As a Gen X guy, I love Living Colour. I was a teenager in high school when it was released. The song struck a chord with me way back then. A lot of their songs had deep messages.
This is one of their best songs. The vocals are top notch and the music is powerful. The lyrics take it to the next level. Solace Of You is another under the radar song by these guys
Thanks, JMBOY. I love Living Color so much. Was fortunate to see them up close in a small theater once in Portland and they were absolutely amazing. One of the most criminally underappreciated bands ever.
Living Colour’s first album Vivid was 1 of 4 breakthrough albums in 1988, when I opened a retail store selling CDs-which were fairly new at that time. The others were GNR-Appetite for Destruction; Joe Satriani Surfing With the Alien; and Melissa Etheridge self titled. All four still sound fresh, urgent, and interesting today. Thank you JM for tackling another one off Vivid. Great discussion. Right on.
Thanks for a great reaction man. This is why solving wage inequality is crucial so average folks can buy and maintain their homes and stay in their neighborhoods. Other tracks to try are Type, Postman, Bi, New Jack Theme, History Lesson-basically all their songs are bangers!! They are still touring, and are so good live!
I can relate to the message having lived in 4 states and 8 cities, 33 different locations seen many different situations with other people. Moved to Up-State N.Y. in 1985... Owned four houses, Lived in one, rented two out to weekly tourist that paid enough that I rented the 4th house to a family with two handicapped kids for only 10% of the other two places... I was so glad to help them for nearly 5 years before they moved. Now I own my 30 acres and nobody is around to bother me. Come for a visit anytime JM.
Nicely done, Great lyrics and vocal delivery. Seriously cool Classic Rock sound and feel with all the elements needed. I give it Thumbs Up and your analysis is on point, again.
Unfortunately, memories die with the rememberer. I am 74 and I struggle to leave memories and accumulated knowledge in my own blazed trail, but it's a battle. I get the disappointing sense that for the most part, nobody gives a damn.
Not really. He's referencing a fire because there was a time landlords would rent out properties lomg out of code, then burn them down for the insurance money. Lots of people died, many of them children.

And yet King's Xs' 'Out Of The Silent Planet' went largely unnoticed. Criminal.

Really glad you hit this one by them too, and loved your commentary on it. Agree 100%.

A crazy underrated band.

I DEMAND THAT THEY BE INDUCTED INTO THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME! FUCK THE POLITICS!✊🏿✊🏿
Gentrification has amplified like a runaway train since this song was written.....

They've been gentrifying Harlem and the Bronx for over 30 years now and we see the difference!
What's your favorite color!
Talk about rock/funk.
