayment of any money Nathan borrowed from his in-laws, needs to be negotiated between Nathan and his in-laws. It is nobody else’s responsibility to ensure that Nathan pays off all of his debts. If he’s only able to secure employment paying meager wages, Nathan can join the millions of Americans working two or three jobs at a time to make ends meet. But I digress.

The hospital in the story really disgust me. They had a dying woman right I'm front of them and they weren't going to do anything until they had some money. So OP knows he's an abuser and allowed his wife to be abused again knowing he would've assumed the wife stole his stuff

OP’s brother is exactly like my brother except for the domestic violence and OP’s mother is exactly like my mother. A mother who will never give up on her son, no matter how horrible he is to her and everyone else around him. His greed and selfishness has no limits but whenever he needs help, he comes running and expecting help. I really hate the fact that because I help my mom, I indirectly help him. I just want him to understand the basic concept that if you want help, you also have to help others.

I cry BS, life saving surgery is never refused. Now a lung transplant or heart transplant might not be done if there is no insurance. However in the state I live, the patient would be helped to apply for Medicaid or Medicare depending on age and health. Care is given in concert with the health coverage in that state.

I assume this is set in a country where extended family is important. That would explain why Nathan had to obey the conditions set at the end. OP was crazy to let Nathan have her credit card at all. She could have paid the hospital bill herself. All the doctor wanted was the cash. I do like her revenge, however.

    * If in the US why didn’t they transfer her to a hospital that could do the procedure?
*Why did she not have Medicaid or whatever state they were in in’s.
    * Why did she not give the hospital her card info directly
    * Why did she not cancel the card and file what he wasn’t supposed to spend as theft.
    * why did she keep all the money from what she got since it was double?
*Why did she not give the SIL half?
    * The mother is the reason he is like this
*OP tried to talk the SIL in to staying
*Its not up to the parents whether charges are pressed
*With all the witnesses and physical proof they may not have even needed the ex wife to press charges.

I had a relative who was like OP's brother (though not quite THAT awful). When I was a naive seventeen-year-old, I loaned him the contents of my savings account, which was a lot of money to me. Of course I never saw a penny of it again as it went down his throat in the form of booze, and he couldn't be bothered to work. However, I'm proud to say that's the last time I gave that good-for-nothing man a penny.
Sadly, he could pretend to be very charming, and a lot of other people funded his lifestyle for far too long. He wore out his wife, who had to support them working menial jobs for many years, until she died. Then alcoholism took his life.
Still, Nathan surpasses my distant relative in dastardliness.
