the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

Verse 69: Then eat from all kinds of fruits and walk the ways of your Lord which are soft and easy for you. From their bellies comes a drink of various colours in which is healing for the people; indeed, in this is a sign to those who ponder.

As I wrote a few months back on a SciShow Video:
You forgot to mention my favorite fact about bees!
Every female bee can potentially lay eggs. Sometimes they even do so, that's a high offense against the entire colony. Their eggs will be killed off if found so they are mostly trying to hide them. There are special bees however that check on all the larvae and if one of them does not contain a certain type of pheromone that makes her smell like the other larvae this one is immediately killed and then there is almost and entire investigation process to find the worker who laid the egg. If this worker is found she is stung dead and removed from the hive to make sure the hive is not ruled by anarchy.
God you gotta love those bees.

+Finkel - Funk I did not know that! I just read up on this and apparently it only happens in queenless hives, after the queen's pheromones have dissipated. Not to mention all a laying worker's eggs would be male, and that would cause a hive to collapse. Cool extra fact!

    • @Finkelfunk
      @Finkelfunk 8 ปีที่แล้ว +41

It's Okay To Be Smart I thought it was in all hives, but that actually makes a lot of sense! Bees are such interesting creatures and we are just beginning to understand their hive hierarchy properly :)

+cloud4an because female bees all start with the same diet for three days. "Royal Jelly"
If the workers do not detect the pheromones of the queen in this window. (Maybe she died) Then they will create several emergency queens from the larvae that are still in this window.

Egg-laying bees are egg-laying bees, not such thing as a ‘Queen’ which is a big term reflecting superiority that only reflects me, and we superior beings (me & my pure protectors aka the alphas) would never ferce any unconsenting souls into a pointIs morteI worId, and bees are just programmed to do that wrong thing, as every other animaI, by the one that made this harribIe wrong worId! Well, in the commercial world of beekeeping which is where most of the honey we can buy is prodeced, the benefit to the bees are nice warm homes and free (for them) medical care - yes - there are many bee diseases and parasites. If you like honey, thank the bees and also the guys who work very hard for very little return.

This was very interesting. My dad is a beekeeper so I should show him this. He told me once that the queen has I believe it was 24-48 to mate with a drone. If this fails, she can become sterile. This is why weeks and weeks of rain can really hurt the chance of a new hive forming because it affects the potential queen's mating dance.
Also bees need a variety of flowers. Almond flowers are not good for bees since they can't make a lot of honey from them. They can get food, but once the flowers are gone, the bees starve.
However, since there is so much money to make in almonds, many beekeepers sacrifice a few hives for the money. Even though they know the hives will probably die since almond flowers provide very little good nutrition for bees.
But I say this only from what I heard from beekeepers, I am not one myself.

Queen bees go on what is called a "mating flight".... basically they get it on mid flight with other males to store their sperm (and the guys die on the act).... so if there is a lot of rain, then there is no "mating flight" done..

    • @CarolReidCA
      @CarolReidCA 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

You'd think they'd realize that the bees have higher pollenation rates for the trees if they have other types of pollen, from lower plants, like allyssum, marigolds & bushes.
If they're doing this, they are causing an balance that is resulting in lower pollination rates of their almond trees.
The hive will be healthier, stronger, and have higher pollenation rates, as well as larger reproduction rates, if they provide some variety. They could even plant sage on the edges of the orchards, toss in some allyssum, a few citrus tress & production, other factors being the same, will increase.
The USDA has info about this, so does the Farmer's Almanac. This has been known for many, many years, was tested, as some thought ut was just an "old wives tale"... Well, it was an old wive's tale, yet like many of those, it just so happens to be true.

Usually what happens in agricultural set ups is that mobile hives will be brought in to pollinate (and make honey). Otherwise, bees wouldnt be able to properly colonize in vast fiels of one or two plants since they would only have a short amt of time to visit all of the plants

I know it didn't go "exactly" like this, but I imagine the discovery of honey by bees when something like this:
bee #1 flies up to bee #2
Bee 1: Hey i found this sweet stuff in a flower today!
Bee 2: Oh yeah?! Can you show me where the flower is?
Bee 1: No... I don't dance, but I could throw the sweet stuff up into your mouth.
Bee 2: Ummmmm. Or you could just fly there and I can follow you?
Bee 1: No no. Trust me. This throw up thing will work. Come here...
Bee 2: Oh geez... i don't know about this, bee. Are you sure you just can't..... (gets interrupted by bee 1)
Bee 1: Past your mandibles! Past your gums! Look out stomach! Here it comes! BARF!!!
Bee 2: Oh... my... bee god... That is so good! Hey other bee! Get over here and let me throw up in your mouth!
Bee 3: Um... No. That's gross and I am not into.... (interrupted by bee 2)
    Bee 2: BARF!!!!!
Bee 3: Wow! That was good!
Bee 1: Hey, let me taste what you tasted. I have a theory.
    Bee 3: BARF!!!
Bee 1: How is this possible?! It's better after it's been thrown up! Girls, I think we're onto something here... Hey, you other bees! Come here and let me throw up in your mouth!
    And the rest is history...

Some clarifications from a beekeeper: Honey is not made from vomit. Anything that goes into a bees true stomach is used for energy, while honey nectar is stored in the honey crop, which is not a second stomach. Might sound like splitting hairs, but I would compare it more to a birds crop, or a chipmunks cheeks. Also, queens don’t go to another hive to mate. Rather, they fly to drone congregation areas, which are sites where queens and drones of many different hive gather in one area high in the air (roughly 15-100+ ft). They mate in these special gathering areas, and new queens and drones will continue to use the same places year after year. We don’t really know how they pick these sites.

As Sir Joe Hanson told every work is done by female bee, it is exactly told by God of whole universe 1450 years ago in Holy Book.
      Book Name: Holy Quran
      Chapter Name: Bee
      Chapter Number: 16
      Verse No: 68 & 69
Verse 68: And your Lord inspired the female bee; that makes home in the mountains, and in the trees and in the rooftops.
Verse 69: Then eat from all kinds of fruits and walk the ways of your Lord which are soft and easy for you. From their bellies comes a drink of various colours in which is healing for the people; indeed, in this is a sign to those who ponder.
Please read out this book which is for whole humanity, Please don’t ignore it, this book have main three subjects
      i.e. 1 Creator 2 Human 3 Universe

I was just relating to how this feels like watching PBS in my head but I kept thinking that while interesting, this could be a TH-cam video "based on a true story but with lots of untrue parts, like a story from a drunken man." But then when I saw that your affiliated with PBS I figured it had to be correct. Fascinating video
