    My favorite scene is when Frazier is complaining to his dad about Eddie (the dog) and the dad says "just ignore him". Frazier says "I'm trying dad" and the dad says "I'm not talking to you, I'm talking to the dog". Classic!

    I had a counselor who saw both me and my boyfriend separately. My bf was diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder but the counselor liked him better. When I tried to explain his abusive behavior, she said that didn't sound like him and that I had to "grow a thicker skin."
    I quit seeing her after she started divulging personal information about other clients. She repeatedly called them "tiresome." I still wonder if she complained about me to other clients as well. Like a parent who chooses favourites

    • @LauraGardnerYoga
      @LauraGardnerYoga 4 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Wow, that's so unprofessional! And if they found their clients tiresome I don't think they have any business being a counsellor.

    • @legzfalloffgirl5148
      @legzfalloffgirl5148 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I couldn't get two words in with her, she talked SO much! I found out later I could report it to a senior counselor, so that's good. But she was working with 2 different people who had repeated suicide attempts. She said she hated it because "they've become tiresome... they're just... they're tiresome."

      Some people should not be therapists. My sister-in-law went to a therapist for post partum issues a few months ago. Naturally my sis-in-law went into the office wearing a mask because of the pandemic. When the therapist saw she was wearing a mask, she said “oh god, you’re not going to freak out if I don’t wear one, are you?” Mask/anti-mask aside, i thought her asking my sis-in-law if she was going to “freak out” seemed really unprofessional to me. Sorry that happened to you!

    As someone who watched frasier growing up and still puts on the reruns all the time as my chill show in the background, this warms my heart sooooo much! i've always searched for psychology related papers, theories on frasier and i was so excited to start watching this and get your perspective as a psychologist on the characters. IF WE'RE RECOMMENDING OTHER NON- RELATED SHOWS FOR YOU TO POTENTIALLY REACT TO, i would love to see your perspective on THE SOCIETY ( *currently it only has one season on NETFLIX and it looks like it was cancelled ) specifically the relationship between Campbell Eliot & Elle Tomkins, I don't want to give too many spoilers away but one of the attachment styles or diagnoses that you see all the time on the internet being thrown around is given to the character of Campbell. It would be interesting to see if your thinking from a psychologist's POV would line up with what the show is presenting. I've always thought that Campbell was more on the Antisocial Disorder spectrum vs what the show presents.
    ANOTHER SHOW, that i would love to see you potentially react to is YOU ( specifically the SECOND SEASON ) regarding the characters of Forty & Love Quinn who are twins and defined as "co-dependent" though we all know you would label them as dependent. Many people would probably want you to react to YOU's title character joe goldberg but seeing as the quinn twins are major characters in the second season , it might be easier to do and i've always found them more complex and interesting given there's not as much data on them. Thanks so much for all you do. Your videos have been such a light in this dark time and have really made my quarantine bearable. Always insightful videos. sorry for writing a novel lol.

    This is pretty cool!
    And this is a random suggestion, going with the theme of fictional shows/sitcoms, would it be possible to do the episode of Friends when Phoebe dates the therapist? Through the episode he “shrinks” all the characters and then by the end of the episode he gets mad at their dynamic. Just curious about your analysis of him and the Friends themselves!

    I LOVE Frazier and thought of him right away once I found your amazing channel :) I never thought you were modeling your podcast/TH-cam off of a sitcom character though. I can’t believe people thought that. I’m sure people make the comparisons though because there aren’t many sitcom plots based in Seattle and his character has a related career. You’re also both kind, funny, and play music!

    Back in 1970, I knew a psychiatrist in San Francisco who had a radio job much like the one depicted on Frasier. I doubt the guy ever considered his liability orv any ethical concerns whatsoever! My husband at the time was a psychiatrist in the area--it was a pretty wild scene. One psychiatrist (an M.D. like the rest) had an all-sex-issues radio show, with a big dab of Timothy Leary psychedelics thrown in. These were the Esalen days...with people going to live
    In Alaska for the adventure of it. We went up Oregon, for the mountains and mushrooms. It was also the era of...Ok, enough nostalgia. Point us, the Frazier character was based on a couple of real psychiatrists. I couldn't watch it early on, but later became a huge fan. Of Niles.

    There is a great scene in one of the first season episodes. Martin brings his favorite old, beat up recliner into his son’s condo. Frasier thinks it’s an eyesore and has it taken away without telling his father. Martin has a fantastic monologue about what the chair means to him. A lot of special events happened in his life over the last 30 + years He wants the chair that he was sitting in when the his family watched the moon landing. He was sitting on it when he found out that he was going to be a grandfather. Lots of memories. Frasier somehow manages to locate the piece of furniture and it’s returned to Martin.It’s a metaphor for him and how he and Frasier are trying to adjust to being together again.

    YES x 1000 how am I only seeing this now?!!! Frasier is one of my all-time favorites and Dr. Honda you are one of my favorites now as well. This is incredible. I haven’t started watching yet so maybe you can “hear” the excitement from me 😄

    Frasier was so well established as Frasier that it ruined his career by any other name.

    Random bit, when he was on the phone at the start of every show, he was always actually talking to someone famous. Jay Leno, McCaulay Culkin, Reba McIntyre, Patty Hearst, Tommy Hilfiger, Carly Simon, Cindy Crawford, Stephen King, Melissa Etheridge, Eddie Van Halen, there were 137 in total.

    Been away for a bit and now I cannot find Frasier # 2 Anyone know if our Doc continued on with Frasier??

    Fraiser works as a sitcom because it deals with the age old question of wisdom vs intellectgence, the example being frasier and his dad.

    I loved Fraiser, funny but realistic and honest in his responses.
    Excellent review Dr Honda.

    I've been meaning to suggest Frasier and it always slipped my mind so I'm glad I'm not the only "listener" who had the same idea! LOVE THIS!

    I honestly could watch you react to any show ( even ones like this which I would never see on my own ) and be interested.

    Just seeing the title made me laugh. I haven't even started the video and it's already my fav - I didn't even notice the similarities with Dr. Honda and "Dr. Crane".

    I loved this reaction and would like to see more of it. By the way, as I recall, between him and his brother there were some Darcy &Stacey vibes.

    This was cute but I don’t think I’d watch more reactions on this. I watched the show like 20 years ago so I don’t really remember a lot of it. Haven’t really had an urge to watch more. I’d be more interested in seeing other reality shows like Smothered or Sister Wives. Thanks Dr. Kirk! I hope you have an Amazing rest of your Weekend!

    Wow I'm excited about this! I love Frasier! Incidentally, Seattle is the only city I've visited in the US (including Redmond/Bellevue/Lake Sammamish area). I really liked it there.

    Omg! Sooo cool that you are reacting to Frasier! I love the reaction videos, but i have to admit i was getting a little bit bored watching the 90 days videos. Don't get me wrong i love them, but after video 64 i was ready for something new. So i love that you choose to react on Frasier!

    That is interesting Dr. Honda....in my marriage and family therapy courses in undergrad we were always discouraged from using self examples. Prof said it can take the session away from client and focus on therapist instead.
