    Story 1, NTA!! That's NOT a mother that's a selfish entitled egg donor. All she cared about was money , herself and what she wanted. She's beyond vile to do all that to op's wife. I wouldn't be surprised if she got mad at her daughter for helping Op's wife not lose her scholarship. She deserves NOTHING from op same with the rest of her kids. She probably thought her threat would work and is upset that op won't marry who she wants. To interfere like that says that she's willing to do ANYTHING to get op to leave his wife. Not surprised that she expected to get money from op and wife to get nothing. That's a narcissist for you and she's especially beyond vile for actually assaulting op because she wasn't getting anything. When someone leaves a horrible person like THAT it's definitely for the best. Op should have pressed charges after the second assault. The narcissist egg donor is beyond disgusting and pathetic.

    You are right Mr. Reiddito. This was a terribly sad story knowing OP is no longer with us and his heartless mother only thought of money when her son was dying. I 10000% back OP on his decisions and hope his remaining time here on Earth was the absolute best with his wife, siblings, and friends. Also my condolences to those that lost OP, at least the mom didn't succeed in changing his will and robbing OP's wife and siblings. I can only hope the siblings keep the mom at arm's length as her 'love' is contingent on the amount of money they give her. In the end, the mom deserves to be left all alone as she valued money over OP's life. A truly loving family member would trade their inheritance in a heartbeat if it meant their loved one would live on, but clearly, the mom didn't love OP as a mother should. I wish that was not the case because OP should have had all the love and support in his dying days. I also hope the mom realizes her mistake in putting such a value on money, but that will be too late for OP. Still, even without his mother's support, I hope OP found peace in the end surrounded by loved ones. Rest in peace OP.

      Yes, my first thought was "Why didn't he press charges?" But then, I suspect being sick & dying means you can decide you don't want to spend your energy on that. Plus Asian background, it's socially/ emotionally harder to go against your parents, too.
      If I were OP I would be nasty enough not to leave her nothing, but leave her a small amount ($10K out of $15+ million) or something that would have sentimental but not dollar value.....maybe all my school reports up to the end of high school, or some small gift she gave me that I'd kept. A blown up picture of me as a kid, perhaps. Just to pour salt into the wound of not getting what she wants. Also then she can't complain she didn't get anything from her son. In my head I'm petty like that even if I don't usually act on those impulses.

    This is why is extremely important to have a complete full, complete and in depth discussion with a lawyer about a will. About whats legal and not legal in your state. Different states have different laws, better safe than sorry. So many people immediately jump to that $1 thing, but it may take a little more that that. And for pity's sake, make sure you keep it updated.
    In NY state at the time of my dad's death my 1/2 sister tried to play dirty and contest dad's will. But the lawyer that my parent's had was young but he was highly intelligent and extremely knowledgeable of the law. Dad had planned to leave his daughter that $1 thing in his will because of her past actions. The lawyer advised him to leave her $500. When dad asked about leaving her just the $1, lawyer said, to leave her $500 would be much better if she tried to pull anything crappy. They had went to the lawyer to do up wills in 92. They both died in 94. The year that dad was killed mom had died only seven months before him, 2 months after they got legally married. There were four of us kids, my two older half-brothers were moms from a previous marriage and my half-sister was dad's from a previous marriage. My 1/2 sister thought she had it made! When Mom and Dad first had their Wills done they had owned three houses. Later after mom found out she was terminal she and Dad started getting everything in order. They sold my grandfather's old house to my oldest 1/2 brother, another house they sold outright to strangers so they only had 1 house left. They had updated their wills each time 1 of the houses sold. My 1/2 sister was rubbing her hands together at the thought of what she would be getting. She did get money from the state of FL for the vehicle accident that killed dad but also found out she was only getting $500 from the estate. Boy was she pissed. She got her lawyer to contest the will. My nephew was the executor of dads will, he called to let me know what she was doing. I called mom and dad's lawyer myself, he had been my lawyer for previous accident I had back in 75, they both liked him and they decided to use him as a lawyer too. That's probably why he was so candid with me. He told me she really didn't have a leg to stand on because of the way the will had been written up. But that she could drag it out for maybe year and make it a PITA until it was over. He said that she was contesting the will as she was the only legal offspring of dad's. I asked what would happen if there was another legal child, he said it would definitely throw a monkey wrench into her plans. So I told the lawyer to send her lawyer a letter telling her to back off and drop her plans or I would take her to court and not only take the money from Florida that she got but the rest of it too. He asked, "Are you telling me that you were a legal child of your father"? I told him yes and that I was also the 'only' child of both mom and dad. He got all excited and asked if I would be willing to have a DNA test done? Told him I sure was. He got to laughing like a fiend and stated, boy this is a game changer! He said he would send the letter and let me know as soon as he heard anything back. About a week and a half after that my nephew called and told me that he had just got off the phone with the lawyer and had been told that because of me my 1/2 sister had dropped everything, that my nephew and 1/2 brothers owed me a big thank you. He then asked, "What did you do"? When I explained he was shocked and asked me if I was sure. I told him yes that there had only been three people who knew who my real father was, mom, dad and me. He got laughing. We talked for a few more minutes and then he said he was going to call my two brothers. I didn't even get off the phone for 3 minutes and the lawyer called letting me know that it was done and there would be no wasted time to settle the estate.

    I hope that OP found peace in his final weeks of life. It's such a horrible conclusion to their life. The mother lost any chance of a final farewell to her son and let greed overtake her. She found herself behind bars for her behavior and the lawyer lost his license. He should have lost a lot more but with that now on his record he will never be able to practice law again. He'll have to get a regular 9 to 5 job. He'll probably blame OP or he'll blame the mother but in the end it was his own choice and fault that made him lose his license.
    My condolences ultimately go to OP and his family because of the loss they have lost in this whole ordeal. It does sound like OP was a kind soul and caring. It was only due to his mother's behavior that she was cut out of the will and with that case in her file, if she ever tried to contest the will she'd likely lose without so much as a passing glance from the judge due to her prior behaviors.

In a lot of jurisdictions the spouse is first on the inheritance list if you don't have a will, so it seemed strange to me that OP thought his wife would be disinherited if the will went through & wife disputed it in court. I suspect the will switcheroo ploy was based on OP being too sick to read what the lawyer had drafted as he signed the will & wife would have had to argue mental incompetency to have it overturned. That's why OP's ploy of pretending it was his last days worked to catch the fraudsters.

    I just saw this video and my heart is breaking even in the end OP loved his wife so much he made sure to keep his mother from hurting her more. If OPs wife ever reads these i hope she knows are hearts and prayers are with her.

    Heck no OP NTA and leave her a dollar so she can't attempt to contest the will.

    • @calliew311
      @calliew311 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's actually a bad idea because if you do that, you are saying they deserve to be in the will, even for 1 dollar. Then she would be able to contest it from a more valid place. You can look it up on YT too, many estate attorneys say do not leave anything to someone you want left out of the will. If anything, you can put them in it and leave them nothing and explain WHY you are leaving them nothing. That way, it's pretty much impossible to contest.

    Sad story, but OP did the right thing despite all the cruelty his mother showed over & over again. I Pray you rest in peace. Praying for your wife, the love of your life, and your siblings to find comfort once you're gone. If possible, can your wife give an UPDATE on her status in the future cause I'm sure this is not the Last of your mother's cruelty...
    May GOD Bless ALL of you 🙏🏽

    OP was so blessed to have his wife by his side. My sympathies to her for her loss. Op should have pressed charges against him mom the first time she assaulted him. He didn't need that kind of stress and drama in his final days. I am so glad that his sister found out about the planned theft before they could get away with it.

    Have found getting that news focuses you really quickly on what's important and additionally it does seem to be fairly common to accept the news and not freak out.
    2020 lost my job after almost 28 years with the same company as a truck driver due to the beer bug ( while an essential job with an industry not so essential) and after 7 months of unemployment got a new job just before my 59th birthday but the job was really kicking my butt but simply chalked it up to not being the hard charging young stud I was almost 30 years earlier and having sat on my butt for the better part of the previous year. One month in I wake in the early morning hours and realized whatever it was it wasn't the job as I shouldn't be having issues lying in bed the same I was getting hustling on the job and something was wrong. My beloved wife had died suddenly 7 years earlier and being 9 years older than her I had pondered if such a situation arose would I call for help or pick a comfortable spot on the couch and wait to see my wife again. As I sat there with the phone in hand deciding it wasn't a vision or her voice but the thought of "you show up here before you're supposed to and I'm going to smack you". With that I dialed EMS as that was exactly the kind of thing my beloved would chide me with if she thought her hubby was about to do something self extinguishingly stupid.
    Condensing things a bit it was discovered some time anywhere from 7 months to just over a year after my wife's death I suffered a fairly major silent heart attack and had heart failure from running on the damaged ticker the last 6 years. I was given 50 50 odds of making it another 5 years. We had no kids so I've distributed a few items to friends and family and let it be known to next of kin to bring in someone familiar with pop culture to handle mine and my late wife's accumulated nerddoms and since I know I'm going to catch it for putting my tomboy wife in the interview dress when I see her again I've let it be known put me in my Starfleet finest with a phaser in my hand ( lived my life geek I'm going out geek).
    In the time I've got left I've made my peace with things and handled the news pretty good and actually had one of the nurses say for someone that just got that news you're dealing with it pretty good and I just told her always been the class clown type, not much I can do about it anyway so I'll meet death like an old friend with a smile on my face and a fart joke on my lips.
    If I get the 5 years or more that's great as I get more time with my family and friends, maybe knock out a few budget bucket list items but if the good Lord decides He can't be without my presence on high a second longer well I've got a good idea where I'm going and quite a few people, one in particular I'm not going to mind seeing again.
    Strangest thing I've noticed these last couple of years is that on those times I've cried over my situation it's not been woe is me I'm going to die but more over the having to leave ( at least temporarily) those I love behind, of not being there to see nieces and nephews at certain milestones, hanging with friends that have been part of my life all these years and such.

      I am so sorry for your loss. And I belive that your wife was with you when you sat on the couch. True love conquers anything, and she will meet you when your time is coming. I dont want to sound like some new age nut, but I think that your heart was broken both in spirit and physically the day she passed. I'm happily married since 33 years and I deeply love my husband, I can't imagine living without him. My greatest fear now when we are a little bit older is that he will die before me.
      Take care of yourself, Hugs from Sweden 🇸🇪

      @garysprandel1817 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @NickanM thank you. Nothing new age about it as broken heart syndrome is a confirmed phenomenon with the sudden stress and grief and I'm absolutely certain my going from about half a pack of Newports a day to a close to 2-2.5 pack a day for about a month after didn't help things. I was close to those couples you hear of passing in short order of each other but apparently just too damn stubborn to die.

      My little sister jumped in front of a train 2 years ago, she was our baby sister, I am 52 but she was only 37. What I have learned is that you never "get over" the loss of a loved one. You learn to live with the scars. My health dived after that, I got asthma (!) Not from anxiety, it is a physical one. I think that it is a reaction from my sisters death.
      I stopped smoking 15 years ago, but I smoked like a chimney the first year after my sisters death, but I dont connect the asthma with it. The timeline doesn't fit. Like 2 packs a day. Stress smoking is a thing. I have stopped again, but it wasn't easy psychologically.

    I don't understand why no one called the police and filed charges against mother for bashing her dying and ill son in the head with a heavy wooden object. I know Asian cultures have a different attitude of a supposed respect to one's elders, but surely attempted murder would be an exception? Then again, shortly later, she further attacks you in a public restaurant, and beats you to unconsciousness. Then again you drop the charges? Then further she tries defrauding the will with your attorney, and screwing with your wife's inheritance. Then finally you press charges! (Perhaps if mother had been charged for previous violence's the last defrauding attempt would not have happened? I guess as a westerner, I will never understand! Coming from a European heritage, I too have a respect for elders, but there is a limit and accountability! Respect should be earned and not blindly given!)
    I hope this woman's afterlife one day winds up in a truly hot and horrible place, and the devil pays her back for all her treatments of her son! My condolences to the family for their loss!

    This has had to be one of the saddest stories you have ever brought to your audience. I sincerely hope that man did pass in peace and is now residing in a heavenly place that he truly deserves. His Mother was a horrible grasping woman who did not deserve his attention at anytime because of her greedy ways. May you never have another sad story like this again. Thank you for bringing this to us, I truly never believed there were horrible, horrible people on this Earth.

    I have Multiple sclerosis it runs in my family on both sides. my cousin who is younger than me has the worst of the MS he is in the nursing home unable to speak or feed himself it wont be long. Me I was diagnosed with relapsing and remitting multiple sclerosis, its not as bad as my what my cousin has. But 4 months ago I started getting worse now have been changed to progressive relapsing and remitting multiple sclerosis. When I did my will my parents felt entitled to everything but I left everything to my husband and sons . parents aren't happy but my husband and children come 1st. I feel for OP and his wife he should have charged her the 1st time but at least she was caught before she could screw his wife over. I feel sorry for the couple because instead of getting to spend time quality time together they had to put up with the moms bs. OP rip and love and many hugs to you and your wife and siblings.

    As a mother nothing makes me more irritated than hearing a mother is owed something "because, after all she is your mother". At most she's owed for giving birth to you is a mother's day card.
    Everything else is what she earned by the quality of care and the sincere love she gave to you.
