Looks like the designer used to pull the wings off of flies as a kid, lol. I wonder if we will see them at a Goodwood Revival some time in the near future.
Yes, these two Renaults were build to chase speed records. On April 4 and 5 1934 for instance, the 8-cylinder Renault Nervasport car and its drivers raced non-stop on the Montlhéry circuit. After 48 hours 3 minutes and 14 seconds, the car crossed the finish line having broken nine international records and three world records, including one historic record: 8,037 km in 48 hours, an average of 167.445 km/h ! 😊
Renault motor company don't look as if they came far ! Because the Renault Alliance that we had in the late 80's wasn't much faster or better looking !
@@hu3raum Describing these cars as 'hot rods' is either a very idiosyncratic use of the term or shows a rather surprising misunderstanding of what a hot rod actually is. I had assumed they were recreations based on the designs of the originals or do they make use of original Renault components?
@@hu3raum If I had watched the video to the end before commenting I would have seen the Renault chassis plate on the 6 cyl car so I guess they were made up with some original parts. Good to see Mark in the Darracq and Duncan in 'The Beast of Turin' though
@hu3raum The obvious thing on those two blue very French vintage racing cars that the driver was enclosed and one of them did 168kph in his magnificent vintage racing car l would never do even 160kph in that car brave men back when these cars raced

The 1926 Renault 40 CV des Records sports a 9-Liter inline-six engine, whereas the 1934 Renault Nervasport des Records is powered by a 4.8 Liter inline-eight engine.
It's a bit of a stretch calling them "Hot Rods" Specials? Yes, without doubt, but please, have a little respect for the well defined class of car that we know & love that are Hot Rods.
Hey, at least they weren't painted like the rainbow and they didn't look embarrassing like if they had been part of an olympic event. The workmanship that has gone into these is fantastic. Well done!
You are barking up the wrong tree here - the terminology "hot rod" is even used by Renault itself on their official "the originals Renault" webpage... e.g. check out the 1934 Renault Nervasport des Records. Renault portrays this one-off car as "one crazy hot rod".
Thank you! ... and these cars have also made history and are part of the Renault DNA somewhere. I find it quite exciting to be able to experience such cars.
The Vintage Revival Montlhéry is no race but a celebration of motorsport history and motoring pre WW2. These two Renault for instance are unique in design and wrote motoring history too by e.g. setting speed records... that's the exciting bit... together with the sound from their amazing engines, of course ! 😊
@@blacksquirrel4008 the engine design of the 40 CV dated back to 1908, when it started at 7.6 liter inline 6 , from 1921 on it was opened up to 9.4 liters 120 bhp at 2.300 rpm topspeed of this aerodynamic version nearly 208 kmh.. I'm sorry i don't have knowledge ov French language, i have no idea what I'm supposed to be watching here i just don't understand non of the engine's sound like there running correctly or is it there not driven properly there is no enthusiasm to them, confused is how i feel
Aircraft engines are designed to be under load and swinging a huge propeller so they run smooth. When you run a big airplane engine with no load, it will always seem rough and seem to be running poorly. I tried a buggy with an out of hours 6 cylinder continental (IO-520), which went well when driving but would not idle and was hard to get moving, even with a 25kh flywheel. The fact these run and drive at all is a great achievement.
2 of the coolest cars I have ever seen. Thanks for the video!
Glad you liked it! 😊
Bravo et merci
Merci ! 😊
there's nothing to say but pre WW2 sportscars and pilots had a different class than the DinkyToys that make up the actual F1 scene
Poor performance also.
Bien plus ancien que le mouvement hot road des années 50.
La, on parle d'écurie constructeur d'avant guerre pour faire du record!
Wonderful, and absolutely Hot Rods in the spirit of anything ever raced at Bonneville.
Thank you for your feedback ! 😊
Aircraft engines were hotrod before everything else, right out of the factory! Using them in cars was only natural!
Looks like the designer used to pull the wings off of flies as a kid, lol. I wonder if we will see them at a Goodwood Revival some time in the near future.
Really interesting cars! I don't see where they held any FIA world speed records, did they hold time-distance records?

somebody should anthromorphize this into a story of French twin Brothers racing over the Alps while being chased by an angry beast from Turin.

It is the first car built by Louis Renault in 1899. The "Renault Type A"

I am impressed obviously French and of course in nice rhe French when it comes to automobiles they definitely to things differently

@hu3raum cool thank you very much for replying have a great Thanksgiving have a great week
Lucky there were no other cars at that meeting.
My first thought was why bring a tractor to a car meet?

Where they actually racing or just showboating? Because this was about as exciting as watching grass grow or paint dry.
